   He had many years of experience, participating in online communities
   As director and editor of the Digital Divide Network (2004–2006), he got
    to know a lot of bloggers, including those in the Global Voices community
    (a network of international bloggers)
   He uses Twitter like a giant listening post to the world
   When he sees or hears interesting news, he asks people in his network to
    check it, to find out whether it is true
   Who is the source of the information?
   Can others verify that it is true?
   Can you be sure those people are at the location?
   Are they really who they say they are?
   Is the information consistent with other reports?
   Does it seem strange or suspicious in any way?
   Is anyone else saying the same things?
Amina had a blog called “Gay
Girl in Damascus.” She wrote
about her daily life in Syria.
Then Syria became a war zone.
And Amina was kidnapped.
Or was she?
Andy started to get a bad feeling about Amina’s identity.
So he started asking for details about her …
After a few days of investigation, Andy found his answer:

Journalists’ Rule No. 1:

    “playing field” is different now)
