Daily Journal
I woke up at 5.00am this morning after a decent rest. I felt energetic because I slept early
yesterday at around 9pm. I jumped out of bed and tidied my room saving time for my morning
jog. Later I went down stairs and found mum already up and watching her favorite morning
sermon on television. I greeted her and asked for my brother: he was still asleep; he is not as
hardworking as I am. I took the dog and told mom I was going jogging. Once out of the gate I
started jogging slowly into the nearby park where my friends and I go jogging every morning and
on weekends. I had jogged for about half an hour when I met Cindy one of my...show more content...
Jogging, I happened to meet one of my neighbors and friend Cindy. We related extremely well as
friends since childhood, and this interaction is what brought us together. Relating to people
around us is what makes us human; we can be termed as social beings. Organization is what
describes the role of doing things in a social group (Eubank, 1932); I followed my daily routine of
waking up, tidying up, jogging and getting ready for work in an orderly way so that things done in
the house and by other family members would not be affected. After jogging, I dressed up to look
neat and maintain my image in the community. Mom had made breakfast for us before we went to
school that was her duty to the family, and she expected all of us at the table for breakfast. We took
breakfast as an institution; institutions involved the arrangements done by human beings in
interaction with each other and regularly just like we did every morning for breakfast. School was
mandatory, and that was another step in life that I had to complete in order to find my place in the
community. I rushed to school; a place that gave me identity and gave me with knowledge. Going to
school made me motivated, responsible, and focused and I needed to be a successful individual in
my society. School was also not just a learning institution, but it gave me the identity

Journaling Essay
Introduction
The intent of this evaluation of Langer's (2002) article is to find the schemes he employed to acquire
knowledge on how adult's student respond to demand computer class, reflect critically, in
summation, the contrast between non–traditional and traditional students about the use of deviations
journals in the field. The focal point of the study casts light on the strength and weaknesses portrayed
in his report on the use of journaling among traditional and non–conventual students (Langer, 2002).
The construction of this subject will produce five major elements starting with the research questions
and purpose. The second factor is the theoretical/conceptual foundation, followed by the method,

reflecting on the utilization of learning journal purpose.
Langer (2002) continues with proper context for reviewing different publications. The article has a
flow and a remarkable transition from a definition to another. For instance, based on a system of
ideas or literature descriptions vary from theoretical enunciation as in "John Dewey and Jurgen
Habermas (1993) with the product of practice based on viewpoints, while Schön sees it as
research–in–action" (as cited in Langer, 2003, p. 338).
In the literature review section, Langer, (2002) introduces a clear summary and perspectives of
other authors about journals as learning instruments. For instance, in the second paragraph, the third
sentence on page 338, in the concept of reflection in learning, producing the proper learning
atmosphere is the educational task (Langer, 2002). In other words, Abbas and Gilmer (1997, as
cited in Langer, 2002) regardless of the course, students extend their awareness by keeping a diary
(p. 338). The analysis of relevant literature forms the groundwork of the survey; the value that
journals bring in understanding, the learning process, and the process of changing from principle to
performance (Langer, 2002, p. 339). In this case, journal usage by instructors, improves cognitive
development in the of science,

Journal About Fear
Journal #3 Fear is something that you don't want to ever face. I have many fears but the one that I
would really love to overcome is fear of heights. Being about to overcome it would be amazing
because I will be able to do many things. Throughout my life, I was always scared to go on roller
costars and go on high slides in the parks. Sometimes I get really frustrated because people
younger than me aren't scared and I am. My dad is also scared of highest which explains that I
got it from him. Not many people understand how it feels just to stand there all look down from a
really high building and your feet are just shaking. I admire people that just walk on a thin rope
from one building to another because that needs a lot of courage and confidence. Being about to see
those things on television I kind of want to give myself hope that it's not bad to go on a roller costar
and try to over come my fear. Although most people...show more content...
I think that being able to get a masters degree is hard to become a pharmacist or a doctor and it is.
When I was first in middle school I was scared to not get my diploma and now everything is way
worse since I'm grown up. There is GPA that we need to worry about and extracurricular activities
and bunch of more things when we move up with our education. I might be good in school but I still
have the fear that I wont be able to get a high education like others and that scares me very much.
Sometimes I think what would happen if I just do bad in couple of classes and my GPA drops
and I wont be able to get into a good university in the future which can be scary sometimes. Most
of the time, I think about how I need to step out of my comfort zone and step up my game so I
can get a good education and have a good life in the future. Being about to see others succeed give
me more strength and power that if he or she is able to do that, than I can

