2. What does it mean?
Juxtaposition is a term used in photography, it is used
when a picture can feature something that has an opposite
of what you see in the photo.
An example would be of a modern skyscraper compared to
an old cottage. The old versus new is the main opposite in
the photo.
3. Elements of juxtaposition
Age, height, colour, peace and war, love and hate, thick
and thin, fat and skinny, rich and poor, new and old, big
and small, nature versus manmade.
Law can also be one too, rules such as no smoking can be
contradicted with a photo of somebody smoking in a no
smoking zone.
4. Other photographers
• This is an image by July Cobo.
• The image features an old Chinese
monument next to a new age
industrial building.
• I think that the message behind this
photo is how times and methods of
construction have changed. Also it
shows how Chinese structures and
China have developed over the
centuries.
5. My photography
• Photo one shows juxtaposition
between colors and
makes/models of cars.
• Photo two shows a photo of a
person smoking in a no smoking
zone.
• Photo three is of two buttons that
contradict each other, open and
close.
