The exhibit consists of drawings rooted in the human figure,
with an emphasis on the impression of the mood and energy it gives.
Using spare, suggestive lines and shades, she aims to render the spirit,
or chi, rather than the semblance of the figure.
Lilith Ohannessian is a contemporary Canadian artist of Armenian descent.
She has a degree in Fine arts (BFA) as well as Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Concordia University, Montreal.
Her life is inspired by oriental philosophies such as Taoism and Zen Buddhism. Using their teachings, Lilith developed her
unique style. Her paintings are in sumi-e style, based on classic Chinese and Japanese calligraphic strokes. Her human
figure drawings are done in graphite pencil, or ink with graphite, where the emphasis is on capturing the mood or
energy in a minimalist way. She uses spare, suggestive outlines and shades to emphasize the contrasts between dark
and light – yin and yang energies.
Her growing experience reveals to her more of the parallels that exist between tai chi, art and life.
Lilith has been teaching sumi-e since 2007
