Graphic Designer, a professional who creates designs using print, electronic, and film media, is a
career I wish to pursue for the good wages, social contacts and supporters, and artistic expression.
My career choice for my future is to be a Graphic designer. I have been interested in becoming a
graphic designer ever since I realized what a great opportunity it would be for me. I originally
wanted to be a Fine Artist when I won my first art competition in the first grade, but after a few
years I realized I had a bigger passion for graphic designing and that it was a better job for me.
Graphics designing requires perfection, which grabbed my interest. It will be challenging to
compete with other artists and to give people exactly what they want. I want to have a job in this
career because it is a challenging job that I enjoy doing, as well as be able to meet lots of people,
become a well known artist, and make lots of money. Being a graphic designer requires one to
come up with designs using tools like printers, computers, and other electronic devices or free
drawing or sketch something by hand using pencil and paper. All designs must be perfect and
precise to what the customer wants. Some designs require people to freehand and sketch things
too. Graphics designs are constantly becoming more advanced and is constantly needed. Graphics
designing is growing and is always in need of young people to become skilled to take over and allow

Graphic Design And Art And Design
Often times a painting has the same structure as a design. The details can be similar for both
Graphic Design and Fine Art. Paintings such as Son of Man by Magritte which has basics such
as shadow, highlight, simple composition, and a dull color palette. A design for Apple Laptops
was created of a decal of Son of Man. This design also had shadow, light, basic composition, and
an achromatic color palette. The structure is the same, but one is created digitally and one is a
painting. The processes can also be very similar. Many artists use technology in their artwork.
They use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, programs for designers and use it to create their
artwork. Artists such as Jeff Koons who manipulates images on Photoshop, prints it and paints
hyper realistic paintings from those images. The structure and process for art and design can be
very similar. Can an artist be a designer or vise versa? One argument that critics make is that
artists are just artists or that a designer is not an artist. However there are countless artists who are
designers and vise versa. One famous designer would be Eva Zeisel. Eva Zeisel is famous for
creating a body of dinner sets which she created after she was released in Russia. While
imprisoned, Zeisel found inspiration in the curves of her own body claiming it was the only art she
had. Afterwards she created "useful" art which was her groundbreaking design of minimalist
dinnerware, (Eva Zeisel, groundbreaking designer, dies). Her

Graphic design is a very competitive career, it takes skill, creativity, determination, and being able
to market yourself. To be a graphic designer one must be able to influence people's emotions with
just text and images. Being graphic designer takes more than just having a silly degree, you must
take risks and have the passion for art and design. Anyone can be a graphic designer but not
everyone can be a good one.
With graphic design being a highly competitive market, there are many things you need to be good

A graphic designer who can do a variety of jobs in the design world is in high demand and will
receive a higher salary. The graphic design market is highly competitive; many people will switch
careers after a few years in the industry.
Being a graphic designer means working with technology. Typically, a graphic designer will work
in a studio or and an office depending on if they work for an agency or as a freelance designer
(Occupational Outlook Handbook). Some designers may even work from home. Designers tend
to work with computers, printers, and paper. Depending on the project or client, designers may
be required to work long evenings and weekends to meet their deadline (Occupational Outlook
Handbook). Working as a designer can be very stressful. It is also difficult to find a job fresh out
of college. Many designers will work two jobs and do design in their spare time. Collaboration is
very important in the work environment, it can generate new ideas and cut the time spent on a
project in half. Working as a team for a project is a great source of inspiration, creativity, and
healthy competition (Cezzar, Juliette). Graphic design is a highly competitive career with trends
and technology changing every day. The expected growth is about as fast as the average, 5% from
2016 to 2026. The growth is different for each industry. Designers who work with newspapers,
periodicals, and books can expect a 22% decline versus designers who work with technology who

Graphic Design Portfolio
Our Graphic Design Portfolio is meant to not only help myself but other people who are looking
at my skill set. In order to show this, the project must contain artwork from each Adobe program
such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Animate. Photoshop can either show our abilities in
editing photographs, how we can create gifs or simply how we can use it to draw. Illustrator is
mostly about vector drawings and shows how we can use it to create 3D images or simple logo
designs. Indesign will show how well we can format, through creating simple menus or as
complex as creating magazines. Animate, on the other hand, will show how we can also create
moving images, short animations and can also be used to create gifs. Each piece of work will
reflect my artistic abilities, creativeness, art style as well as my strengths and weaknesses in each
program. Through this information employers, colleges and other companies will be able to see
where I am, skill–wise, and what I am capable of creating, and overall seeing...show more content...

