  2. 2. Do you use technology in your lesson plans at least once a semester? Then you should consider taking Capstone!
  3. 3. What is Capstone?? <ul><li>Capstone is a two-semester, six-hour course that allows you to showcase your technological know-how while earning certification from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). You can also earn graduate credit through affiliated institutions. Some colleges are now offering this certification combined with teaching certificates and bachelor’s degrees. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What is the ISTE? <ul><li>The ISTE publishes the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T) and Students (NETS*S). These standards define the readiness our teachers and students should exhibit. </li></ul><ul><li>Capstone is a way for teachers to prove proficiency in the integration of technology into lesson planning and teaching. </li></ul>

These projects helped me to… <ul><li>Plan lessons supported by the school’s technology resources. </li></ul><ul><li>Use technology to enhance student learning in ways traditional methods simply do not. </li></ul><ul><li>Construct assessments, evaluations, and planned student products around technological resources. </li></ul>

These projects helped me to… <ul><li>Recognize the Web 2.0 tools available to help productivity in addition to the division-wide tools already in use. </li></ul><ul><li>Exemplify appropriate and professional use of tools of creation and communication. </li></ul><ul><li>Recognize the strengths I have in place, along with those I need to develop. </li></ul>

These projects helped me to… <ul><li>Foster a community of practice with those in my Capstone cohorts, while also building one throughout the school community in which I work. </li></ul><ul><li>Gain confidence in using technological tools en masse. </li></ul><ul><li>Gain nationally-recognized certification. </li></ul>

But my projects most helped… <ul><li>Students responding to an ever-changing job market, one shifting from manufacturing to service-based. </li></ul><ul><li>Students develop skills matching the demands of today’s job market. </li></ul><ul><li>Emphasize the 21st Century Skills that American students now must have as they enter employment and a global market. </li></ul>

Not to mention!!! <ul><li>Instead of lugging around shoulder bags of papers, carry a jump drive instead! </li></ul><ul><li>Awesome rubrics created online specific to your project! </li></ul><ul><li>Great opportunity for sharing with work with parents! </li></ul><ul><li>Reduced opportunity for classic “cheating”! </li></ul>