My Dream Journal
One of the best things I've done in my life is that I've constantly kept a dream journal. When I was
only 14, I became interested in what dreams meant and ever since then I've taken my dreams very
seriously. I use my dreams to help me understand what is going on in my life and what I need to
do going forward. If you are not currently keeping a record of your dreams, let me list the reasons
why you should take this dream journal challenge and start!
5 Reasons To Keep A Dream Journal
1. Others Can't Interpret Your Dreams For You
Everyone wakes up from time to time and wonders 'what did that dream mean?'
There are different places online you can go to get help to interpret your dreams. For instance, you
can check out Dream Moods, type in 'ex–boyfriend' and get a pre–written response on what it means
to dream about an ex–boyfriend.
Some of the interpretation is pretty good, and I'm not saying that it might not be an accurate
interpretation for you. However, there is a good chance that it's not. The dream may not just about
your ex–boyfriend (or whatever you dreamt about) and some generic interpretations. In fact, there
may be something else in the dream, such as a place or feeling, that is the real focus of the dream
and why you are having it.
When you keep a dream journal, you can write down all those little parts of the dream that make up
the whole, and as you go over your dream you may find that the dream is more about something else
than what you originally thought.

Home Health Journal Essay examples
Home health care has become an increasingly acceptable and popular form of health care provided
to patients for acute, chronic, and terminal illnesses. Home health continues to rise in demand for a
variety of reasons. Home health is a cost effective method of providing patients with the care that
they require (Phipps, Monahan, Sands, Marek, & Neighbors, 2003, p.154). Patients can receive
needed care without the added cost of a hospital stay or an extended hospital stay. This helps to lower
the cost for hospitals, insurance companies, public assistance, and the patient. Other added benefits
to patients receiving home health care are a decrease in nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections,
improved nutritional status, personalization of...show more content...
When coordinated properly, the patient and nurse can restore the patient to their optimal functioning
capability. During the home health observation day, there were several opportunities to observe a
variety of patients with varying levels of functioning ability, different illnesses, and different needs
and levels of interaction with the nurse. The first patient seen was a seventy–three year old
Caucasian female with an ulcer on her right heel. Several weeks prior, she had scratched her left
leg and she also had several small wounds on her left leg. The orders were to clean and redress the
ulcer. She has a history of end stage renal disease, pneumonia, weakness, diabetes, dialysis, and
right hip fracture. Upon entering the home, the patient was found to be sitting in a wheel chair in
the living room watching television with her husband close by her side. She greeted the nurse
with a smile and began to update her on her current condition. Her heel was "hurting" and she
rated her pain an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. She also had some "swelling" that she could not "get to go
away; because, she could not get up and walk. They need to fix my foot so that I can get up and
get around." She told the nurse that she had been to see the doctor "yesterday" and the doctor had
given her a written order that she wanted her to see. The order was written for an evaluation for a
soft pressure shoe fitting. The nurse read the order to

Journals, Reflection, and Learning Essay
Journals, Reflection, and Learning
A journal is a crucible for processing the raw material of experience in order to integrate it with
existing knowledge and create new meaning. Among the many purposes for journal writing are the
following: to break habitual ways of thinking; enhance the development of reflective judgment and
metacognition; increase awareness of tacit knowledge; facilitate self–exploration and personal
growth; and work out solutions to problems (Andrusyszyn and Davie 1997; Mitchell and Coltrinari
2001; Moon 1999). Moon (1999) and Carroll (1994) discuss theories and research that support a
number of assumptions about learning from journals:
. Articulating connections between new and existing knowledge improves...show more content...
Moon (1999) outlines a "map" of the reflective writing process. She calls it a map to convey that
the process is flexible rather than a linear sequence of activities. The map depicts–
. A purpose for journal writing that guides selection of topics
. Description of events or issues (observations; comments on personal behavior, feelings, and context)
. Linkage to related material (further observations, relevant knowledge or experience, suggestions
from others, theory, new information)
. Reflective thinking (relating, experimenting, exploring, reinterpreting from other points of view,
theorizing)
. Other processes (testing new ideas, representing material in other forms such as through graphics or
dialogue)
. Product (statement of something that has been learned or solved, identification of new issue or
question)
. Further reflection leading to resolution or looping back to an earlier step
However, before using a reflective tool such as a journal in teaching, educators should consider
whether they uncritically accept reflection as inherently good and whether the culture in which they
teach supports it (Conway 1999; English 2001).
All adults may reflect, but not all reflection results in learning. Although mental reflection may occur
spontaneously, "written reflection is not a natural process, but has to be

Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay
Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms
Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to
become involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a
beneficial tool for student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are
many types of journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different
types of journals that exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide what
the most effective journal for this classroom would be.
First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an
alternate way of expression. It promotes individual...show more content...
Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain
manner in order to receive a good grade.
Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the freedom
in which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist's notebook.
Journal entries are "normally" done by using words, however there is a move to allow students to
use photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to express
themselves. According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of journal
writing is for students to use journals to 1) record personal experiences, 2) explore reactions and
interpretations, and 3) record and analyze information. These criteria or aspects can be applied to
any and all disciplines. I think that the most important place to include journal wrtiting is in the
English classroom. This is where writing begins to take shape. Since it such a vital aspect of
everyday life, students should feel comfortable expressing themselves and should have the means to
do so. Journals allow students the opportunity to visual express themselves and to see their ideas on