Design has become one of my greatest passions in my life, one that I never grow tired of and
constantly wish to improve upon. This is why I chose to become a graphic design major, so that I

puzzle that when solved correctly can reach people like words could never do. I have known that I
would enter a creative field since a child, though it wasn't till recent years that my love of graphic

What Is Graphic Design?
What is graphic design? The term "graphic design" basically means the art and skill of combining
text and images to convey messages on everything and everywhere.2 The very first time the term
"graphic design" was used was during 1922 in a newspaper article. By the 1980s, the term was
widely used in newspapers, magazines and some publications even ran entire series of articles,
attempting to explain what it meant.2 This literature review will cover on the history of graphic
design, the impact of digital technology and how digital technology has made life easier.
So how did graphic design come about? It all started when Johann Gutenberg invented movable
type in 1455 (the 15th century). He invented it because of a reason: to be able to print books. 3
This invention of movable type has caused rapid changes in the world of graphic design. Up till
today, many fonts and typefaces that were created back in the 15th century are still being used
today. However, the term 'graphic design' originated in the early 20th century when designers started
to operate independently. Graphic design actually began when the 'design' of printed materials
developed into a practicable commercial activity separated from print.4 The birth of graphic design
as a career also began during the 20th century....show more content...

Analysis of Graphic Design
GRAPHIC DESIGN ISP INTRODUCTION Art is a form of expression that dates back to the
beginning of time. Since then it has evolved and changed to adapt to modern times. Whether that be
through a shift in style, in medium, or technology. Graphic design, contrary to popular belief,
actually began in 1922, to define graphic art across time. Since the introduction of the modern
computer and graphic design software, it has evolved into an n art style that is present everywhere in
the modern world. Graphic design has many different styles just as normal art does, ranging from the
minimalism of Apple, to the typographic nature of many modern advertisements. Graphic design
isn't just a form of art anymore, but it rather is a medium through which...show more content...
Lasko fans, and LA Lakers both have the same potential for superior logo quality, but because of
color selection, the LA Lakers hold more graphic quality in regards to their respective logos than
does Lasko fans... (Cohen "Evolution of NBA Team Logos",). Gradients, contrast and color are
the three most basic techniques used in graphic art, and can define a work as either superior, or
amateur. All three of these concepts work together to create the concept of "visual identity".
Visual identity is a term coined by Abduzeedo (world renown Brazilian graphic designer),
meaning simply the "definitive element within the design process used across all applications
and branding materials". As discussed above this could be as simple as the apple logo, or even as
complex as a stamp. Most large organizations have a visual identity, even the US Government
does. The visual identity of the US Government for example could be the American flag, or the
bald eagle, as this is present throughout their entire brand line. During 2008, President Obama used
the concept of the visual identity, but took it one step further and used the "verbal identity". He
associated the word "change" with his campaign so that this would become an integral part of it. By
utilizing the word change he essentially created a memorable center point for his campaign
messages by which people could remember and associate with him. (Abduzeedo "The Makery –
Visual Identity") A problem that many graphic artists

not know where the discipline is headed. The root of Graphic Design is communication of an idea
through art or graphics. And it has been in human history for the longest time, from cave drawings
to hieroglyphs and from physical prints to the digital media. It has become a well–established

