LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State is the only unbeaten Lone Star Conference women’s basketball team, with five teams - Texas
Woman’s, Texas A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M, Western New Mexico, and Texas A&M-Kingsville with just
one loss.
The LSC women are 23-18 overall. The women’s squads are currently 10-7 combined against the Heartland,
and 6-7 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, SR, Guard, Fort Worth, Texas, Dunbar HS
Dorsey led the Belles with her first 20-point game of the season in the win over Texas A&M International. She
scored shot 56.3-percent from the field and dished out three assists and grabbed five rebounds in 25 minutes.
The senior also hit two 3-pointers.
DEFENSIVE
Madison Parker, West Texas A&M University, JR, Guard, Amarillo, Texas, Canyon HS
Parker had an outstanding game defensively for the Lady Buffs as she tallied a career-high 11 rebounds in
the Lady Buffs’ 61-36 win over St. Edward’s Friday. Parker went 2 of 5 from the field and 3 of 4 from the
line, recording three offensive rebounds and eight on the defensive end for her second game in double figure
rebounds in her WT career. Parker helped lead the Lady Buffs to hold SEU to a season-low 22 percent shooting
and held SEU’s duo of Shakera Barnes (17 points per game) and Khiani Clark (9.7 rebounds per game) to just
seven points and one rebound, respectively. It also was the second time this season WT has held a team under
50 points and third time under 60 points.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Bailey Wipff, Tarleton State University, led the way offensively for Tarleton at the Al Kaly Shrine Classic in
Pueblo, Colorado last weekend as the senior guard averaged 14.0 points per game to lead the TexAnns to
their first win of the season against Western State. Wipff shot .458 from the floor, including a .636 clip against
the Mountaineers on Friday, en route to back-to-back double-digit scoring performances. Wipff added four
rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals for the weekend.
Emily Spector, Texas Woman’s University, was named to the 2016 Best Western Premiere Pioneer Classic All-
Tournament Team after scoring in double-digits against Newman and UC-Colorado Springs. The senior forward
capped the tournament with a game-high 17 points versus UCCS in a 70-66 TWU win where she tallied 10
points in a decisive run during the second quarter to give the Pioneers a 30-21 advantage. Throughout the two
games, Spector shot 56-percent from the field, including a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc and posted
eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kassandra Harris, Eastern New Mexico University, shot .667 from the floor and scored 13 points for Eastern
at Wayland Baptist last Friday. She was the Greyhounds’ top scorer and had one third of the team’s field goals
in the game with a six-for-nine shooting performance. Harris also fueled Eastern’s transition game with three
steals and a blocked shot.
Lexy Hightower, West Texas A&M University, sparked the Lady Buffs off the bench in a 61-36 win over St.
Edward’s on Friday as she was a career-best 5 of 7 from the field (.714) with two triples (2-2), three rebounds,
three assists, two blocks and one steal. Hightower was the Lone Lady Buff in double figures. All of her points
came in the first half as the Lady Buffs led 33-16 at intermission. It was her best game of her young career.
Khala Riley, Texas A&M University - Commerce, averaged nearly a double-double for A&M-Commerce in
their two home wins last week. She averaged 9.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, including averaging four offensive
rebounds per game. She also averaged 4.5 assists, leading the Lions in assists. She shot 42 percent from the
field and 75 percent from the free throw line. The team outscored their opponents by double-digits in both
games, with a scoring differential of 15 points. Riley also had a strong presence on the defensive end. She had
four steals and a block. The team held opponents to 62.5 points a game and averaged 17 takeaways in their two
games.
Chenelle Pelle, Angelo State University, anchored a Belle defense that limited Texas A&M International to
just 45 points including only seven points in the third quarter. The junior scored a season high 11 points and
grabbed a season high seven rebounds. Four of her rebounds came on the defense and she added a block on
the defensive end. The defensive help was able to force TAMIU to only hit 35.3-percent from the field.
Alexis Nezianya, Texas Woman’s University, pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds against Newman in the
2016 Best Western Premiere Pioneer Classic Friday, nearly posting a double-double with eight points. The
junior forward concluded the weekend with averages of 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and one block.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, led the way defensively for the TexAnns as the sophomore
forward led the team with 13 rebounds, five blocks, and five steals. In Tarleton’s first win of the season against
Western State, Hailey grabbed six rebounds and three steals to go along with four blocks as Tarleton held a
team below 40 points for the fourth time in the last six seasons. It was also the first time Tarleton held a team
below 40 points away from Stephenville for the first time since 2008.
Daeshi McCants, Eastern New Mexico University, with four blocked shots, a steal, and five defensive
rebounds was ENMU’s top defensive performer at Wayland Baptist. She had either a steal or blocked shot in
each quarter and helped the Greyhounds rally from a 14-point deficit to within a single point. McCants also

