LSC VOLLEYBALL
The Lone Star Conference volleyball season is underway with all 11 teams taking part in tournament play on
the opening weekend. Angelo State, Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville are each 4-0 after one week.
LSC volleyball teams are 30-15 overall this season. The squads are currently 8-2 combined versus Rocky
Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 8-1 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues
in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Hailey Roberts, Tarleton State University, JR, Cedar Park, Texas, Cedar Park HS
The reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year and AVCA All-American, Hailey Roberts, went back to work in a
big way last weekend as the junior outside hitter blasted 66 kills (5.08 per set) in four quick matches â including
three sweeps â to lead Tarleton to a 4-0 start to the season. Roberts opened her season with a record-setting
performance as she landed 14 kills with no errors for a .636 hitting percentage in a sweep of St. Maryâs. The 14
kills were the most in a single match by a TexAnn without making an error. She followed up with her first 20-kill
performance of the season by landing 23 kills against Regis Friday. With double-digit kills in each of the first
four matches, Roberts improves her current streak to 45 consecutive matches of 10 or more kills dating back
Nov. 1, 2014. In addition to the offensive work, Roberts recorded double-digit digs in three of the four outings
for her first three double-doubles of the year, including a season-high 17 digs against St. Edwardâs Saturday. She
also landed nine service aces and totaled 79.0 points en route to leading Tarleton to its best start to a season
in 30 years and being named to the Kathleen Brasfield All-Tournament Team for the third consecutive season.
DEFENSIVE
Ashley Mireles, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Georgetown, Texas, Georgetown HS
Mireles leads the LSC in digs following the opening weekend of action in the league... At 105 digs, she is one of
only two players over 80 digs and her 6.18 digs per set leads the league... Her 37 digs in the five-set win over
Newman also includes 8 digs in the first and fifth sets and 9 digs in the second set... She had 10 digs in the first
set against Harding.
SETTER
Meghan Parker, Angelo State University, FR, San Antonio, Texas, Johnson HS
Masterfully distributing the ball for ASU, Parker accumulated a team high 159 assists over the Belles four
matches. The freshman averaged a Lone Star Conference leading 12.23 assist per set. The setter was also a
force to be reckoned with from the service line firing a LSC and team high 12 service aces. Defensively, the San
Antonio native is second on the squad with 39 total digs. She currently leads the Belles with trifecta of double-
double performances.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Lauren Frye, Eastern New Mexico University, had 15-plus kills in all four matches this weekend at the WTAMU
Lady Buff Classic, helping the Greyhounds to a 3-1 record...had two matches with 20 kills and hit .600 in the
win against Southwestern Oklahoma State...scored four of the teamâs final eight points in the fourth set of the
come-from-behind victory over Adams State on Friday
Jenna Gillean, Cameron University, the 2015 LSC Freshman of the Year continued her stellar player in her
sophomore season after recording 68 kills and hitting .351 in four games for the Aggies. The outside hitter from
Midland, Texas broke her personal best twice with 21 kills on Friday against Southern Arkansas and bested that
number by one on Saturday against East Central. In 17 sets played, Gillean averaged four kills per set, and
recorded ten total blocks. Against Southern Arkansas, she dropped down 11 kills before committing an error
and hit .375 in the four set win. On Saturday against New Mexico Highlands, Gillean was flawless through three
sets with 13 kills and no errors. In set three, she batted down seven kills on nine swings to hit .778.
Mallory Blauser, Angelo State University, played a major role in the Belles offensive success this week. The

senior leader tallied 46 total kills for a .306 clip and
an average of 3.54 kills per set during the Kathleen
Brasfield Invitational. This included a double-double
during the first match of the season where she racked
up 11 kills and 11 digs. The Round Rock native also
had 11 total blocks tying her for a team most.
Taryn Driver, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
ranks 6th in the conference in kills/set after the
opening week of play and is one of 4 players with over
60 kills... She hit .417 with a season-best 17 kills in the
loss to Harding...
Heather Verrill, Western New Mexico, had a big
start to the season as she was named to the Point
Loma Seaside Invitational All-Tournament Team after
she led the team with 50 kills in the four matches,
averaging 3.57 kills per set and hit .443. She also
added 11 digs and 10 blocks, with one coming solo.