They also feel that "Graphic Design fails to register as a necessary activity in the radar of key areas
of society and businesses." (Poynor). They say that since the development and sale of new
technology and new programs such as the Creative Suite, there would be no need for Graphic
designers as other people can do what Graphic Designers do for a living but for a cheaper cost.
Those who are in the industry are starting to doubt if the industry is still needed. But in actuality,
Graphic Designers are still considered as an important industry by society and as well as other
industries. Graphic Designers are very adaptable to their environment. And Graphic Designers are
trained to be problem solvers. It has some economic advantage, and can be recession–proof. Lastly
the graphic design industry is a business oriented creative industry.
Graphic Designers are adaptable to their ever changing environment. It seems as if it is natural for
Graphic Designers to be able to conform with the times. The industry is well accustomed and does
make use of technology. Technology will always develop and become better, and the same goes for
the industry. As technology advances, as new programs are made, Graphic Design conform with
these developments, creating new techniques and ways to be able to communicate an idea. Back
then designers would use the print media which are physical copies of the work made by hand,

Typography that's Cropped: Another trend that might just get carried from 2017 to 2018 is
cropped typography. This kind of typography will also require your creative thinking so you can
erase some parts of the letter but keep their readability intact. However, the great thing about it is
that it will look fantastic and cool if you're able to execute it properly.
Typography That's Chaotic: If you're feeling a little adventurous, you can also try your luck with the
chaotic typography that was one of the top trends this year. But remember that chaotic typographic
isn't about using random fonts and designs to produce something that looks and feels bad. If you
want to use this kind of typography for your business card printing, you can always do it by not
aligning the letters and doing something a little different.
Typography That's Unconventional: Finally, if you want to step out of your comfort zone and
experiment with something a little different, you can try out typography with a few real elements.
This is a new and modern concept where typography interacts with other elements such as humans,
animals or even plants. This type of typography looks best when it is on posters or bigger platforms
and can be used for advertisement purposes as well.

Graphic Design is a form of visual communication where one uses images, shapes, colors, and text
to convey ideas and concepts. The field of graphic design encompasses many different sub–sections
including web design and printmaking, however, the field of graphic design is not very heavy on
professional writing. Instead graphic design utilizes images to convey messages and concepts.
Throughout this essay I will explore the formatting styles, genres and uses of writing, and how
writing and rhetorical skills are translated into design skills. Formatting styles such as MLA, APA,

imperative within the field of graphic design. After conducting an...show more content...
The main genres of writing within the field include proposal writing and technical writing. Many
articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example,
the article "Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations," by a designer
called LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space,
implied texture, and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written
to help designers improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create
meaningful designs. Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an
understanding of ethos because their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the
graphic design field. Specifically, within LoungeKat's article, technical terminology is utilized to
develop that ethos as well as specific examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple
language rather than advanced language. Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense
of simplicity in their writing as well. I assume this is because the field is not heavy on writing or
research and instead it focuses on art and visual designs so there is no need to use such a formal
or advanced way of writing. In addition, credible sources such as peer journals are very important
in many fields of work because they can be trusted to provide reliable information. During the

Along with it being easy to master, graphic design can also supply a large amount of money. This
is because there are so many websites dedicated to it. As said before, putting designs on numerous
websites increases the chances that someone will buy them. Certain websites even have different
prices, which is actually a very good point. Some websites will sell designs for up to $30.00, while
some only $5.00 or $10.00 dollars. It is a statistical fact that most people will buy cheaper designs,
while some people still buying expensive ones. Either way, both websites will generate the same
amount of profit. To go along with this, average graphic designers in America today make over
$40,000 a year. That is a more than the average salary of an American today, just for doing barely
any work. In some cases, graphic designers can make over $60,000 a year, an outrageous salary for
doing barely any work. Graphic design is a very easy way to earn money, but it is also a great way to
save money. Most websites have services that give a rewards for posting designs. Posting designs
can usually make posters and t–shirt designs cheaper and easier to buy. Many websites similar to
Redbubble do this. To along with saving money, making custom designs can do this as well. It
would be a waste of money to buy an expensive poster or t–shirt design, when creating a custom one
is so easy. Lastly, learning graphic design gives many numerous and varied privileges. For