Yesterday was good. I worked out for the first time since I got the flu. I ran on the elliptical AND
I did some strength training. The free gym in my apartment complex isn't the best, but it has a
small variety of cardio and strength training machines. It's decent, and gets the job done. It has
machines for strength training your arms and legs, but not your abs. That's not that big of a deal,
though. I can just do all sorts of crunches to tone up my ab muscles. I've gained weight since I
stopped working out at the end of December. Granted, I only followed my exercise regimen

benefits of working out and eating right, and I miss them. After trying out the free gym yesterday,
and googling ab exercises I can do at home, I've realized that it's completely possible to follow one
without spending money, including that includes both cardio and strength training. I don't need
to spend $30 on a gym membership! I can do this! I'm going to work out today, do some cardio
and work out my core (I worked out my arms and legs yesterday). After that, I'm going to shower

heading over to my place afterward. Eric is going to pick Maansi up from our place at 3pm, and

Nursing Reflective Journal
Course objective 1: Use beginning critical thinking and clinical judgement when providing safe,
quality nursing care This objective was reflected in the medication pass for my patient this week. He
medication list was much more complicated than my past patients. Additionally, she had medications
that I was very unfamiliar with. She was taking an anti–parkinson agent every day despite not having
the disease. I was able to look up the medicine and discovered that she was taking it to reduce the
shaking caused by a prior stroke. This morning was much busier and far more hectic than past weeks.
The busyness was distracting during the time I prepped to administer medication to my patient. This
experience reminded me that it is essential to maintain focus when dealing with drug safety. Nurses
always use critical thinking and clinical judgement when going through the six rights for medications.

According to the news, Greg Winn, Telstra's chief operations officer said that "WE RUN an absolute

Furthermore, Greg Winn claim that the employees in Telstra must try any measures to persuade

If the employees don't operate and satisfy the superior's reqirement, they would be fired from

almost pirate–like. You get to look for treasure. Or in this casewriting devices that keep popping up

found that in my journals I tend to follow the troupe of chronologically filing the events, that I'm
secretive and very emotional. As I dived into researching myself, I found that in my technique for
journal writing I'm very straight forward. I wrote down what happened each day in chronological
order. For example in Artifact 1, I go through a bad day, "Waking up late on days of my morning
class is absolutely the worst." On to "When class ended I hurried out to my car to get food before
work. Lo and behold, I had a parking ticket because I hadn't picked up my parking pass yet."
Lastly, "I get on my comfiest pajamas, sit down and start homework, but the internet isn't
working." After reading over this artifact I came to the conclusion, I do this because when I go
back to reflect, it makes the most sense to go in order. When you read my journals, you get a
perception of what my days are like and how I feel about them. They make sense because I go in
order, which in a sense is logos. The logical

Nutrition Analysis of my Diet Journal Essay
In my Diet Journal, I recorded all the food I ate over the weekend with the best accuracy I could
attempt to do. But one of the factors that made my food diary inaccurate was that I couldn't find
every detail and percentage of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins in everything I ate. Also, all of the
amounts and servings were approximations, not exact amounts. I was able to record everything I
ate, but accuracy may have been affected by estimations and sources. The calorie intake I had over
the three day period ranged from 1900–2500 calories. This was over my 1800 BMR, due to the food
choices and fluctuation in diet. I am 5'4'' tall and weigh 110 pounds. I also have a BMI of 18.88.

me to gain more weight than 10 pounds over a one year period. The time that my diet was
recorded, I may have eaten more than I usually do. For day 1, I ate an more fat than

and carbohydrates on the other days. My water intake 7 cups a day on average, but I need to

and actual amount that I consumed. The error in food data was caused by using different sources
for data. Some sites had the same food but different data. I estimated my consumption as close as
I could on almost all of my foods. My data could be more accurate if I had used only one source
for food data, and find the exact measurements for what I ate. Also, my record of fruits and
vegetables may not have been accurate because I do not usually eat them alone, so they may have
been in my food and I did not take account of them. On the third day, I ate Jack in the Box the
whole day, which is a rare event to occur in my diet. On the weekends I am less active, but

What Was The Purpose Of The Freedom's Journal
The Freedom's Journal was the very first newspaper runned and owned by two free born African
Americans, Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm, in the United States. It was found on March

was to go against the racist articles in the main newspaper and to let its reader know news from all

of news but they also tried to inspire their readers by publishing biographies of black figures, they
tried to better their readers by having a column for job listings African American people can apply

