Most interesting facts about History
The first mention about Dąbrowa Górnicza can be found in
documents of the parish of Będzin before 1726, when the
oldest known baptism of Dąbrowa’s woman resident took
place. Around 1785, hard coal was disovered in the area of the
present Haller Park. It’s right here that the first hard coal strip
mine Reden was established in 1796.The ecclesiastic historical
sights of Dąbrowa Górnicza have for years been enriching the
city’s image. The city’s historical buildings include the Pałac
Kultury Zagłebie, an outstanding example of the socialist
realism, erected in years 1951- 1958 to design by Z. Rzepecki,
and the front building of the Group of ‚Schools Sztygarka.

General information
Dąbrowa Górnicza covers 188 square kilometers and has a population
of about 120,000 people. Located in sounthern Poland, it is one of the
biggest, as regards area, cities of Śląskie Voivodeship. The city
stretches between two hills : Będzińskie and Gołonskie, in the basis of
two rivers- Biała Przemsza and Czarna Przemsza. Dąbrowa Górnicza is
also a significiant industrial centre very attractive to investors. Almost
2000 hectares of the city are included in the local special economic
zone. After years of the dominant heavy industry, the current economy
of Dąbrowa Górnicza is becoming much more diversified.

Culture
The city develops broard operations aimed at propagation of culture. Palace of
Culture offers a lot of atractions for people. Pałac Kultury Zagłebie, is the
biggest cultural- educational insitution in the city, featuring a theatre room.
Artistic plans include numerous premieres as well an concerts on special
occasion and educational concerts with the participation of famous artists,
instrumentalists and vocalists. The city’s Municipal Musem Sztygarka, seated in
the former Palace of the Western Mining District Management, present
permament expositions in a dozen or so rooms: historical, nature- geogical and
ethnographic- travel exhibitions, as well as temporary expositions presenting for
example photographic reports from expeditions of many famous travellers.

Education
The city’s Youth Creative Work Centre offers interesting forms of
work for children and young people. Young members disposal art.,
computer, theatre, dance, music and reading rooms. The Business
Collage satisifies the requirements of the contemoporary job
market. In Dąbrowa Górnicza there is the voivodeship’s first and
Poland’s second Astronomical Observatory attached to the Group of
Schools no.1. The Observatory has a rotary dome made of glass fibre
and a huge, reflecting telescope with a mirror, which is 50 cm in
diamenter, and a range of stars of 15 MG. The dome’s modern
structure makes it possible to draw it apart and to project the
telescope named Cassegraina.

Dąbrowa Górnicza is a city of contrasts,there are
many green areas. On the one hand huge industry, and on

here.The cushion spurge is an expectional
phenomenon, which in this region has the only