She went for double-digits in kills in three of four
matches, going for a high of 16 in a 3-1 win against
Chadron State when she hit .652. She even topped
that number ripping off a .706 hitting clip later that
day in a sweep against Point Loma as she recorded
13 kills. Verrill contributed points all over the court
to help pace the Lady Mustangs as she collected 55.5
points in the four matches, going for a high of 18.5
against Chadron State. She added a 14.5 effort against
Cal Baptist and a 13.0 mark versus Point Loma. She
closed the week with eight kills and a block against
Concordia Irvine. Her totals for the five matches
includes 58 kills, 3.41 per set, .366 hitting percentage,
11 digs, 11 blocks and 64 total points.
Anna McGee, Texas Womanâs University, led Texas
Womanâs in kills during her Pioneer debut while
hitting .319 and tallying five service aces, five blocks
and 11 digs.
Alexis Wick, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, in
her first collegiate match since 2014, she was in
midseason form, beginning the season with 13 kills,
four service aces and three blocks against Southwest
Baptist... in the second match Friday verses Saint
Josephâs, she tallied eight total blocks... the following
day featured similar results as she collected 13 kills
against Barton, hitting .524 percent and adding
six blocks and concluded the Christian Brothers
Invitational against Arkansas Tech with seven kills
and four blocks...Wick led the club hitting .469, which
ranks second in the LSC and 21 total blocks including
six solo blocks. the Javelinas went 4-0 to begin the
season.
Adrianna Knutson, Tarleton State University,
wasted no time in adjusting to her new role as the
teamâs libero. The sophomore from San Antonio
recorded 68 total digs in 13 sets led Tarleton to three
sweeps in four victories at the Kathleen Brasfield
Invitational. Knutson posted her second career 20-
dig performance with 21 total digs against South
Dakota Mines. She also totaled 12 assists and one
service ace. Knutson anchored the Tarleton defense
that held opponents to just a .128 hitting percentage
for the weekend. Of the 13 sets played, Tarleton held
opponents to less than a .100 hitting clip in four sets
â including a (-).056 hitting percentage by St. Maryâs
in the matchâs final set.
Andrea Aguilar, Eastern New Mexico University,
helped the team to a 3-1 record at the WTAMU
Lady Buff Classic...posted at least 16 digs in all four
matches, including 21 in the season opener against
Northern Michigan
Micheala Sifuentes, Angelo State University, was a
rock for the Belles defense as she tallied a team high
51 digs in the Belles four matches this week. Marking
three of four matches with double-digit digs, she
averaged 3.92 digs per set. She also aided the offense
with four service aces.
Sara Oxford, Texas Womanâs University, led Texas
Womanâs in blocks in three matches and twice in
kills at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic. The senior also
recorded 18 total blocks and 45 digs.
Elisa Bentsen, West Texas A&M University, had a
big opening weekend for the Lady Buffs as the senior
middle from Hesperia, California was named to the
All-Tournament Team for the BritKare Lady Buff
Classic. Bentsen registered 31 kills on 71 swings to
hit .271 on the weekend to go along with eight digs,
three service aces and an impressive 24 total blocks
(3 solo, 21 assisted) to average 1.60 per set.
Shannon Rich, Western New Mexico, led the block
party for WNMU with 19 (1.12 per set) to start the
season, including three solo. She also added 35 kills
(219 per set), two assists, three service aces and
four digs. Rich had at least four blocks in four of
the matches with a high of five coming against both
CSU Dominguez Hills and Chadron State. She posted
12 kills against Chadron State and hit .500 and had
at least five kills in every match. Rich contributed
double-digit point marks against both Chadron State
(15) and Cal Baptist (13). Her .394 hitting percentage
also leads the team.
HaleyHutchinson,TexasA&MUniversity-Kingsville,
started her sophomore campaign right where she
left off last season. The middle from Georgetown,
Texas totaled 13 blocks and zero reception errors
in the opening weekend at the Christian Brothers
Invitational. Hutchinsonsâ 13 stuffs places her eighth
in the LSC and played a key role in holding their
opponents to hitting .117 and 9.29 kills per set, the
fewest in the Lone Star Conference.
