- Best known for having initiated open source on Linux Kernel development and distribution He was honored (shared with Dr Shinya Yamanaka) with the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize by the Technology Academy Finland His interest began with the purchase of Commodore VIC 20 system and Sinclair QL, which he modified extensively the operating system He purchased a copy of Minix for $5000 and started modifying it for IBM PC 386, which resulted in the creation of Linux At the age of3. he was named as TR100 (Top 100 innovators of the world) by MIT Technology Review His personal mascot is a cute Penguin nick named Tux Torvalds describes himself as “A religious atheist”
