7. The man in charge of the wagon train thought Mary would need a lot of help along the way. He told her she should not go with the group. She knew that she could make it with Heavenly Father’s help.
8. One day, one of the oxen got very sick. The man in charge of the wagon train thought it would die. Sick Ox Mary asked her brothers, who held the priesthood, to bless the ox. She knew that Heavenly Father would help her.
9. Soon, the ox was able to get up and pull the wagon again.
10. Mary and her family were able to join the wagon train.
11. They made it to the valley and lived happily there for many years. No matter what troubles came Mary’s way, she faced them with faith.
15. Once there was a family with three children: two girls named Jerilyn and Heidi, and a boy, named Joseph.
16. They liked to play outside, read books, and have fun.
17. Their mother knew that it was important for them to have fun, but it was also very important for them to learn how to work. They weren’t so sure about that. They really liked to play.
18. Their mother said, “Well, we don’t have a farm, where you could learn to take care of the animals.”
22. The piano was in constant use, it seemed, and this practice time cut into their play time.
23. Sometimes the children weren’t very happy about this. They thought their mother expected too much of them. But she helped them to stick with it, every day. Even when they complained. Especially when they complained.
24. It was hard work to keep practicing. And it was hard for their mother when they weren’t happy. But she still made them practice. And, believe it or not, there was still some time left over to play too.
25. Now the three children are all grown up with families of their own. They can all play the piano so well, that they teach other people how to play.
26. And, when they talk about how hard their mother was on them, and how they learned “combat piano”, she tells them, “I had to be your mom then and expect a lot from you, so that you would become someone I would like to have as a friend now. I like all of you. I love you too.”
30. Annie had a nice house with a kitchen that was fun to use to fix meals for her family.
31. One day, she found out that there was a leaky pipe in her kitchen, and it had been that way for a while. Little by little, the water had ruined her nice kitchen floor. She did not see it until it was too late.
32. She had to tear out her cupboards, and wait until she could have help fixing the leak, and putting everything back together.
33. What could she do? Her family was hungry, and needed food. They couldn’t eat take out for very long!
34. Her visiting teacher brought her family a meal that she fixed in her own kitchen. It was very tasty.
35. Soon her kitchen was all fixed and Annie could make good food in her own home again.
