    The Little Red Hen

          By: Jesse Leonard
 There
  once
  was
  a
  farm
  on
  the
  edge

of
  Wheatsville
  .
  On
  that
  farm
  there
  lived

a
  li7le
  red
  hen
  ,
  a
  disgraceful
  duck
  ,
  a

lazy
  cat
  ,
  and
  a
  very
  dumb
  dog.
  One

morning
  on
  the
  farm
  Li7le
  Red
  Hen
  was

on
  her
  way
  to
  the
  town
  she
  dropped
  her

basket
  and
  as
  she
  bent
  down
  to
  pick
  it

up
  she
  saw
  some
  seeds.

  Insert

  Picture
  Here

 When
  the
  li7le
  red
  arrived
  home
  she

announced,
  “Who
  will
  help
  me
  plant

these
  seeds?”

  “Not
  I!”
  Groaned
  the
  duck.

  “Not
  I!”
  Moaned
  the
  cat.

  “Not
  I
  !
  Snarled
  the
  dog.

  2

“Then
  I
  will.”
  And
  she
  did
  .
  So
  she

planted
  the
  seeds
  and
  she
  watered
  the

li7le
  plant
  every
  day,
  and
  aPer
  one

week
  she
  had
  tons
  and
  tons
  of
  wheat
  in

her
  li7le
  garden
  .
  The
  li7le
  red
  hen
  was

so
  happy
  she
  had
  found
  those
  seeds.

APer
  awhile
  she
  was
  thinking
  of
  taking

the
  wheat
  to
  the
  town
  to
  be
  made
  into

bread.
  But
  then
  she
  had
  thought
  that
  no

one
  would
  go
  to
  the
  town
  with
  her
  then

she
  felt
  sad
  that
  no
  one
  at
  the
  barn
  was

being
  nice
  to
  her.

  3

So
  she
  cut
  the
  wheat
  ,and
  put
  it
  into
  a

bag
  and
  exclaimed,
  “Who
  will
  help
  me

take
  this
  bag
  of
  wheat
  to
  the
  market
  to

have
  it
  made
  into
  bread
  ?”

  “Not
  I!”
  Barked
  the
  dog.

  “Not
  I!”
  Meowed
  the
  cat.

  “I
  Will!”
  Quaked
  the
  duck.

  “ That
  is
  very
  nice
  duck
  lets
  go!”

So
  they
  set
  off
  for
  the
  town
  and
  when

they
  got
  there
  they
  gave
  the
  bread
  to

the
  baker
  he
  made
  it
  into
  bread
  and
  ate

it
  all.