Emotional Journal Essay
How to Reconnect With Yourself Through Emotion Journaling Create an Emotion Journal that you
will be using for the next 1–2 weeks. You will observe your negative emotions when they arise and
you will write them down in your journal every day. By doing this you will learn to recognise your
negative emotions and become aware of them when they come up during the day.
1. Recognise your Negative Emotions
Every time you experience a negative emotion (anger, fear, shame, guilt or worry) write it down in
your journal and elicit:
What was the circumstance in which I felt this emotion?
What caused or triggered the emotion?
How did I feel and what was really behind my feelings?
Why did I feel the way I felt?
Make sure you look at every situation...show more content...
Observe it only as a physical or bodily sensation rather than a story you are attached to. It can also
help if you look down while going through this experience as this connects you with your feelings,
rather than looking up which creates a mental state that produces thoughts which ultimately distract
you from getting in touch with your true feelings.
At this stage, you don't need to do anything, solely be with the experience. Stay in the present
moment, observe what is happening, breathe and feel the emotion. Emotion is energy in motion.
Discover what the energy is behind your emotion. What is fuelling it?
Once you understand that emotion is just energy moving through your body, you will find it much
easier to unidentify from it. Emotion is not you. It is only showing you the aspects of you that are
asking for attention, understanding, healing and integration.
Don't try to resist your emotions as this will create an energetic attraction to more of the same
negative vibration, while keeping you stuck and unable to move through your feelings. You know
the saying, "What you resist persists." Suppressing your emotions will only create the false
impression of having dealt with the problem, when in reality you just stopped the full expression of
how you felt, blocking it from naturally dissolving on its

College students like myself often put off sleep for other activities like studying, doing homework

back to the high school. The last seven nights of my sleeping journal, I only had one nightmare,
because I went camping with my church group and we were in the woods and we had told scary
stories. My sleep patterns on the weekend are very different to my sleep patterns on the weekday
because I usually go to bed really late and not wake up until late in the afternoon. During this
journal, it was hard for me to get used to waking up on specific times, since I would stay up late to
do homework or study for a test coming up. This is one of the reasons why my sleeping habits
have not been normal. I have learned that my sleeping habits do have an affect on my daily life. I
should try and get enough sleep, so that my body can actually rest and not be so stressed out. I
wish that I would not skip dinner for homework, because when I do wake up, my stomach hurts a
lot from not eating. This problem also makes me crash during the day since I do not have enough
time to eat, and so my production level decreases. Sleep Journal Entries Jennifer Nguyen Mr.
Daughtry Intro to Psychology 09–09–2012 Day 1: I went to sleep at 1:00 am and woke up at 6:11

Academic Journal Essay
I am a biology major. Our task was to find an academic journal that pertains to our specific major, I
did just that. I ventured to the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences to obtain my article. I am
glad I did because the material is fascinating and heavily relates to my interests. The article I choose
is called "Shared Genetic Predisposition in Peripartum and Dilated Cardiomyopathies" which has a
large number of contributors. This article has heavy uses of jargon that even I had a difficult time
understanding. The academic journal analyzed a disease that occurs in women during their last few
months of pregnancy and a couple of months after delivery. Study patients were chosen from various
locations around the world. One third of the...show more content...
Therefore, unique genetic variations are correlated to the risk of getting the disease. The sequencing
of DNA also plays an important role in this study. Enriched encoding was used to examine 43 genes
that are associated with dilated cardiomyopathy when mutated.
Variants were identified with Genome Analysis Tool Kit's which led to further discovery and
progress in the study. The sequencing was performed on the 43 genes, and 95 percent of targeted
bases were sequenced to a read depth of more than 20 times. The main focus was on truncating
variants that included nonsense, frameshift, and splicing variants, because they are predicted to have
a strong effect on protein structure and function. This article was very interesting to read and potent
with biological information. After taking this all in, I was interested to see what a professional in
biology would think of the content. Friday the 15th of September, I sought a professional in the
biology field. I read the article "Shared Genetic Predisposition in Peripartum and Dilated
Cardiomyopathies" and my question was; If diagnosed early enough, could the symptoms of
cardiomyopathy be prevented to lead to a full recovery given all the research? I asked Douglas
Houston, a professor at the University of Iowa with a PhD this question.
Starting with the physical aspects of this journey, it smelt like a zoo. I entered through the south side
of the building which was the invertebrate zoology

