LSC BASEBALL
Texas A&M-Kingsville leads the Lone Star Conference standings at 10-2 with three weeks of league play
remaining. The Javelinas swept Eastern New Mexico last week to move into first place.
This week’s league series include TAMUK at UT Permian Basin, Tarleton State at West Texas A&M, and
Angelo State at ENMU.
LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks
8-14 determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league
standings. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and
9-inning contest Sunday.
LSC baseball teams are 162-103 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are
currently 32-13 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 7-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Kohl Ullman, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, R-FR, INF, Houston, Texas, St. Pius
Arguably the biggest surprise of the season, Ullman has stepped into the leadoff spot and 2B after an injury
to starter Joshua Croft... the redshirt freshman went 7-of-13 with four doubles, six runs scored, five walks and
two stolen bases in the series sweep of Eastern New Mexico... he began the series with a 1-for-3 (three walks)
performance at the plate with two runs scored... the following day, he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two
doubles in game one and 2-for-4 in game two... on Saturday, Ullman was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
PITCHER
Matt Shannon, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, Pleasanton, Texas, Pleasanton HS
Shannon was his usual dominant self in ASU’s game one 6-0 win against Texas A&M International, pitching a
complete game shutout to start Friday’s doubleheader. Shannon went the full seven innings, marking his fifth
straight start of seven or more innings, and scattered just three hits in that time. The junior did not walk a batter
all day and held the Dustdevils to just a .136 batting average while striking out four in the appearance.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Stacy Heinatz, Tarleton State University, had arguably the biggest hit of the weekend when the junior
infielder stepped off the bench and delivered a two-out, bases-clearing double to spark an eight-run rally in
the bottom of the sixth that ultimately led Tarleton to a four-game sweep of UTPB. Heinatz went 4-for-6 on the
weekend with five RBI and three runs scored.
Cody Knight, Cameron University, in a shortened series against No. 16 West Texas A&M, provided plenty
of pop as the Aggies split a doubleheader with the Buffs on Saturday. Knight was 3-7, but two of his hits were
home runs. In game one, Knight sparked a CU comeback by hitting a two run homer to left field off of WT’s
ace pitcher Marshall Kasowski. In game two, Knight had two hits and two more RBI, with his first coming in the
opening inning as he drove in a run on a single to left. He then tried to spark another late comeback with a
monster solo home run over the scoreboard in left field. Knight is now batting .345 with three homers and 27
RBI on the season.
Steven Pinales, Angelo State University, hit the ball all over the yard during the Rams’ three-game sweep of
Texas A&M International over the weekend, going 4-for-10 with a pair of walks. Three of the senior’s hits went
for extra bases as he doubled, tripled and homered against the Dustdevils. The triple pushed his season total
to six, which leads the conference. Overall, Pinales collected a team-leading 10 total bases on the weekend,
slugging an even 1.000 and helping the Rams to three more wins.
Adam Adkins, West Texas A&M University, hit .375 for the doubleheader against Cameron this week in the
weather-shortened series. Adkins drove in four runs, scored once and hit a home run, while reaching base at
a .444 clip and slugging a team-high .750. He had five putouts with no errors in the outfield. Adkins has had a
hit in each of the last eight games and reached base in the last 11.
Matt Herrick, Tarleton State University, gave Tarleton a big lift out of the bullpen in Saturday’s finale against
UTPB as the junior right-hander threw 2.1 innings of relief and struck out five to earn his third win of the
season.
Joshua Payne, West Texas A&M University, sparked the Buffs to a 7-4 win in the nightcap of a weather-
shortened series at Cameron as he earned the start and win, going 7.1 innings, allowing eight hits, four earned
runs and fanned five with no walks. It was his seventh win of the season tying him for the team-lead.
NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s)
Angelo State
The Rams went 3-0 on the weekend in a nonconference series against Texas A&M International. Steven Pinales
hit the ball all over the yard during the Rams’ three-game sweep of TAMIU over the weekend, going 4-for-10
with a pair of walks. Three of the senior’s hits went for extra bases as he doubled, tripled and homered against
the Dustdevils. The triple pushed his season total to six, which leads the conference. Overall, Pinales collected a
team-leading 10 total bases on the weekend, slugging an even 1.000 and helping the Rams to three more wins.
Matt Shannon was his usual dominant self in ASU’s game one 6-0 win against Texas A&M International, pitching
a complete game shutout to start Friday’s doubleheader. Shannon went the full seven innings, marking his fifth

