Stimulate collaboration between public service staff, students, pupils, entrepreneurs and communities to develop collaborative researchWork with the next generation for whom many of the new ways of researching & designing services they don’t see as R&D methods but what come naturally to themAlthough at one workshop we worked with an intergenerational art group, one of the grandmother’s there was sketching ideas with her iPad, which I’ve never used, so sometimes the next generation is where you least expect it
Thanks to technology, more people are creating content and collaborating online in ways that weren’t possible before. But transformation in society doesn’t happen when it adopts new tools, it happens when it adopts new behaviours. Many young people have grown up adopting these behaviours to interact with people, solve problems and get things done. What has this got to do with local government? While it is essential that we use technology to tackle issues, it’s just as important that we involve the people we serve in this process. Working with Kent Connects, a partnership of public services across Kent, we developed Transformed by You, a programme, which works with entrepreneurs, local groups and students to research & design solutions to local challenges. This year, we’re focusing on how the use of technology can help people help each other how it can help people keep fit and stay healthy, concluding with an event on 23rd November where people are invited to come up with solutions to these challenges.
