4. Traditional approaches to deal with metal allergies
Strict Avoidance
Corticosteroids cream
Barrier cream
« EDTA » like cream
• Metals are ubiquitus
• Issue when related to occupational setting
• Helps with crisis but not a good solution on
the long term
• Skin occlusion
• Limited compliance due to texture
• Not efficient anymore as soon as the film
starts to cracks
• Does not prevent the metals to penetrate the
skin
• Toxicity of the compound
Skintifique – EADV 2015 4
5. A New technology for cream that protects against
metals
Skintifique – EADV 2015
• Chelation with several agents under specific
physicochemical conditions to prevent skin
penetration.
• Compatible with moisturizing and other agents
• Minimal number of safe ingredients for
optimized safety
Principle Compatible with real life
products

9. A new tool is available for people suffering from metal
allergy
• Prevention measures can be complemented with new topical creams, that specifically
bind metals and trap them at the surface of epidermis, reducing skin exposure to metal.
• In 74 % of studied cases, such protective cream allowed skin recovery in case of contact
dermatitis and prevention of ACD in case of exposure.
• No corticosteroids and other anti-inflamatory drug were needed for these users.
• New tool available for about 1 y, actively looking for professionals to evaluate its
potential and use with their patients in variety of settings
