4 STAGES OF A FILM
      MARCUS
PRODUCTION

• The production of the film took place in late 2002
early 2003, it was produced by New Line Cinema
  and directed by Peter Jackson.
• The film was very expensive to produce but due to
the success of the other Lord of the Rings films they
knew it would be a success so it was worth investing
  so much into it.
TRAILER

• The trailer is a very important part for advertising
any film, it gives the audience a taste of what the
film will be like and what they can expect from it
upon its release. The trailer for „Lord of the Rings‟
shows the audience what they are going to see in
the actual film. If a film has a rubbish trailer then the
expectations that are set for the film are low and
there will not be as high anticipation for the film as it
could be if it had an interesting trailer, and proved
to be a film to see.
VISUAL EFFECTS/CGI

• Visual effects or CGI is a very interesting part of any
film as it is one of the things that the audience will
always see in any film. Visual effects or CGI
(computer generated imagery) is the application of
3D computer graphics to a film, television show or
video game which is seen as an added affect like
the background or an explosion. This was greatly
used in the „lord of the rings‟ it proved to be a
valuable tool in creating the film and the overall
  appeal of it.
DISTRIBUTION

• The distribution of the film took place in December,
the film was released on the 13th December 2003.
On the first weekend of its release it made over $72
million, the success of this film carried on throughout
December and into the new year.
TEST SCREENINGS

• A test screening is when a movie has an early or
pre-release, this is normally to a specific target
audience so the film makers can see if the target
audience appreciates or likes the film. This is
important for lesser known films and increases the
  “hype” for the film.
• My research suggests that The Lord Of The Rings:
The Return Of The King wasn‟t test screened,
perhaps because the film already had a huge
marketing scheme and was already well known.
BUILDING INTEREST

• This film is the third in the franchises
successful trilogy and already had a large
amount of interest however the post
production advertisement was still huge, The
previous films had a huge fan following and
even before the release of the first film there
was already enough interest for the films, it
may have helped that the film was based
upon books so it was already a huge hit.
You could class the actors involved as
building interest actors like Orlando Bloom
and Elijah woods who are already well
  known and famous.
EDITING

• Film editing is a part of the post-production process.
It involves the selecting and combining of short clips
into sequences and eventually a motion picture.
Editing also includes adding special effects, music,
  animation ect.
