We have reflected on what are the principles and goals, as an industry and a society, that we should discuss and debate.
A.I. must be designed to assist humanity: As we build more autonomous machines, we need to respect human autonomy. Collaborative robots, or co-bots, should do dangerous work like mining, thus creating a safety net and safeguards for human workers.
A.I. must be transparent: We should be aware of how the technology works and what its rules are. We want not just intelligent machines but intelligible machines. Not artificial intelligence but symbiotic intelligence. The tech will know things about humans, but the humans must know about the machines. People should have an understanding of how the technology sees and analyzes the world. Ethics and design go hand in hand.
A.I. must maximize efficiencies without destroying the dignity of people: It should preserve cultural commitments, empowering diversity. We need broader, deeper, and more diverse engagement of populations in the design of these systems. The tech industry should not dictate the values and virtues of this future.
A.I. must be designed for intelligent privacy—sophisticated protections that secure personal and group information in ways that earn trust.
A.I. must have algorithmic accountability so that humans can undo unintended harm. We must design these technologies for the expected and the unexpected.
A.I. must guard against bias, ensuring proper, and representative research so that the wrong heuristics cannot be used to discriminate.
Today, we live and work in a world of information overload. The amount data created in the last two years is equal to the amount of data created since the dawn of time. The amount of data an information worker is exposed to on any work day is equivalent to the amount of data consumed over a lifetime just a few generations ago.
This is staggering and, at times, scary. Information overload makes it harder for you to find the data, information, and knowledge that’s relevant and important to you.
IDC has captured in a great stat “The average organization with 1,000 knowledge workers wastes $5.9M annually spending time looking for information they do not find”.
GRACE: Can we call out a stat from one analyst?
With all the “noise”, it’s also harder to know where to focus your time.
At Microsoft, we see this vast quantity of content, data, relationships, and activities as an opportunity. Because customers trust this data to us, we can reason over it with advanced intelligence and extract knowledge, insights and guidance that improve how you and your organization get your work done.
For each customer of Office 365, their data is an asset. And it is a huge asset—in fact, Office 365 is easily one of the largest commercial data sets in the world and growing every day.
Customers want to maximize the return on their assets. For information, this is done by transforming data into insights.
There are two types of data: structured and unstructured. Most organizations already leverage their structured data for insights today, for example in financial analysis, or sales and performance reporting.
But most corporate data is unstructured: it’s just a lot data and content and bits of information connected by signals that indicate relationships and behavioral interactions.
This is where we see the biggest opportunity, as we can take the unstructured data and apply intelligence
That’s where machine learning comes in. It allows Office 365 to understand
the content you work with
the relationships between individuals, teams, and the organization
patterns of work
and, most importantly, how these relates to you.
The result is that Office 365 can derive actionable insights that would otherwise be invisible to you. These insights can help you:
Answer questions
Make better decisions
Focus on what matters most
Guide actions
The form that these insights take can vary: They might be a piece of content you are looking for, a connection to expertise or experience, analysis about how you collaborate, or guidance on what you could do to be more impactful.
Find what you need (search & discovery)
Find people & expertise with recommendations from Microsoft Graph
View personalized content in context & on the go
Get back to your work (recent)
Know what’s happening around you (discover, trends)
Surface content based on who you work with & what is trending
Focus & prioritize (cut through the noise, focus, notifications)
Work smarter (people)
Be prepared – knowing more before you walk into a meeting
Action of staying in the know
Take out the guesswork
Before you reply all
Leverage the work of others
Amplify your impact (RO”My”)
Control visibility of sensitive content with existing permissions
Position Delve as a ‘dedicated search and discovery experience’—a ‘hero experience’ for Microsoft Graph.
Delve helps you discover relevant content and people based on who you work with and what is trending around you.
Delve is powered by the intelligence of the Microsoft Graph and helps you find that piece of content that you were looking for and to discover expertise in your company without having to look for it.
But now, we are infusing the value of intelligence in Delve into other experiences, so information and insights surface right where you are working, in the context of your work. You no longer have to leave an app to find content or expertise—it finds you.
.
One thing that I really want to call out again is that your documents are safe. Microsoft Graph and Delve respect Office 365 security and privacy settings, and Delve never changes permissions for any document.
What you see in Delve is different from what other people see. You can see your private documents and other documents that you can access and have been shared with you. Other people can see their documents and documents they can access. But they cannot access your private data, emails or documents.
Other people cannot see your private activities in Delve—such as what documents you've read, what emails you've sent and received, or what Skype for Business conversations you've joined. Other people can see that you've modified a document, but only if they have access to the same document.
So you can only see information that is already available to you and others can only see information that is already available to them.

With Office 365 we are delivering the hybrid cloud, a unified and consistent platform spanning your datacenter and multiple clouds, using what you have while extending your reach and control. Combining SharePoint, Exchange, Lync, and Office 365 allows organizations to take advantage of cloud innovation while securing their on-premises data and processes.
SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Server 2016 provide two individual hybrid search scenarios, Cloud Hybrid Search introduced in August 2015 to SharePoint Server 2016 IT Preview and SharePoint Server 2013, in addition to the classic federated hybrid search scenario, introduced in SharePoint Server 2013. Cloud Hybrid Search
The Cloud Hybrid Search scenario represents the next generation in hybrid search and discovery. With the cloud hybrid search solution, both your on-premises and Office 365 crawled content is unified in a search index hosted in Office 365. When users query your search index in Office 365, they get search results from both on-premises and Office 365 content. The content metadata is encrypted when it’s transferred to the search index in Office 365, so the on-premises content remains secure.Federated Hybrid Search
Federated hybrid search is a hybrid search scenario in which a query issued by a user is federated or distributed across on-premises and Office 365 returning a set of results from each location as discrete entities. In a federated hybrid search scenario on-premises crawled content is stored on-premises in the search index and Office 365 content in the search index in Office 365 with no affinity between the two data sets. Federated hybrid search can be configured in inbound, outbound, or bi-directional hybrid topologies. Outbound
User searches from the SharePoint Server 2013 Search Center display hybrid results. This is called outbound hybrid search.Inbound
User searches from the SharePoint Online Search Center display hybrid results. This is called inbound hybrid search.
A SharePoint hybrid experience provides three layers of opportunity for customers of SharePoint Server 2016 that allow customers to take advantage of Office 365 innovation at their own pace, whether you are considering migrating to Office 365 or plan to maintain a hybrid model.
App Launcher
The App Launcher is a familiar feature in Office and it’s now been extended to SharePoint Server 2016. The App Launcher provides a common location to discover new apps and navigate SharePoint on-premises and Office 365.
Apps
The Apps represent the experiences a customer can implement and choose from with hybrid through the App Launcher. These are the core scenarios a customer can implement as part of their hybrid experience.
Data Discovery
To complete the hybrid scenarios, customers can choose to implement hybrid search that enables unified discovery of both content and people across SharePoint and Office 365 and enables the use of powerful capabilities such as the Office Graph.
