Research of how the target audience is met from 2x Front covers and 2x Contents pages.
This front cover applies to the target audience in a
variety of ways, one of which is the props used
within the shot of the assumed student. He is seen
to be holding a law book which is a popular
academic subject; this translates into a way to
attract people who share similar views, the students.
The fact that he is holding this book familiarises the
audience that he is a student and therefore he is like
them making the magazine relevant to them
particularly. In addition the masthead illustrates the
word ‘college’ immediately making the target
audience students as the stories inside the magazine
will only apply to them. This is an effective title as it
directly addresses the purpose of the magazine and
what the magazines contents will entail.
The use of extra stories on the cover page applies to
the target audience as they are things that the
students will be interested in, for example, ‘How to
make money on campus’ this means that the
students will maybe want to know how to achieve this by means of not breaking school laws and
also giving the students tips on how to make money in the future.
The colours of the magazine are very appealing because of the contrasting colours, students are
unlikely to want to look at colours that are too extravagant because they may feel like they are being
treated like they are not their age, also having over extravagant colours may make the magazine
less of a serious read as it could reference younger ages where looking at colours are entertaining.
The colour scheme is black and green, and it looks trendier with a more polished look.
The centre image applies to the target audience who are students as he is seemingly a student and
with him being the centre of the cover page, gives him a sense of importance; due to this it clearly
outlines the prospect of it being a student magazine. The clothes he is wearing are trendy and
appeal to what other people are wearing and could also give some students inspiration for fashion
and what they could wear.
The use of ‘Splat’ which is an example of onomatopoeia referencing to ‘paintballing’ which is a
popular activity within the youth and therefore If there are certain deals or places to go with
information about it, it would apply to the target audience of the students as they are likely to be
interested in paintballing. This is effective as the colours differentiate with the rest of the cover page
and stand out drawing the students eyes to that specific thing.

This magazine has a primary target audience of
those who are interested in sport, specifically,
American Football, and the secondary target
audience are the rest of the college. The
magazine may apply to the rest of the college as
there is a sense of pride in the school team,
meaning that other students and lecturers want
to be informed.
Firstly the centre picture is of a football player
whom the students can familiarise the magazine
with and see that the purpose is to show scores
and information about real pro football stats,
widening the target audience to those who are
generally interested in American Football not just
from a college team perspective.
You can assume that the target audience is
mainly male based upon the colours used on the
cover page which are blue and red, both
attracting colours as they stand out also making
the magazine look vibrant and an enjoyable read.
The tag that is seen on the left hand corner ‘Inside! Recruiting Reports’ can be seen to appeal to the
target audience by those who are interested in American football will also be interested in being
recruited for something that involves it. It also helps people academically with their school life if they
want to become involved in magazine industry.
The lure ‘Husker-Do’ is used as a marketing technique as it makes the reader want to read into the
article, the font is big and draws the reader’s eye. This story appeals to the target audience as the
players are seemingly from the college team and therefore would be interested in reading the
article. This is also a secondary lead as it is a sneak preview to the article within the magazine and
appeals to the target audience by the college uniform of the player.

The centre picture of this contents page applies to
target audiences as it is a group of girls who are
seemingly part of a sports team, the fact that this
magazine is likely to be part of a sport magazine, it
therefore applied well to the audiences. It also
shows the girls smiling showing that they are having
fun and that makes the sport magazine nice to read
and to look at.
There is a consistent colour scheme of white, black
and green by the page number. This is a sleek but
not over extensive look and applies to the target
audience of younger aged people, also people that
are part of a higher education of schooling, the
colours have to be more dull for students to take the
magazine seriously.
There are images relating to the college life, such as campus and a girl lying on books. This applies to
the target audience as the pictures are relating to the students. The girl laying on the books it a sign
of education as she is always with her books and loves to learn; therefore it applies to the target
audience as the students reading the books may be interested in the article.
There are page numbers under the pictures relating to what page the students need to go to to read
the article. Generally this is used in magazines to make life easier while the customer or consumer,
in this case, the student. This page number under the pictures applied to the target audience so that
they are able to go to the article that interests them the most.

This contents page has many features which apply to
the target audience which is students, likely to be for
school purposes. The two centre pictures displayed
apply to the audience as they are showing activities
that may be done in the school and therefore this may
interest the consumers of the magazine.
The tag ‘subscribe to teachers’ applies to the target
audience as this statement directly applies to the
students as they are being addressed to subscribe. This
is effective because it makes the students read
onwards if they are interested in the magazine, also it
shows them what they are missing out on.
The different featured articles are linked directly with
the pictures shown, for example number 14 ‘Money
doesn’t grow on trees’ is linked with the boy showing
price tags on branches. This is effective because it gives
the reader a higher insight to what they are read and makes them more intrigued with the article as
pictures add to the enjoyment of what they are reading.
The highlighted welcome applied to the students in the school magazine because the magazine is for
them and makes it emphasize their welcome.
The graphic features of the magazine are small children which may intrigue readers because they
could want to know what these kids are doing which could also interest them.
