Texas students must compete in a global society! The new TA-TEKS identify the requirements students need to succeedin a world that is driven by technology, digital literacy and higher order thinking. In addition to the benefits derived from compliance with the state mandate for technology education, students will benefit from new opportunities to express themselves creatively, engagement will increase and academic achievement will follow. In grades K through 8 the Technology Applications TEKS – a required curriculum for all K-8 Texas students – are taught as an integrated component of all four core content subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies & ELA. The adopted “textbook” for all K-8 students for the Technology Applications TEKS is an online instructional resource, EasyTech from Learning.com. It is the role of the K-8 teacher to integrate the TA-TEKS into the fabric of your classroom. The technology applications curriculum has six strands based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) and performance indicators developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE): creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; research and information fluency; critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making; digital citizenship; and technology operations and concepts.Stay abreast of current technology news, trends upcoming events by following us on Twitter.
Our district provides teachers with multiple devices to implement the Technology Applications TEKS. Most classrooms are equipped with ceiling-mounted projectors, teacher & student computers and document cameras.
Most campuses have other peripheral devices available for use such as: SMART Boards, Interactive devices including eInstruction or Senteo clickers, digital cameras, video cameras, broadcast studios and more. See your campus librarian or dept. chairperson for equipment availability and checkout.Campuses also have Computer Labs for student use. Computer Labs should be used for projects- based assignments. Be sure to incorporate skills outlined in the Technology Applications TEKS. Sign up to take your students to the lab for project-based lessons such as multimedia presentations, word processing, creating charts and graphs, research, etc.
