The document discusses the marketing campaign for a film product including a teaser trailer, poster, and magazine. It analyzes the consistency of the font, theme, and branding across the ancillary texts. A blue color and main character were used as consistent visual elements. While the poster and magazine covers were considered strong, establishing a social media presence and hashtag could have helped create more awareness and a fan base for the product.

How Effective is the Combination of Main Product and Ancillary Texts

Question 2
By Luke Johnson
How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
Our teaser trailer, poster and magazine are the three advertising
tools for our marketing campaign.
2. The font of each product
We kept the font very similar and near enough the same in
our teaser trailer and poster. This was a title in our teaser
trailer, it was all in capitals and very large in the centre of the
screen. It had a blue colour and this was created through the
title effect called knockout; it allowed you to add an image in
the background and the titles go the colour of the
background. We made the image a simple blue background
as blue was a theme for our products which we used in all of
them. In our poster the main title of Caught Up is in a similar
font and of the same colour. We wanted to make people
remember the colours of blue throughout our teaser trailer
and they remember it when they see the poster.
3. Theme/Brand
The main theme and brand of our product is the colour of blue and our main character. These
our brand because we wanted something for people to remember, so when they see these
things they instantly recognise that it is our product. They are on our main product and ancillary
texts. By using the same image on both poster and magazine it will become memorable. We
decided to make our magazine on Empire magazine because our real media texts are the films
that are on Empire magazine. Because they are of a similar genre they also have similar
audiences and our films target audience is from 16-24 and they are the most common readers
of Empire magazine.
4. Campaign
One thing we considered when it came to our campaign
was to have a social media profile and create awareness
through social media. This would include creating Twitter,
Facebook and Instagram pages. This would start a fan base
and they could create hype about our product. However we
never actually made this which I think we should have
done. I think that we should have also created a hashtag
which could be on each of our products and if this created a
following it could become a trend and this would create a
larger brand awareness. However I do think that our poster
and magazine covers are very strong and if these were to
be placed around towns like most movies are then they will
be memorable and because we used the same image of
our character people will recognise it, also the title is large
and people may start to remember this and may want to
look into our film more. Then again if they do want to look
into our film more then this is where we should have
created social media pages and maybe a website that has
more information on our film.