Graphic Design Disciplines
It did not require very much thought to narrow down the list of Graphic Design Disciplines. Of the
twelve types of disciplines discussed, I can see myself working in the fields of Brand and Identity
Design, Motion Graphics, and Advertising.
Brand and Identity Design is what most people think of when hearing the words "graphic design".
Admittedly, I assumed that the creation of logos, the look of products, websites, were the only
aspects of this field. So, those were the things I created in my leisurely time, or the things I was
required to produce in high school classes and competitions. I now know that those aspects only
comprise a small part of graphic design, and provides a miniscule, vague description of what
Brand Designers achieve. A Brand Designer is responsible for the overall representation of a
company, and must market a company's particular brand through the use of several mediums.
Those mediums include logos, web sites, apps, and so on. A consistence must exist in everything
produced for a certain company because the point/ of a brand is to label a company to they are
simple to identify, and companies cannot be easily labelled with ever–changing brands.
If I choose the Brand Design disciplines, I am considering working towards a job as a Senior
Graphic Designer. I would work closely with the marketing department of a company to help create
brand designs. It would be my responsibility to overlook the company's brand and ensure that works

What Is The Value Of Graphic Design? Essay
What is the value of graphic design?
Graphic Design's role in advertising is arguably a controversial one in regards to the morality and
principles that designers have to consider when generating work for companies and issues they find
have questionable ideologies. To a certain extent, graphic designers have to take into consideration
the ethical and moral implications any design brief may have and deliberate the monetary value
against their own moral standards. Taking this into consideration, the value ofgraphic design will be
reflected upon, concentrating on its value within the advertising industry whilst discussing relevant
examples of artists whose moral values have been called upon. The history of graphic design and its
origins will also be considered in order for the value of graphic design in advertising to be
thoroughly explored and developed. Philip B. Meggs said of graphic design: "As early as 1922 the
Massachusetts–based type designer, calligrapher, and book designer William Addison Dwiggins
coined the term graphic design." (Meggs, P.B., Purvis, A.W., 2006.) Commercial artists, those whose

Graphic Design Impact On Society
Graphic design and advertising has a positive impact on the world because it has improved our
society socially. Based on The Effect of computers in Graphic Design: Positive or Negative? by
Lillian Myers it is said that "Graphic Design plays a major role in modern life. It is a crucial
element in advertising and in conveying information quickly."(Lillian Myers). Artist and designers
use all their skills to find a way to express their thoughts, emotions and find a way to share their
thoughts with the world. Web Design has allowed us to receive these information all it takes is a

ads on T.V are there to lure people's attention. After a person's attention is grabbed, it gives that
person curiousity. This curiosity causes them to wonder and ask questions, which then leads to them
finding help with a certain company. As a result of just one poster or Advertisement it has influenced
people to wonder and communicate with the people surrounding them, they do this to receive the
answer to their question. Therefore, showing us that a poster or an ad can influence someone to talk
to somebody about the product. According to The Impact of Social Media on Advertising from

advantages as disadvantages. An advantage is that free–lancers have an opportunity that most other
graphic designers do not, and that is to make an incredible amount of money if they create an
extraordinary piece of art. They do not have to share their money with anyone if they make a good

one is holding them back from their possible success. They are in charge of their own reputation,
may it be good or bad (Gordon). A disadvantage is that there can be long stretches of time where
business cannot be found, and that can cause some free–lancers to have to work more than one job

than the insecurity of free–lance (Gordon). Whether working on one's own, or involved with a

Graphic design is an art that has undergone a lot of revolution in terms of both the historical
context and the relevance and significance of art in various aspects of life. Graphic design has one
of the longest histories, dating back to prehistoric and medieval era to the modern era of the
modernists. It is therefore easy to conclude that graphic design is as old as humanity. many graphic
designers have foreseen the this revolution , including legendary graphic designers such as Pablo

My Goals For Graphic Design
What I want to achieve during my lifetime is to become a graphic designer, and an actor. I do not
necessarily look at them as dreams, but as goals to achieve. One does not necessarily need an
education in acting, but for graphic design it is highly recommended. My aspirations have impacted
my life because it has led me to enroll in school, and achieve that career as a graphic designer.
Since, I was young I have had a passion for art and all its multi–facets. Animation and video games
have played big roles in my life because I have always been intrigued by the graphic detail that is
put into these creations. I feel sometimes, that this form of art is under appreciated because
people do not realize how much work goes into bringing an idea from a piece of paper to life on a

