1. Dos and Don’ts of Hearing Aid Maintenance
Imagine spending a whole day without your sense of hearing. Wouldn’t that be a pretty hard
situation to be in?
From the minute you wake up in the morning, with the help of your trusted alarm clock, to the
moment you turn off your television or radio, before going to bed, your ears are constantly at
work. Even when you sleep, your ears are still functioning. This makes your ear a very important
part of your body.
Now, imagine that you are a hard of hearing person, with hearing aids that’s not functioning very
well? Wouldn’t be that a terrible thought?
Hearing aids plays a major in the life of a hard of hearing person. This device tucked behind or
inside their ear is responsible for amplifying sounds, helping them hear the surroundings a lot
clearer.
What’s great about hearing aids is that they can up from 3 to 5 years when taken good care of.
Here are some dos and don’ts of taking care of your hearing aid:
Do’s:
1. Do avoid humidity and moisture.
2. Do perform listening checks every day.
3. Do clean your hearing aids regularly using a clean dry cloth or tissue.
4. Do check your hearing aids batteries from time to time. It should last for about 1 or 2 weeks.
5. Do remove your hearing aid before applying makeup or hair products.
Don’ts:
1. Don’t use water or any kind of chemicals when cleaning your hearing aid.
2. Do not poke anything into the microphone port.
3. Don’t wear your hearing aids when in steam baths, heavy rain or the shower.
4. Don’t expose your hearing device to extreme heat.
5. Do not store your hearing aid batteries near medications. They can be easily mistaken for tablet.