Journal Essay

  • 1. Daily Journal: a Day in My Life A day in my life Victoria A. Solis SOCI111, American Military University 16 February, 2012 Daily Journal I woke up at 5.00am this morning after a decent rest. I felt energetic because I slept early yesterday at around 9pm. I jumped out of bed and tidied my room saving time for my morning jog. Later I went down stairs and found mum already up and watching her favorite morning sermon on television. I greeted her and asked for my brother: he was still asleep; he is not as hardworking as I am. I took the dog and told mom I was going jogging. Once out of the gate I started jogging slowly into the nearby park where my friends and I go jogging every morning and on weekends. I had jogged for about half an hour when I met Cindy one of my...show more content... Jogging, I happened to meet one of my neighbors and friend Cindy. We related extremely well as friends since childhood, and this interaction is what brought us together. Relating to people around us is what makes us human; we can be termed as social beings. Organization is what describes the role of doing things in a social group (Eubank, 1932); I followed my daily routine of waking up, tidying up, jogging and getting ready for work in an orderly way so that things done in the house and by other family members would not be affected. After jogging, I dressed up to look neat and maintain my image in the community. Mom had made breakfast for us before we went to school that was her duty to the family, and she expected all of us at the table for breakfast. We took breakfast as an institution; institutions involved the arrangements done by human beings in interaction with each other and regularly just like we did every morning for breakfast. School was mandatory, and that was another step in life that I had to complete in order to find my place in the community. I rushed to school; a place that gave me identity and gave me with knowledge. Going to school made me motivated, responsible, and focused and I needed to be a successful individual in my society. School was also not just a learning institution, but it gave me the identity Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Journaling Essay Introduction The intent of this evaluation of Langer's (2002) article is to find the schemes he employed to acquire knowledge on how adult's student respond to demand computer class, reflect critically, in summation, the contrast between non–traditional and traditional students about the use of deviations journals in the field. The focal point of the study casts light on the strength and weaknesses portrayed in his report on the use of journaling among traditional and non–conventual students (Langer, 2002). From these two sentences, the reader undoubtedly understands the review of literature is reflecting on the utilization of learning journal purpose. Langer (2002) continues with proper context for reviewing different publications. The article has a flow and a remarkable transition from a definition to another. For instance, based on a system of ideas or literature descriptions vary from theoretical enunciation as in "John Dewey and Jurgen Habermas (1993) with the product of practice based on viewpoints, while SchГ¶n sees it as research–in–action" (as cited in Langer, 2003, p. 338). In the literature review section, Langer, (2002) introduces a clear summary and perspectives of other authors about journals as learning instruments. For instance, in the second paragraph, the third sentence on page 338, in the concept of reflection in learning, producing the proper learning atmosphere is the educational task (Langer, 2002). In other words, Abbas and Gilmer (1997, as cited in Langer, 2002) regardless of the course, students extend their awareness by keeping a diary (p. 338). The analysis of relevant literature forms the groundwork of the survey; the value that journals bring in understanding, the learning process, and the process of changing from principle to performance (Langer, 2002, p. 339). In this case, journal usage by instructors, improves cognitive development in the of science, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Journal About Fear Journal #3 Fear is something that you don't want to ever face. I have many fears but the one that I would really love to overcome is fear of heights. Being about to overcome it would be amazing because I will be able to do many things. Throughout my life, I was always scared to go on roller costars and go on high slides in the parks. Sometimes I get really frustrated because people younger than me aren't scared and I am. My dad is also scared of highest which explains that I got it from him. Not many people understand how it feels just to stand there all look down from a really high building and your feet are just shaking. I admire people that just walk on a thin rope from one building to another because that needs a lot of courage and confidence. Being about to see those things on television I kind of want to give myself hope that it's not bad to go on a roller costar and try to over come my fear. Although most people...show more content... I think that being able to get a masters degree is hard to become a pharmacist or a doctor and it is. When I was first in middle school I was scared to not get my diploma and now everything is way worse since I'm grown up. There is GPA that we need to worry about and extracurricular activities and bunch of more things when we move up with our education. I might be good in school but I still have the fear that I wont be able to get a high education like others and that scares me very much. Sometimes I think what would happen if I just do bad in couple of classes and my GPA drops and I wont be able to get into a good university in the future which can be scary sometimes. Most of the time, I think about how I need to step out of my comfort zone and step up my game so I can get a good education and have a good life in the future. • 4. My Dream Journal One of the best things I've done in my life is that I've constantly kept a dream journal. When I was only 14, I became interested in what dreams meant and ever since then I've taken my dreams very seriously. I use my dreams to help me understand what is going on in my life and what I need to do going forward. If you are not currently keeping a record of your dreams, let me list the reasons why you should take this dream journal challenge and start! 5 Reasons To Keep A Dream Journal 1. Others Can't Interpret Your Dreams For You Everyone wakes up from time to time and wonders 'what did that dream mean?' There are different places online you can go to get help to interpret your dreams. For instance, you can check out Dream Moods, type in 'ex–boyfriend' and get a pre–written response on what it means to dream about an ex–boyfriend. Some of the interpretation is pretty good, and I'm not saying that it might not be an accurate interpretation for you. However, there is a good chance that it's not. The dream may not just about your ex–boyfriend (or whatever you dreamt about) and some generic interpretations. In fact, there may be something else in the dream, such as a place or feeling, that is the real focus of the dream and why you are having it. When you keep a dream journal, you can write down all those little parts of the dream that make up the whole, and as you go over your dream you may find that the dream is more about something else than what you originally thought. • 5. Home Health Journal Essay examples Home health care has become an increasingly acceptable and popular form of health care provided to patients for acute, chronic, and terminal illnesses. Home health continues to rise in demand for a variety of reasons. Home health is a cost effective method of providing patients with the care that they require (Phipps, Monahan, Sands, Marek, & Neighbors, 2003, p.154). Patients can receive needed care without the added cost of a hospital stay or an extended hospital stay. This helps to lower the cost for hospitals, insurance companies, public assistance, and the patient. Other added benefits to patients receiving home health care are a decrease in nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections, improved nutritional status, personalization of...show more content... When coordinated properly, the patient and nurse can restore the patient to their optimal functioning capability. During the home health observation day, there were several opportunities to observe a variety of patients with varying levels of functioning ability, different illnesses, and different needs and levels of interaction with the nurse. The first patient seen was a seventy–three year old Caucasian female with an ulcer on her right heel. Several weeks prior, she had scratched her left leg and she also had several small wounds on her left leg. The orders were to clean and redress the ulcer. She has a history of end stage renal disease, pneumonia, weakness, diabetes, dialysis, and right hip fracture. Upon entering the home, the patient was found to be sitting in a wheel chair in the living room watching television with her husband close by her side. She greeted the nurse with a smile and began to update her on her current condition. Her heel was "hurting" and she rated her pain an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. She also had some "swelling" that she could not "get to go away; because, she could not get up and walk. They need to fix my foot so that I can get up and get around." She told the nurse that she had been to see the doctor "yesterday" and the doctor had given her a written order that she wanted her to see. The order was written for an evaluation for a soft pressure shoe fitting. The nurse read the order to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Journals, Reflection, and Learning Essay Journals, Reflection, and Learning A journal is a crucible for processing the raw material of experience in order to integrate it with existing knowledge