  • 1. Graphic Designer, a professional who creates designs using print, electronic, and film media, is a career I wish to pursue for the good wages, social contacts and supporters, and artistic expression. My career choice for my future is to be a Graphic designer. I have been interested in becoming a graphic designer ever since I realized what a great opportunity it would be for me. I originally wanted to be a Fine Artist when I won my first art competition in the first grade, but after a few years I realized I had a bigger passion for graphic designing and that it was a better job for me. Graphics designing requires perfection, which grabbed my interest. It will be challenging to compete with other artists and to give people exactly what they want. I want to have a job in this career because it is a challenging job that I enjoy doing, as well as be able to meet lots of people, become a well known artist, and make lots of money. Being a graphic designer requires one to come up with designs using tools like printers, computers, and other electronic devices or free drawing or sketch something by hand using pencil and paper. All designs must be perfect and precise to what the customer wants. Some designs require people to freehand and sketch things too. • 2. Graphic Design And Art And Design Often times a painting has the same structure as a design. The details can be similar for both Graphic Design and Fine Art. Paintings such as Son of Man by Magritte which has basics such as shadow, highlight, simple composition, and a dull color palette. A design for Apple Laptops was created of a decal of Son of Man. This design also had shadow, light, basic composition, and an achromatic color palette. The structure is the same, but one is created digitally and one is a painting. The processes can also be very similar. Many artists use technology in their artwork. They use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, programs for designers and use it to create their artwork. Artists such as Jeff Koons who manipulates images on Photoshop, prints it and paints hyper realistic paintings from those images. The structure and process for art and design can be very similar. Can an artist be a designer or vise versa? One argument that critics make is that artists are just artists or that a designer is not an artist. However there are countless artists who are designers and vise versa. One famous designer would be Eva Zeisel. Eva Zeisel is famous for creating a body of dinner sets which she created after she was released in Russia. While imprisoned, Zeisel found inspiration in the curves of her own body claiming it was the only art she had. Afterwards she created "useful" art which was her groundbreaking design of minimalist dinnerware, (Eva Zeisel, groundbreaking designer, dies). Her Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In order to show this, the project must contain artwork from each Adobe program such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Animate. Photoshop can either show our abilities in editing photographs, how we can create gifs or simply how we can use it to draw. Illustrator is mostly about vector drawings and shows how we can use it to create 3D images or simple logo designs. Indesign will show how well we can format, through creating simple menus or as complex as creating magazines. Animate, on the other hand, will show how we can also create moving images, short animations and can also be used to create gifs. • 7. What Is Graphic Design? What is graphic design? The term "graphic design" basically means the art and skill of combining text and images to convey messages on everything and everywhere.2 The very first time the term "graphic design" was used was during 1922 in a newspaper article. By the 1980s, the term was widely used in newspapers, magazines and some publications even ran entire series of articles, attempting to explain what it meant.2 This literature review will cover on the history of graphic design, the impact of digital technology and how digital technology has made life easier. So how did graphic design come about? It all started when Johann Gutenberg invented movable type in 1455 (the 15th century). He invented it because of a reason: to be able to print books. 3 This invention of movable type has caused rapid changes in the world of graphic design. Up till today, many fonts and typefaces that were created back in the 15th century are still being used today. However, the term 'graphic design' originated in the early 20th century when designers started to operate independently. Whether that be through a shift in style, in medium, or technology. Graphic design, contrary to popular belief, actually began in 1922, to define graphic art across time. Since the introduction of the modern computer and graphic design software, it has evolved into an n art style that is present everywhere in the modern world. Graphic design has many different styles just as normal art does, ranging from the minimalism of Apple, to the typographic nature of many modern advertisements. Graphic design isn't just a form of art anymore, but it rather is a medium through which...show more content... Lasko fans, and LA Lakers both have the same potential for superior logo quality, but because of color selection, the LA Lakers hold more graphic quality in regards to their respective logos than does Lasko fans... (Cohen "Evolution of NBA Team Logos",). Gradients, contrast