Questionnaire Interpretation
1. Questionnaire interpretation “ How do we perceive European nations through their culture , traditions, music…….?” "XENOPHOBIA" - COMENIUS I
2. We have applied the questionnaire on a number of 252 people, out of whom 127 students, 100 parents and 25 teachers. All the students’ parents (127 people) were asked to fill in the questionnaire. Yet , a number of 27 parents haven’t returned their questionnaires. All the students involved have answered the questionnaire. All the teachers involved have answered the questionnaires. The answers we have been given differ slightly, due to the following factors: a. the difference of age. b. social differences due to the level of the parents’ studies and/qualification. c. different approach on the part of the teachers . For the last two questions , the answers differ from students to parents and teachers, due to the fact that our students have had the opportunity of studying two widely circulated languages at school (mainly English and French), while their parents and teachers , belonging to older generations were prevented from learning too many foreign languages during the communist regime.

Remarks on the students’, parents’ and teachers’ top of languages: Obviously, the students are tempted to learn “exotic” languages as well as languages that can help them build a career in business in future, since the countries that have penetrated the business market in our town are Germany, Italy, Turkey and China. The wish to learn Hungarian is due to the fact that the Hungarians are a very well represented ethnic minority in the region where we live, and not all children speak it. In the parents’ case, the fact that most of them learned French and Russian when in school, explains the need of learning English. German , Italian and Spanish are explainable, because of the requirements of the business market and/or the parents’ migration in search of better opportunities for work. As for the teachers , most of them are aware of the fact that English is spoken in most countries and it’s not only a need but a “must” in communication. The reasons for the other foreign languages don’t differ substantially from the parents’.