Cameron
CU’s series with No. 16 West Texas was shortened to just two games due to rain late in the week. Cameron was
able to split with the Buffs, taking game one 6-5 and then falling in game two 7-4. In game one, the Aggies fell
behind 4-0 early, but a two run homer from Cody Knight and a two RBI double from Cole Williams after another
run from WT helped cut the Buff lead to just one run. Cody Bower then hit a two run homer of his own in the
seventh to get the walk-off win. In game two, CU started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning, but WT’s
offense surged as they scored five straight on their way to the 7-4 win.
Eastern New Mexico

LSC Baseball Weekly Release (04/18/17)

  • 1. LSC BASEBALL Texas A&M-Kingsville leads the Lone Star Conference standings at 10-2 with three weeks of league play remaining. The Javelinas swept Eastern New Mexico last week to move into first place. This week’s league series include TAMUK at UT Permian Basin, Tarleton State at West Texas A&M, and Angelo State at ENMU. LSC teams are playing a 10-week schedule with a four-game series against every other team during weeks 8-14 determining the LSC Champion. Conference series scheduled weeks 5-7 will not count toward the league standings. Each four-game series shall consist of a 9-inning game Friday, a 7x7 doubleheader Saturday and 9-inning contest Sunday. LSC baseball teams are 162-103 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the teams are currently 32-13 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 7-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK HITTER Kohl Ullman, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, R-FR, INF, Houston, Texas, St. Pius Arguably the biggest surprise of the season, Ullman has stepped into the leadoff spot and 2B after an injury to starter Joshua Croft... the redshirt freshman went 7-of-13 with four doubles, six runs scored, five walks and two stolen bases in the series sweep of Eastern New Mexico... he began the series with a 1-for-3 (three walks) performance at the plate with two runs scored... the following day, he went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles in game one and 2-for-4 in game two... on Saturday, Ullman was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. PITCHER Matt Shannon, Angelo State University, JR, Pitcher, Pleasanton, Texas, Pleasanton HS Shannon was his usual dominant self in ASU’s game one 6-0 win against Texas A&M International, pitching a complete game shutout to start Friday’s doubleheader. Shannon went the full seven innings, marking his fifth straight start of seven or more innings, and scattered just three hits in that time. The junior did not walk a batter all day and held the Dustdevils to just a .136 batting average while striking out four in the appearance. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Stacy Heinatz, Tarleton State University, had arguably the biggest hit of the weekend when the junior infielder stepped off the bench and delivered a two-out, bases-clearing double to spark an eight-run rally in the bottom of the sixth that ultimately led Tarleton to a four-game sweep of UTPB. Heinatz went 4-for-6 on the weekend with five RBI and three runs scored. Cody Knight, Cameron University, in a shortened series against No. 16 West Texas A&M, provided plenty of pop as the Aggies split a doubleheader with the Buffs on Saturday. Knight was 3-7, but two of his hits were home runs. In game one, Knight sparked a CU comeback by hitting a two run homer to left field off of WT’s ace pitcher Marshall Kasowski. In game two, Knight had two hits and two more RBI, with his first coming in the opening inning as he drove in a run on a single to left. He then tried to spark another late comeback with a monster solo home run over the scoreboard in left field. Knight is now batting .345 with three homers and 27 RBI on the season. Steven Pinales, Angelo State University, hit the ball all over the yard during the Rams’ three-game sweep of Texas A&M International over the weekend, going 4-for-10 with a pair of walks. Three of the senior’s hits went for extra bases as he doubled, tripled and homered against the Dustdevils. The triple pushed his season total to six, which leads the conference. Overall, Pinales collected a team-leading 10 total bases on the weekend, slugging an even 1.000 and helping the Rams to three more wins. Adam Adkins, West Texas A&M University, hit .375 for the doubleheader against Cameron this week in the weather-shortened series. Adkins drove in four runs, scored once and hit a home run, while reaching base at a .444 clip and slugging a team-high .750. He had five putouts with no errors in the outfield.