and color are the three most basic techniques used in graphic art, and can define a work as either superior, or amateur. All three of these concepts work together to create the concept of "visual identity". Visual identity is a term coined by Abduzeedo (world renown Brazilian graphic designer), meaning simply the "definitive element within the design process used across all applications and branding materials". As discussed above this could be as simple as the apple logo, or even as complex as a stamp. Most large organizations have a visual identity, even the US Government does. The visual identity of the US Government for example could be the American flag, or the bald eagle, as this is present throughout their entire brand line. During 2008, President Obama used the concept of the visual identity, but took it one step further and used the "verbal identity". He associated the word "change" with his campaign so that this would become an integral part of it. By utilizing the word change he essentially created a memorable center point for his campaign messages by which people could remember and associate with him. The field of graphic design encompasses many different sub–sections including web design and printmaking, however, the field of graphic design is not very heavy on professional writing. Instead graphic design utilizes images to convey messages and concepts. Throughout this essay I will explore the formatting styles, genres and uses of writing, and how writing and rhetorical skills are translated into design skills. After conducting an...show more content... The main genres of writing within the field include proposal writing and technical writing. Many articles I have found use specific terms associated with the field of Graphic Design. For example, the article "Primary Design Elements Found in Outstanding Digital Illustrations," by a designer called LoungeKat, outlines and explains various elements of design such as negative space, implied texture, and monochromatic uses of color. Articles such as this one are mainly written to help designers improve their technique and develop a better understanding of how to create meaningful designs. Within this specific genre of technical writing, designers require an understanding of ethos because their audience need to feel that they are a credible source in the graphic design field. Specifically, within LoungeKat's article, technical terminology is utilized to develop that ethos as well as specific examples. However, a majority of the article utilizes simple language rather than advanced language. Many articles about graphic design maintain that sense of simplicity in their writing as well. I assume this is because the field is not heavy on writing or research and instead it focuses on art and visual designs so there is no need to use such a formal or advanced way of writing. In addition, credible sources such as peer journals are very important in many fields of work because they can be trusted to provide reliable information. This is because there are so many websites dedicated to it. As said before, putting designs on numerous websites increases the chances that someone will buy them. Certain websites even have different prices, which is actually a very good point. Some websites will sell designs for up to $30.00, while some only $5.00 or $10.00 dollars. It is a statistical fact that most people will buy cheaper designs, while some people still buying expensive ones. Either way, both websites will generate the same amount of profit. To go along with this, average graphic designers in America today make over $40,000 a year. That is a more than the average salary of an American today, just for doing barely any work. In some cases, graphic designers can make over $60,000 a year, an outrageous salary for doing barely any work. Graphic design is a very easy way to earn money, but it is also a great way to save money. Most websites have services that give a rewards for posting designs. Posting designs can usually make posters and t–shirt designs cheaper and easier to buy. Many websites similar to Redbubble do this. Of the twelve types of disciplines discussed, I can see myself working in the fields of Brand and Identity Design, Motion Graphics, and Advertising. Admittedly, I assumed that the creation of logos, the look of products, websites, were the only aspects of this field. So, those were the things I created in my leisurely time, or the things I was required to produce in high school classes and competitions. I now know that those aspects only comprise a small part of graphic design, and provides a miniscule, vague description of what Brand Designers achieve. A Brand Designer is responsible for the overall representation of a company, and must market a company's particular brand through the use of several mediums. Those mediums include logos, web sites, apps, and so on. A consistence must exist in everything produced for a certain company because the point/ of a brand is to label a company to they are simple to identify, and companies cannot be easily labelled with ever–changing brands. If I choose the Brand Design disciplines, I am considering working towards a job as a Senior Graphic Designer. I would work closely with the marketing department of a company to help create brand designs. It would be my responsibility to overlook the company's brand and ensure that works Get more content on HelpWriting.net

