What is CrowdFunding?
It is an alternative method of accumulating funds. Traditionally people go to banks and get loans with high interest rates.
The definition of crowdfunding is “the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet”
Crowdfunding allows people to accumulate funds from the general public. The idea is to get small amounts of money from a large pool of people.
This is a great chance for businesses to showcase their business idea/product and projects to the entire world.
There are many platforms on which a business can do crowdfunding, typically crowdfunding uses an online platform.
There are many websites that allows you to present your project/product/idea.
Usually they would include an introduction of the project, short video clip, list of rewards/products and various images that will elaborate the details and progress
Although Crowdfunding seems like a simple idea to raise funds, it is not as easy as it seems.
This is not to say that we cant be successful, we just need to follow some general steps:
Have a compelling idea or message moving people emotionally is very important, we need to market our product/project so that many people can share the feelings about a cause or idea
It is important that we sell the idea and the meaning behind the idea and not the product. The focus should be on WHY and not WHAT we are trying to do with the funds
We need to link the people around us first. This means family and friends, then families of our friends and the friends of our friends’ family
There are many different models of crowdfunding.
For the purpose of my presentation, I will focus on four major models.
Donation Model, Pre-Order Model, Reward-Based Model and Loaning Model
Donation – basically asking for donations to raise fund for a project
Pre-Order – selling an idea that you have been working on and promising the funders a product once the product is launched
Reward-Based Model – giving something small reward (like a key chain or a mug) for their contribution
Loaning – instead of getting “free” money, it is basically getting a loan from an organization
