About the Festivals/Parties
Festivals/ Regatta:   Long Island Regatta :  (held in mid- May or beginning of June) Watch the boats sail to participate in the Regatta  right out your front window on Long Island, Bahamas! If you have an interest in sailboats the Regatta is for you. The Regatta is a big four day festival event held in Salt Pond where Bahamians build their own single-mastered sail boats by hand and compete in the event. Bands play during the event and rum is served in large quantities. Salt Pond is the main commercial node of Long Island .
Interesting facts about snorkeling and scuba diving .
Snorkeling/Scuba Diving: Long Island has some of the  best dive sites  in the Bahamas.  There has been various diving competitions held at Dean’s Blue Hole in the recent years and free-diving champions from all over the world have been competing.
Best Sites for Scuba Diving: Awawak 'Green' Hole : A bottomless blue hole. Conception Island Wall : A 40 foot wall that extends into darkness. Not a dive for the beginner.  Shark Reef : Want to swim with the sharks? This reef is for you. Ship's Graveyard : If you like to explore sunken ships and an old 1975 Ford van. MV Comerback was a ship that sunk in 1986 Rum Cay Wall: a wall that plunges 40 feet deep.  Many people can scuba certify you, take you on scuba dives, or rent you scuba equipment while visiting Long Island!
Snorkeling in Caves
Snorkeling in caves: With endless coves, caves, lagoons, reefs and wrecks we would have to say Long Island is “THE” place to be when it comes to diving.  Snorkeling sites on Long Island, Bahamas.  Columbus Harbour  - This where Columbus landed. Coral Gardens  - Great to view turtles, caves and corals. Eagle Ray Reef  - Groupers and coral formations. Flamingo Tongue Reef  - Moray eels, craps and tons of fish. Poseidon Poin t - Swim with the tarpon Rainbow Reef  - Elkhorn corals and sponges. Rock Pools -  smaller fish and crabs live in these shallow reefs. Stella Marais Shark Reef  - You can see many different types of sharks here. Watermelon Beach -  a nice easy site
Beaches /Beaching
Beaching: Beaching is by far one of the most popular activities on Long Island because there are a large variety of breathtaking beaches and even one that was listed as one of the top ten most beautiful in the world. Most beaches have fine silky pearl white sand with pristine multi-colored waters.  Beaches found in Long Island: ~Harding's Beach   ~Love's Beach ( a private beach) ~ McCann's Beach - 200 yards wide crescent beach. ~ O‘ Neils (two beaches) - good snorkeling. ~ Hardings Salt Pond Beach

There are many caves on Long Island. It's best to make sure to wear hiking shoes and to bring along plenty of flashlights as well as another one for backup. We can explore Hamilton' Cave . One of the Bahamas  largest cave systems which  is located in Hamilton's. This cave has many passages which are a least 50 feet wide with a ceiling of 10 feet wide. It is one of the largest in the Bahamas. Look for a sign for tours of the cave as you make your way along Queens Hwy in Hamiltons. This is where many Lucayan artifact were discovered in 1935. ~Salt Pond has two caves . One is near Hillside Groceries. Park in this parking lot and walk to the path down the street on the right. The other is in Grotto Bay, it is a beautiful cave but hard to reach without trespassing on private property. The only way to get there is by boat. If you can get to the beach, follow the sign marked cave. ~ Dunmore's Caves:  has 2 tunnels. One tunnel leads to the ocean and had never been fully explored. You can view 2 old Indian drawings on the wall . About Spelumking
Water Sports
Windsurfing, Sailing, Kayaking, Jet Skiing & Other Water Sports: Sailing being the most popular water sport for the locals is enjoyed the most during the annual Long Island Sailing Regatta that happens every year around May and June. Bahamian built sailing sloops throughout the Bahamas come to compete for money and prizes .  While the sailing is going on in the harbor the fiesta is going on  the land at the regatta site. There’s lots of native food, drinks, music and gaming activity going on with thousands of people from all over the Bahamas.   Many resorts have kayaks, jet skis, sail boats and other water gear available for their guest or to rent everyday.
The Bahamas is the  place to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