Mary Kate Hyde, Texas Womanâs University,
registered game-highs in assists in wins over CSU-
Pueblo and Newman at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic.
The junior also recorded seven service aces and 69
digs.
Jordyn Keamo, Tarleton State University, made a
big impression to the Tarleton faithful at the Kathleen
Brasfield Invitational. The new Tarleton setter
recorded 139 assists in four games while leading
Tarleton to a .244 team hitting percentage in the first
four games of the year. Keamo, a native of Hawaii,
topped the 40-assist plateau twice in the opening
weekend after going for 44 assists against Regis and
40 against St. Edwardâs. She also had her first two
career double-doubles against Regis and St. Edwardâs
with 14 and 16 digs, respectively. Keamo also added
nine kills, three blocks, and 11 service aces â including
five against South Dakota Mines.
Casey Klobedans, Texas A&M University-Kingsville,
the 2016 Preseason Setter of the Year came out strong
recording her first double-double with 42 assists and
13 digs in the Javelinas first match against Southwest
Baptist at the Christian Brothers Invitational. She
ended the weekend with two double-doubles after
recording her second on day two against Barton
College (45 assists, 16 digs). Klobedans ranks fourth
in the LSC with 10.14 assists per set and she finished
opening weekend with only one ball handling error.
The junior paced the way for the Hogs leading them
to a hitting percentage of .265 ranking second in the
conference.
Alexis Aguirre, Eastern New Mexico University,
dished out 125 assists this weekend at the WTAMU
Lady Buff Classic, including 42 in the season opener
against Northern Michigan
Melanie Hughes, Western New Mexico, paced the
Lady Mustang offense to start the season leading
the team with 83 assists (4.88 per set), while adding
a team-best 11 service aces, 28 digs and two kills.
She had at least 10 assists in all five matches, with a
high of 27 coming in the 3-1 win over Chadron State.
Hughes also had her high in digs in that same match
with nine and in service aces with five.

Angelo State
The Belles had a solid start to its 2016 campaign
this past week. Angelo State came away from the
Kathleen Brasfield Invitational with a 4-0 record. The
team also swept three of its four match-ups. The ASU
attack was led by Mallory Blauser, Brianna Sotello and
Abbie Lynn. Blauser tallied 46 total kills for a .306 clip
and an average of 3.54 kills per set. Sotello racked
up a pair of double-doubles over the four matches
and tallied 43 kills and 37 digs for the weekend. Lynn
came away with a team third 37 kills for a .356 clip.
Freshman Meghan Parker made her debut recording
at least 36 assist in each of the four matches with
a high of 44 assists against Regis. Finally, leading
the defensive efforts for Angelo State was Micheala
Sifuentes and Leiyona Young. Sifuentes tallied a team
leading 51 digs, an average 3.92 digs per set, while
Young recorded 11 total blocks for a share of the
team high.

Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds went 3-1 at the West Texas A&M
Lady Buff Classic, defeating McKendree, Adams State
and Southwestern Oklahoma State while falling in
five sets to Northern Michigan
Midwestern State
Midwestern State posted a 1-3 record at the season-
opening Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kan. The
Mustangs won the opener against Pittsburg State
(3-1) before dropping matches to No. 16 Washburn
(3-0), Emporia State (3-2) and Missouri Western (3-0).
The Mustangs host the 16-match MSU Hampton Inn-
vitational Friday and Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Tarleton State
Tarleton sweptitsfourgamesattheKathleenBrasfield
Invitational and the TexAnn volleyball team is off to its
best start to a season in 30 years. With three sweeps
in the first four matches of the season, Tarleton won
12 of the 13 sets played so far this season. It marks
the first time since 1986 that Tarleton opened the
season with just one set loss in the first four matches.