and create new meaning. Among the many purposes for journal writing are the following: to break habitual ways of thinking; enhance the development of reflective judgment and metacognition; increase awareness of tacit knowledge; facilitate self–exploration and personal growth; and work out solutions to problems (Andrusyszyn and Davie 1997; Mitchell and Coltrinari 2001; Moon 1999). Moon (1999) and Carroll (1994) discuss theories and research that support a number of assumptions about learning from journals: . She calls it a map to convey that the process is flexible rather than a linear sequence of activities. The map depicts– . A purpose for journal writing that guides selection of topics . Description of events or issues (observations; comments on personal behavior, feelings, and context) . Linkage to related material (further observations, relevant knowledge or experience, suggestions from others, theory, new information) . Reflective thinking (relating, experimenting, exploring, reinterpreting from other points of view, theorizing) . Other processes (testing new ideas, representing material in other forms such as through graphics or dialogue) . Further reflection leading to resolution or looping back to an earlier step However, before using a reflective tool such as a journal in teaching, educators should consider whether they uncritically accept reflection as inherently good and whether the culture in which they teach supports it (Conway 1999; English 2001). All adults may reflect, but not all reflection results in learning. Although mental reflection may occur spontaneously, "written reflection is not a natural process, but has to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to become involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a beneficial tool for student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are many types of journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different types of journals that exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide what the most effective journal for this classroom would be. First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an alternate way of expression. It promotes individual...show more content... Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain manner in order to receive a good grade. Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the freedom in which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist's notebook. Journal entries are "normally" done by using words, however there is a move to allow students to use photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to express themselves. According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of journal writing is for students to use journals to 1) record personal experiences, 2) explore reactions and interpretations, and 3) record and analyze information. These criteria or aspects can be applied to any and all disciplines. I think that the most important place to include journal wrtiting is in the English classroom. This is where writing begins to take shape. Since it such a vital aspect of everyday life, students should feel comfortable expressing themselves and should have the means to do so. Journals allow students the opportunity to visual express themselves and to see their ideas on paper giving Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Journal Entry Essay Yesterday was good. I worked out for the first time since I got the flu. I ran on the elliptical AND I did some strength training. The free gym in my apartment complex isn't the best, but it has a small variety of cardio and strength training machines. It's decent, and gets the job done. It has machines for strength training your arms and legs, but not your abs. That's not that big of a deal, though. I can just do all sorts of crunches to tone up my ab muscles. I've gained weight since I stopped working out at the end of December. Granted, I only followed my exercise regimen adamantly for two months, or maybe even only a month and a half. After trying out the free gym yesterday, and googling ab exercises I can do at home, I've realized that it's completely possible to follow one without spending money, including that includes both cardio and strength training. I don't need to spend $30 on a gym membership! I can do this! I'm going to work out today, do some cardio and work out my core (I worked out my arms and legs yesterday). After that, I'm going to shower and go grocery shopping for Maansi's birthday party. I have to get the cake from Publix at 3pm. Zenith gets done with clinic at 2pm, and she was planning on going home, changing, and then heading over to my place afterward. Eric is going to pick Maansi up from our place at 3pm, and they're going to grab lunch/he's going to distract her while Zenith and I set up the place. I'm glad there are going to be more of Maansi's Life friends than Indian friends. To be entirely honest, part of me wishes Anu wasn't coming. There's this competitive dynamic between all of the Indian girls. Priti Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Nursing Reflective Journal Course objective 1: Use beginning critical thinking and clinical judgement when providing safe, quality nursing care This objective was reflected in the medication pass for my patient this week. He medication list was much more complicated than my past patients. Additionally, she had medications that I was very unfamiliar with. She was taking an anti–parkinson agent every day despite not having the disease. I was able to look up the medicine and discovered that she was taking it to reduce the shaking caused by a prior stroke. This morning was much busier and far more hectic than past weeks. The busyness was distracting during the time I prepped to administer medication to my patient. This experience reminded me that it is essential to maintain focus when dealing with drug safety. Nurses always use critical thinking and clinical judgement when going through the six rights for medications. What were your goals today? Did you achieve your goals? My goal today was to be there for my patient both with nursing care and any emotional support they may need. I found...show more content... She expressed her nervousness and asked me if I was a Christian. I said yes, and she asked if I would be willing to pray for her. This interaction made me realize the profound role nurses can have in holistic health. I was able to bring her comfort and solace through something that held great value to her. If they just focus on the economic goal and ignore employee's health, the productivity of employees would lower than normal level or even worse. Also they may lead to negative effects on employees. I always try to make the experience an adventure. Thinking of the rereading as a deep dive. Deep diving sounds exciting, almost pirate–like. You get to look for treasure. Or in this casewriting devices that keep popping up in your writing. My deep dive produced a few things I hadn't noticed while writing my journals. I found that in my journals I tend to follow the troupe of chronologically filing the events, that I'm secretive and very emotional. As I dived into researching myself, I found that in my technique for journal writing I'm very straight forward. I wrote down what happened each day in chronological order. For example in Artifact 1, I go through a bad day, "Waking up late on days of my morning class is absolutely the worst." On to "When class ended I hurried out to my car to get food before work. Lo and behold, I had a parking ticket because I hadn't picked up my parking pass yet." Lastly, "I get on my comfiest pajamas, sit down and start homework, but the internet isn't working." After reading over this artifact I came to the conclusion, I do this because when I go back to reflect, it makes the most sense to go in order. When you read my journals, you get a perception of what my days are like and how I feel about them. They make sense because I go in order, which in a sense is logos. But one of the factors that made my food diary inaccurate was that I couldn't find every detail and percentage of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins in everything I ate. Also, all of the amounts and servings were approximations, not exact amounts. I was able to record everything I ate, but accuracy may have been affected by estimations and sources. The calorie intake I had over the three day period ranged from 1900–2500 calories. This was over my 1800 BMR, due to the food choices and fluctuation in diet. I am 5'4'' tall and weigh 110 pounds. Even with my activity level taken into account, this should have caused me to gain more weight than 10 pounds over a one year period. The time that my diet was recorded, I may have eaten more than I usually do. For day 1, I ate an more fat than recommended, which was not over by much because it was 15%. On the second day I ate 40% fat, which is over the 30% recommended. On the third day, my fat intake was 32%, which is once again, over the daily recommended. I have been eating in the range of the recommended proteins and carbohydrates on the other days. My water intake 7 cups a day on average, but I need to consume more fruits and vegetables. The errors in my food chart includes the data of the food and actual amount that I consumed. The error in food data was caused by using different sources for data. Some sites had the same food but different data. I estimated my consumption as close as I could on almost all of my foods. My data could be more accurate if I had used only one source for food data, and find the exact measurements for what I ate. Also, my record of fruits and vegetables may not have been accurate because I do not usually eat them alone, so they may have been in my food and I did not take account of them. On the third day, I ate Jack in the Box the whole day, which is a rare event to occur in my diet. On the weekends I am less active, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net