Jenna Price, Texas A&M University - Commerce, was the Swiss Army knife of the Lion defense in their two
wins last week. She took on multiple roles on the defensive end for A&M-Commerce. She had three steals and
a block in 31 combined minutes. She was called upon to guard the perimeter down the stretch for the Lions,
matching up with guards and forwards and switching on screens. She helped the Lions hold opponents to 62.5
points per game and a shooting percentage of 35.3 percent. The Lions also caused 34 turnovers in their two
games. They outscored their opponents by 17 points in the fourth quarter and Price was a large contributor
in fourth quarter scoring differential. Price also had the best offensive output of her young college career. She
averaged 7.5 points, two assists and 3.5 rebounds. She shot 43 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind
the 3-point line and 88 percent from the free throw line.

Angelo State
The Belles opened the season with a 82-45 win over Texas A&M International. ASU held TAMIU to just 45 points
on 35.3-percent shooting. Taylor Dorsey scored her first 20 point game of the season while Chenelle Pelle led
the team with seven rebounds. ASU hit 49.3-percent from the field and all 11 players were able to score. ASU
will play in the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic this Friday and Saturday.

Eastern New Mexico
Last Friday, the Greyhound women’s basketball team faced a 14-point deficit at Wayland Baptist. The
Greyhounds capped a 18-5 run with a fourth-quarter jumper from Daeshi McCants to close within a single
point, 46-45. Kassandra Harris finished with a team-best 13 points and three steals, but the Flying Queens
pulled away for a 63-49 win at the Hutcherson Center. Eastern held a slim 16-15 edge in points off turnovers
and a 13-9 lead in second chance points, despite being outrebounded 41-36. McCants finished with nine points,
six rebounds, four blocks and a steal, while Brandi Gomez added six points for the Hounds, while Amari Dennis
chipped in five points. The Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team will return to action on
Tuesday, to host cross-state rival, New Mexico Highlands. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.

Tarleton State
Tarleton defeated Western State Friday for its first win of the season before taking Colorado State-Pueblo
down to the wire in Saturday’s tournament finale. The TexAnns will head to San Antonio for a pre-Thanksgiving
rematch against St. Mary’s.
Texas A&M-Commerce

University on Wednesday and a 68-56 come-from-behind win over St. Edward’s University on Sunday. They
held opponents to 35 percent field goal percentage and a scoring average of 62.5 points per game. They had
a scoring differential of 15 points per game and outscored their opponents by 8.5 points in both the first and
fourth quarters. A&M-Commerce shot 41 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. The
Lions lead the conference in offensive rebounds and are second in the conference in total rebound average.
The team is third in the conference in scoring average. Brianna Wise is fourth in the conference in scoring,
averaging 12.8 points per game. Artaejah Gay is second in the conference in blocks, averaging 1.3 per game.
The Lions have two road games in the coming week. They face Ouachita Baptist University on Wednesday and
Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Sunday. They will then open up their conference schedule on Dec.
1 against Cameron.”

Texas Woman’s
TWU opened the 2016 Best Western Premiere Pioneer Classic with a 69-58 loss to Newman Saturday but
rebounded with a 70-66 win over UC-Colorado Springs to close out the tournament.
UT Permian Basin
UTPB women’s basketball dropped a pair of contests against two former conference foes, losing 73-53 to St.
Mary’s and 61-37 to the defending champions Lubbock Christian. The Falcons played the #11 Lady Chaps tight,
staying within a possession throughout most of the second quarter to trail by three at halftime. Niva Taito led
the Falcons with 12.5 ppg on the weekend.
West Texas A&M
The #3-ranked Lady Buffs took a 61-36 win on Friday evening in the 2016-17 home-opener at the First United
Bank Center...It was the second time this season the Lady Buffs have held the opposition to under 50 points
and first under 40 points, while the third under 60 points...Freshman Lexy Hightower sparked the Lady Buffs
with 12 points off the bench on 5 of 7 from the field and 2 of 2 from beyond the arc...All 12 of her points came
in the first half as the Lady Buffs held a 33-16 lead at intermission marking the second time this season WT
has held the opposition under 20 points in the first half...WT also lowered its turnover margin to a season-low
12 miscues as it averaged over 21 in the first three games of the season...WT shot a season-best 54.3 percent
for the game on 25 of 46 and was 6 of 15 from beyond the arc (.400)...WT was a season-low 5 of 8 from the