The 1986 team, which started 5-0, won their first
match 2-1 before reeling off four straight sweeps of
3-0, 2-0, 2-0, and 2-0. The TexAnnsâ 4-0 start is the
second consecutive four-game perfect opening to
a season and just the third time since 2000 to start
with four straight wins. Tarleton will host the TexAnn
Invitational this weekend, beginning with a Thursday
night match against Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions picked up three
wins at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic hosted by Texas
Womanâs last weekend⌠The Lions defeated Colorado
State-Pueblo, Lubbock Christian and Newman before
dropping a match to Harding⌠The Lions won their
first three matches of the season for the first time
since 2013⌠in a 3-1 win over CSU Pueblo, Taryn
Driver hit .268 with 15 kills, Daisge Smith had a
double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs, Rylie Fuentes
had a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs.
Ashley Mireles had 21 digs and Sydney Reyes had five
blocks to go with nine kills⌠In a 3-1 win over Lubbock
Christian, Driver once again led the squad in kills with
15, hitting .270 in the match⌠Reyes had 11 kills with
a .474 hitting percentage and also put up six blocks,
including two solos⌠Jaslyn Wacker had nine kills
and eight blocks with three solos⌠Mireles had 22
digs. Setters Fuentes and Gabriela Rosa each passed
out 21 assists⌠On Saturday in a five-set win over
Newman, Layne Little led three Lions in double-digit
kills with 17 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while
Driver added 13 kills and Daisge Smith had a double-
double with 12 kills and 14 digs⌠The Lions put up 16
blocks in the marathon match, led by Sydney Reyes
with eight stops⌠In the 3-1 loss to Harding, the Lions
were led by 17 kills on a .417 percentage by Driver,
Reyes had 10 kills and five blocks, Mireles had 25 digs,
followed by Smith with 22 digs, and Fuentes had a
double-double with 25 assists and 16 digs⌠The Lions
play at the Tarleton Invitational this weekend against
Arkansas-Monticello, Central Oklahoma, Colorado
Christian, and Colorado Mesa⌠A&M-Commerce
then travels to Dallas Baptist on Monday, September

Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville is in good company early this
season as they are one of the three unbeatens in the
LSC along with Angelo State and Tarleton State. At the
Christian Brothers Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. the
Hogs showed incredible balance as they hit .265 and
held their opponents to a hitting percentage of .117
and 9.29 kills per set. This week, the Javelinas will
take on St. Maryâs University in their home opener on
Tuesday, September 6 and will head to Pueblo, Colo.
this weekend to participate in the CSU-Pueblo Steel
and Silver Classic.

West Texas A&M
West Texas A&M began its season with a 2-2 showing
during the annual BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon
with wins over Northern Michigan and McKendree
while falling to Adams State and Southwestern
Oklahoma State. The Lady Buffs were led by All-
Tournament selection Elisa Bentsen who registered
31 kills on 70 swings to hit .271 on the weekend to go
along with 24 total blocks to average 1.60 per set. WT
makes their first road trip of the season this weekend
as they head to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2016
UINdy Invitational with matchups scheduled against
North Alabama, Ashland, Lock Haven and the host
Greyhounds at the Ruth Lilley Center.
Western New Mexico
The Lady Mustangs are off to a strong start to the
2016 season going 3-2 in California, including a 3-1
mark in the Point Loma Seaside Invitational. WNMU
picked up 3-0 wins against both CSU Dominguez
Hills and Point Loma, along with an in-region 3-1
victory over Chadron State. The only two losses were
against a pair of teams that were receiving votes in
the Preseason AVCA Poll in Cal Baptist and Concordia
(CA). Heather Verrill was named to the Seaside All-
Tournament team after leading the Lady Mustangs
with 50 kills and now has 58 through five matches. Six
players already have double-digit kills, with Morgan
Lyneis and Shannon Rich is next on the list tied
with 35 apiece. Rich (.394), Verrill (.366) and Kalie
Lyle (.365) are all off to strong hitting percentages.
Melanie Hughes leads in assists with 83, followed by
69 from Cristal Carrizoza. Hughes has also spun in a
team-best 11 service aces. Ashley Mataele has nearly
a third of the teamâs digs with 60. Rich leads the
team in blocks with 19, while Samantha Haupeakui
adds 12 and Verrill with 11. Verrill (64) and Rich (49)
are the top-two point producers to start the season.
WNMU remains on the road this week to play in the
Westminster Invitational in Salt Lake City against
Minot State, Fort Hays State, Texas A&M International
and Westminster.