What Was The Purpose Of The Freedom's Journal The Freedom's Journal was the very first newspaper runned and owned by two free born African Americans, Samuel Cornish and John Russwurm, in the United States. It was found on March 16, 1827, the same year that slavery was abolished in New York City. This weekly four page, four column paper was started by a group of free African Americans in New York City and its purpose was to go against the racist articles in the main newspaper and to let its reader know news from all over the world while also entertaining them and educating them. This journal was not just a place of news but they also tried to inspire their readers by publishing biographies of black figures, they tried to better their readers by having a column for job listings African American people can apply to, and they advocated for the basic rights for African Americans like voting, political rights, and to stop the lynching. You will observe your negative emotions when they arise and you will write them down in your journal every day. Recognise your Negative Emotions Every time you experience a negative emotion (anger, fear, shame, guilt or worry) write it down in your journal and elicit: What was the circumstance in which I felt this emotion? Observe it only as a physical or bodily sensation rather than a story you are attached to. It can also help if you look down while going through this experience as this connects you with your feelings, rather than looking up which creates a mental state that produces thoughts which ultimately distract you from getting in touch with your true feelings. At this stage, you don't need to do anything, solely be with the experience. Stay in the present moment, observe what is happening, breathe and feel the emotion. Emotion is energy in motion. Discover what the energy is behind your emotion. What is fuelling it? Once you understand that emotion is just energy moving through your body, you will find it much easier to unidentify from it. Emotion is not you. It is only showing you the aspects of you that are asking for attention, understanding, healing and integration. Don't try to resist your emotions as this will create an energetic attraction to more of the same negative vibration, while keeping you stuck and unable to move through your feelings. You know the saying, "What you resist persists." Suppressing your emotions will only create the false impression of having dealt with the problem, when in reality you just stopped the full expression of how you felt, blocking it from naturally dissolving on its

