2. This paper explaining abot psychologycal analysis of poem Alone Edgar Allan Poe.
Alone, as the name suggests, is a poem about an introvert, about a person that was not
very confident of himself, for he was diffident. The first half of the poem was about Poe's
terrible childhood. The second half of the poem is about his family life, and so on. Let me
explain more detailed.
The first eight lines are about him not having the same passions as others, and
about his normal life with his parents. The phrase even makes you think that he preferred
being different to others
The lines 9, 10, 11 and 12, are about how the dawn of his childhood, the early times
of his childhood changed into something negative, which was what 'of a most stormy
life was drawn' meant, the next line, 'From every depth of good and ill' meant that
the change was made from the normal good and bad things in his life so far. The next
line is about him questioning himself why it had happened to him.
Lines 12 to 19 explains why he was taken from those factors of his life, and he
explains how those beautiful and dangerous moods of nature like the torrenta, was part
of his life.
The last 3 lines are perhaps the most important. As far as I have read, Poe had spent
most of his childhood to young adulthood with his foster parents, since he was an
orphan. Poe had always mentioned his foster father as being very strict, aggressive and
very practical, unlike Poe, who was always outside in the greens. So I think the last few
lines are about his father suddenly looking down at him (the demon), when he was
gazing at the blue sky, which he describes as heaven.
3. He was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston. After being orphaned at
age two, he was taken into the home of a childless couple John Allan, a
successful businessman in Richmond, Va., and his wife. Allan was
believed to be Poe’s godfather. At age six, Poe went to England with
the Allans and was enrolled in schools there. After he returned with the
Allans to the U.S. in 1820, he studied at private schools, then attended
the University of Virginia and the U.S. Military Academy, but did not
complete studies at either school.
After beginning his literary career as a poet and prose writer, he
married his young cousin, Virginia Clemm. He worked for several
magazines and joined the staff of the New York Mirror newspaper in
1844. All the while, he was battling a drinking problem. After the Mirror
published his poem “The Raven” in January 1845, Poe achieved national
and international fame. Besides pioneering the development of the
short story, Poe invented the format for the detective story as we know it
today. He also was an outstanding literary critic.
Despite the acclaim he received, Poe was never really happy
because of his drinking and because of the deaths of several people
close to him, including his wife in 1847. He frequently had trouble paying
his debts. It is believed that heavy drinking was a contributing cause of
his death in Baltimore on October 7, 1849
4. ALONE
From childhood’s hour1 I have not been
As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring2—
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow—I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone—
And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
Then—in my childhood—in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Sendiri
hatiku agar bergembira pada lirih bunyi yang sama;
Rahasia dimana terus menerus aku terjepit.
Dari seluruh aliran air yang mengucur ataupun yang
memancur
Dari jurang-jurang diantara rongga pegunungan
Dari matahari yang rutin mengitari aku untuk
menggulirkan
aroma cahaya musim gugurnya yang kekuningan
Dari kilatan-kilatan di langit
Yang seolah mengajak aku terbang
Dari lenguh guruh maupun pangkal badai
Dari payung mendung yang kepadaku nyaris sampai
(ketika surga jadi teramat biru)
Iblis bermukim di sekujur pandanganku.
5. He wrote this poem when he was 20. He speaks of his childhood
and his foster parents. It was not published in his lifetime. And
Edgar Allen Poe, wazs not rich. He was not poor, but he was not
rich, he struggled a fair bit, but he was very well known. This
poem is about his struggle, when he was looking up to heaven
his foster father, looked down on him as a demon. It's so
meaning full and it's sad that he never got to see how much
this poem means to all of us that have commented. Therefore,
The meaning of this poem is loneliness. Poe felt alone all his life
and he was an introvert, who no one understood, even his own
wife. He faced many struggles, but instead of putting those
memories behind him and becoming a happier person, he held
on to those memories and became bitter. My favorite line in this
poem is, "Demon in my view." This line can mean anything, but
I think it means taht most people saw things as beautiful and
sweet, but he saw everything for waht it was: bleak and
uncaring. And that was his demon.
