MLB Community Involvement  Strategic Partnerships
MLB Influences Communities Through   1. Philanthropy  2. Cause Marketing  3. Cause Sponsorship  4. Corporate Community Involvement
Philanthropy is defined as the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed through money donations to good causes.
Cause marketing and cause sponsorship includes cooperative efforts of a for profit business and a non-profit organization for mutual benefit.
Corporate community involvement means engaging in local communities while fostering connections with youth, fans, businesses, nonprofits, and other key stakeholders by means other than their core business.
MLB sponsors 16 programs committed to making a difference in unserved communities.
Partnerships have helped MLB support these programs while benefitting teams, fans, and the cause that it’s supporting.
Key partnerships with Chevrolet, MasterCard, and cities’ parks and recreation departments have allowed the Roberto Clemente Day, Stand Up to Cancer, and RBI programs to be highlighted.
MLB & Chevrolet  Roberto Clemente Day
Chevrolet presents the Roberto Clemente Award to recognize the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement, and contribution to his team.
MLB and Chevrolet combine to pay $37,500 to the selected player’s charity of choice and $30,000 to Roberto Clemente Sports City, a nonprofit that provides sports activities for children in Puerto Rico
MLB & MasterCard  Stand Up To Cancer
MasterCard uses major MLB assets like the All-Star Game, World Series and pro players to communicate awareness to Stand Up To Cancer.
Through campaigns in 2011 and 2012, MasterCard donated more than eight million dollars to the Stand Up To Cancer program.
MLB & City Parks and Recreation  RBI Program
MLB teams implement the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program to attempt to keep youth from joining gangs.
The program hopes to get kids in extra-curricular activities while decreasing the rate of youth violence and theft in inner cities.
