2. Inauguration Day
Early in the morning me
and mommy got up to
go to the Metro. Then
when we got off, we all
went to find the closest
jumbotron to the
Capital. Then we waited
and waited for more
than 4 hours!
3. Friends we made
The people next to
us in the crowd
shared their
handwarmers with
us. They let me
stand on their camp
stool. Soon we
found out that one of
the people next to us
was on Pushing
Daisies, a TV show!
We were shocked.
5. Swearing In
We got to see
Obama sworn in.
The people in the
crowd were
screaming happily.
Some of the people
booed Bush and
Cheney. My mom
told me not to
because it was not
respectful.
6. We were lucky!
We had a good spot on the Mall.
Some people who had tickets got
stuck in the “Purple Tunnel of Doom”.
If you wonder what that is, it’s for all
the people who had purple tickets for
the Inauguration. The line was so
long, they did not all get in.
8. Inauguration crowd
Everyone in the
crowd was very
friendly. They all
wanted to see
Obama sworn in.
Millions of people
came from all over
the world.
Everyone was
wearing their best
Obama clothes.
9. Museum time
After we saw the
Inauguration, we went to
one of the most amazing
museums in the world:
the Smithsonian Natural
History Museum. The
Smithsonians are free
museums for the people
of the United States.
Everything in them
belongs to the American
people.
10. Deserted Mall
After everyone left
the Mall, it was
empty and full of
trash. There were
no trash cans
because the Secret
Service had taken
them all away to
keep people from
hiding bombs.
11. Crowd Confusion
It was time to go
home. Everyone was
trying to get out of DC.
We were all stuck
trying to get into the
Metro station. I
almost got pushed
away from my mom.
Luckily some soldiers
helped my mom keep
me safe.
12. McDonald’s Relief
After a LONG day,
we went to
McDonald’s. The
Inauguration
parade was on the
TV there.
13. The day after
We went to a
Turkish restaurant
and had delicious
food. The
restaurant is
owned by a friend
of my Granny and
Papa, and he was
happy to see us
after 5 years!
14. Quilts
We saw an exhibit of
quilts for Obama. I
loved the swirly quilt.
You weren’t allowed
to take any pictures
of the quilts. My
mom’s friend Ellen
from New Jersey
went with us.
15. Chinatown
We saw Chinatown
in DC. It was very
amazing because
we went to
Starbucks, and the
sign had Chinese
writing.
16. National Portrait Gallery
In this museum,
we saw the famous
HOPE portrait of
Obama, and also
art made out of
license plates. The
license plates say
the preamble to
the Constitution.
“we the people…”
17. Family Reunion #3
The next day, I
met 3 more great
great aunts! One
of them gave me a
presidential coin of
the 6th
president.
My great great
aunt Millie also
gave me a 100
year old cat statue.
18. Homeward Bound
We went to the
airport. We saw a
cardboard Obama
statue. People
were taking turns
taking their picture
with him.
19. The ending day
On the way home,
I played on my DS
and got a lot of use
out of it. I almost
fell asleep in the
airport waiting to
change planes.
20. Summary
The trip was very exciting and tiring.
It was neat to see our first African-
American President sworn in.
Meeting many people was very fun.
Seeing DC is one of the things I will
remember for the rest of my life.
