Web 2.0 is:
the culmination of user uploaded content available to the masses via the internet
from sasha sam and joey - web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the
world wide web. Which is focused on the ability for perople like us to collaborate and share
information onlineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. BOOM.
the next step in bringing people of the world together via the web.
Web 2.0 allows people to share their content with others as well as contributing to other
peoples content.
A system that relys on users content; Anyone can contribute as long as they have access to
the internet.
The concept of everyone having the ability to contribute and distribute over the world wide
web
Defining Web 2.0 – not easy!
‘Web 2.0 is a loosely defined intersection of web application features that
facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered
design,[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site allows users
to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators
(prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to
websites where users (consumers) are limited to the passive viewing of content
that was created for them.
Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing
sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies.’

1. Create a blog post titled ‘Web 2.0’
2. Provide a definition of ‘Web 2.0’
3. Provide a definition of ‘Prosumer’
4. Give examples of Web 2.0 applications, including an explanation
for each of what makes them an example of Web 2.0.
5. Summarise Gauntlett’s ideas about Web 2.0
6. Summarise Wesch’s ideas about the Web
7. If you complete the above, do some research into the future of
web technology.

Web 2.0 is: the culmination of user uploaded content available to the masses via the internet from sasha sam and joey - web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the world wide web. Which is focused on the ability for perople like us to collaborate and share information onlineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. BOOM. the next step in bringing people of the world together via the web. Web 2.0 allows people to share their content with others as well as contributing to other peoples content. A system that relys on users content; Anyone can contribute as long as they have access to the internet. The concept of everyone having the ability to contribute and distribute over the world wide web

Defining Web 2.0 – not easy! ‘Web 2.0 is a loosely defined intersection of web application features that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design,[1] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumers) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them.   • 5. What is needed in order for Web 2.0 to work / What does Web 2.0 rely on? consumers and prosumers access by the masses/ by many /by end user Internet - www, Xml. user uploaded content and updates Internet connection (broadband)Creative people with access to the Internet.
  • 6. The impact of Web 2.0 on: Access Ownership and power Creativity Anything else No central point of power, removal of gatekeepers, copywright can protect things but most things can be accessed. Allows people to speak their minds - more voices. More people can upload their own products. Allows people to be creative in their own unique ways - don't need to follow established media conventions. Allows people to speak their minds. Wider diversity of content accessible
  • 7. Individual task 1. Create a blog post titled ‘Web 2.0’ 2. Provide a definition of ‘Web 2.0’ 3. Provide a definition of ‘Prosumer’ 4. Give examples of Web 2.0 applications, including an explanation for each of what makes them an example of Web 2.0. 5. Summarise Gauntlett’s ideas about Web 2.0 6. Summarise Wesch’s ideas about the Web 7. If you complete the above, do some research into the future of web technology.
