1. 5 Easy Steps to Make it in the
Music Business by Terry Moorer
Every one dreams of being the next big music
superstar but one of the most difficult industry
to break into is the music business. As
someone with over 25 years in the music
industry with various backgrounds in publicity,
marketing, artist management and music
business consulting. I would like to share my
five easy steps to having a successful music
career and becoming the 2% that makes it!
2. Step 1: Be Consistent
As an aspiring artist, it is easy to get excited the
first week about your career and then the next
week, feeling a little discouraged. The key is
to stay the course everyday. Every day work
just a little on your music career. For example,
make sure you do a little Facebook marketing
or write a song each week.
The little effort will go a long way and you will be
ahead of the 98% crowd
3. Step 2: Learn the Music Business
When I created the membership website, Learn
the Music Business. I did it to help artists who
were struggling with their music careers. The
music industry is a business first and a career
second. Its important to learn about the behind
the scenes players, music industry scams and
the best ways to market yourself. Learn the
business first. It will save your music career.
4. Step 3: Network
You have to make connections in this business in
order to be successful . But you have to make
the right connection. Not every connection is a
good connection. Attend music conferences but
plan who you will network with before you get
there. Be professional and carry business
cards. Make sure you add your new contact to
your Facebook and Linkedin network and most
important, follow up!
5. Step 4: Be Creative
It's important to think out of the box when you
start your marketing plan. Stray away from all
the other artists are doing and come up with
your own ideas. For example. Most artists are
posting their website links on their Facebook or
Twitter page. Do something different. Take
pictures with your fans and ask them to post the
pictures on their page. Let your fans do your
marketing for you.
6. Step 5: Go Social Networking
Crazy
There are over 200 social networking websites
that you can sign up for to promote your music.
It's important to sign up for as many as you
can. You never know how your fans will find
you. One fan might find you on Facebook and
another fan might find your music via your blog.
Make it easy for your fans to find you and
connect with you. If its easy for them, they will
be more inclined to buy your music.
7. Conclusion
Most artist leave a lot of gaps when it comes to
their music career and become frustrated and
eventually give up. Make sure you stay in the
2% by following these five easy steps.