To a certain extent, graphic designers have to take into consideration the ethical and moral implications any design brief may have and deliberate the monetary value against their own moral standards. Taking this into consideration, the value ofgraphic design will be reflected upon, concentrating on its value within the advertising industry whilst discussing relevant examples of artists whose moral values have been called upon. The history of graphic design and its origins will also be considered in order for the value of graphic design in advertising to be thoroughly explored and developed. Philip B. Meggs said of graphic design: "As early as 1922 the Massachusetts–based type designer, calligrapher, and book designer William Addison Dwiggins coined the term graphic design." (Meggs, P.B., Purvis, A.W., 2006.) Commercial artists, those whose visual communicate and problem solve through design, have been referred to as graphic designers ever since. • 16. Graphic Design Impact On Society Graphic design and advertising has a positive impact on the world because it has improved our society socially. Based on The Effect of computers in Graphic Design: Positive or Negative? by Lillian Myers it is said that "Graphic Design plays a major role in modern life. It is a crucial element in advertising and in conveying information quickly."(Lillian Myers). Artist and designers use all their skills to find a way to express their thoughts, emotions and find a way to share their thoughts with the world. Web Design has allowed us to receive these information all it takes is a click to find what you're looking for. Advertisement such as the Posters hanged on the walls or the ads on T.V are there to lure people's attention. After a person's attention is grabbed, it gives that person curiousity. This curiosity causes them to wonder and ask questions, which then leads to them finding help with a certain company. As a result of just one poster or Advertisement it has influenced people to wonder and communicate with the people surrounding them, they do this to receive the answer to their question. Therefore, showing us that a poster or an ad can influence someone to talk to somebody about the product. According to The Impact of Social Media on Advertising from CompuKol Communications "Marketers are using traditional forms of marketing (radio, television and print) as well as using the Internet to reach out to customers and potential customers."(Michael Chon). • 17. Graphic Design Major Research Paper My intended major is graphic design. The reason I want this major is because it is a, for a lack of a better term, a "blanket major." What I mean by this is that graphic design is such a vague description. It can cover anything from digital arts like drawing from hand to designing advertisments for companies, photography, vfx, and the list continues. If I was to list everything this major cover, I could have easily half a paper of just random occupations. So I'll start by telling you when I came to want to pursue this major, what I intend to do with it. For years now I've wanted to persue some sort of major involving art. Ever since I was little I liked to be creative by drawing and writing so it only seems fitting, and for years I've been trying to decide just what kind of art major I would like...show more content... I wanted to be a traditional studio artist for a while but I was disuaded when I learned about just how hard it is to find success. I then wanted to be an art teacher. I at first wanted to teach little kids art as I could teach them about how fun it was to just sit and draw but at the same time I wanted to challenge people to think more abstractly or at the very least, to think more creatively, so I began considering doing art for older kids. Then I just figured out I'm not very personable or very patient to teach kids, of any age really. I began considering entirely different careers to follow, like a historian for example, but that was when I discovered video games. I've played video games before but I didn't really figure that they were as complex upon initial inspection. What I mean is I looked at video games for a while as little more than maybe a board game and my line of thinking was "Well, people don't have businesses like Monopoly Inc. or The Candyland Co. and i've never heard of any of the companies that popped up on the screens before the title card so ya." A graphic designer is an interesting job because it allows creativity and artistry, combines designing with business and marketing, and gives an opportunity to become well–known in the field. Louise Horton once summed up the job description of the graphic designer by referring to him or her as the "Architect of the Printed Page" (Horton). Graphic Designers can be credited for the marketing...show more content... They can work at their own homes or can obtain a space in an art studio (Horton). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has confirmed that this type of work in the graphic design world has been becoming increasingly popular by stating that in 2010, about thirty percent of all graphic designers were self–employed (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). As with all jobs, free–lancing does have its advantages as disadvantages. An advantage is that free–lancers have an opportunity that most other graphic designers do not, and that is to make an incredible amount of money if they create an extraordinary piece of art. They do not have to share their money with anyone if they make a good sale. (Gordon). Another advantage is that there is no one telling them what they have to create, no one is holding them back from their possible success. They are in charge of their own reputation, may it be good or bad (Gordon). A disadvantage is that there can be long stretches of time where business cannot be found, and that can cause some free–lancers to have to work more than one job (Gordon). Free Lance is very risky and most people prefer a job with a guaranteed, steady, income than the insecurity of free–lance (Gordon). Whether working on one's own, or involved with a business, it is very important to have the proper experience before setting out for a job.