Sleep Journal Essay Jennifer Nguyen Professor Perry Daughtry Intro to Psychology 09–28–2012 Sleep Journal Essay College students like myself often put off sleep for other activities like studying, doing homework or even just staying up all night with a friend. Our body follows the twenty–four hour cycle of each day and night through a biological clock called the Circadian rhythm. On the weekdays, staying up all night and skipping meals makes it difficult to focus in class. After lunchtime, I become sleepy and have difficulty focusing on my other classes. In the afternoon, this affects my body because it does not give me energy, but instead it makes me crash earlier in the day. David Myers, the author of Exploring Psychology the eighth edition, says,...show more content... The next four nights of sleeping were fairly decent. The dreams consisted of dreaming about being in a fairytale and going back to high school because in that dream it was mandatory to go back to the high school. The last seven nights of my sleeping journal, I only had one nightmare, because I went camping with my church group and we were in the woods and we had told scary stories. My sleep patterns on the weekend are very different to my sleep patterns on the weekday because I usually go to bed really late and not wake up until late in the afternoon. During this journal, it was hard for me to get used to waking up on specific times, since I would stay up late to do homework or study for a test coming up. This is one of the reasons why my sleeping habits have not been normal. I have learned that my sleeping habits do have an affect on my daily life. I should try and get enough sleep, so that my body can actually rest and not be so stressed out. I wish that I would not skip dinner for homework, because when I do wake up, my stomach hurts a lot from not eating. This problem also makes me crash during the day since I do not have enough time to eat, and so my production level decreases. I ventured to the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences to obtain my article. I am glad I did because the material is fascinating and heavily relates to my interests. The article I choose is called "Shared Genetic Predisposition in Peripartum and Dilated Cardiomyopathies" which has a large number of contributors. This article has heavy uses of jargon that even I had a difficult time understanding. The academic journal analyzed a disease that occurs in women during their last few months of pregnancy and a couple of months after delivery. Study patients were chosen from various locations around the world. One third of the...show more content... Therefore, unique genetic variations are correlated to the risk of getting the disease. The sequencing of DNA also plays an important role in this study. Enriched encoding was used to examine 43 genes that are associated with dilated cardiomyopathy when mutated. Variants were identified with Genome Analysis Tool Kit's which led to further discovery and progress in the study. The sequencing was performed on the 43 genes, and 95 percent of targeted bases were sequenced to a read depth of more than 20 times. The main focus was on truncating variants that included nonsense, frameshift, and splicing variants, because they are predicted to have a strong effect on protein structure and function. This article was very interesting to read and potent with biological information. After taking this all in, I was interested to see what a professional in biology would think of the content. Friday the 15th of September, I sought a professional in the biology field. I read the article "Shared Genetic Predisposition in Peripartum and Dilated Cardiomyopathies" and my question was; If diagnosed early enough, could the symptoms of cardiomyopathy be prevented to lead to a full recovery given all the research? I asked Douglas Houston, a professor at the University of Iowa with a PhD this question. Starting with the physical aspects of this journey, it smelt like a zoo. I entered through the south side of the building which was the invertebrate zoology Get more content on HelpWriting.net
