Creating a wiki assignment in moodle course basic settings

After logging in to Moodle, click on the course in which you want to create a Wiki assignment.
In this case, click on Demo Course.

Then click on the Turn editing on button at the top right corner to switch to the editing mode.

After turning on the editing mode, under Topic outline (or Weekly outline), choose a topic (or week)
in which you want to create a Wiki assignment. In this case, we choose Topic 2.

Click on Add an activity to open the pull-down menu.

Select Wiki from the menu.

You must input a name for the Wiki assignment into the Name field.

In this case, we type in “Assignment 1 Collaborative Learning”.

You are then required to input text into the text box under Summary.

For example, you could write something about the assignment, such as purpose, instructions or criteria.
In this case, we type in “What is Collaborative Learning?”.

Type is the setting that allows you to control who can view or edit the wiki.

There are three types of wiki in Moodle: Groups, Student and Teacher.

Groups wiki means that there is only one wiki in each group that the group members can edit.

Student wiki means that every student has their own wiki that they can edit.

Teacher wiki can only be edited by teachers.

By default, Groups is selected.

Group mode allows you to manage students groups in your course.
You can set the group mode in the Group mode field.

There are three group modes --- No groups, Separate groups and Visible groups.

No groups means that students are not divided into groups, i.e., the whole class is a group.

Separate groups means that students are divided into groups and they can view their own group’s wiki page only,
but not the other groups’.

Visible groups means that students are divided into groups but they can still view all the wiki pages,
including their own group’s and others’.

By default, No groups is selected.

Click on the Save and return to course button at the bottom to finish.

You can see that a Wiki assignment named “Assignment 1 Collaborative Learning” is successfully created in Topic 2.
