2. Microsoft's Photo Story
Introduction:
Microsoft's Photo Story is a free Windows program that allows you create digital
storytelling out of your photos and images. You can easily crop, rotate, and edit your
pictures; personalize them with captions and titles; and add sound effects, narration,
and background music. Photo Story saves your digital storytelling as WMV files you
can play on your PC or convert using a third-party video converter. Finished files can
be small enough to send by email, too.

 Computer or laptop.
 Windows Media Player 10 or Windows Media Player 11 to be able to see the
story you have made.
 Photos or images.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
 Import and arrange pictures.
 Add a title to the pictures.
 Narrate the pictures and customize motion.
 Add background music.
 Save the story.

3. Process:
 Step 1: How to start Photo Story?

Open Photo Story 3. Click Start. Choose Programs. Choose Photo
Story 3.

Click on Begin a New Story.

Then click next.
 Step 2: Import and arrange your pictures.
To import pictures into you project you have to click on Import Pictures… button.

4. When all the desired pictures are selected, click the OK button to bring the pictures
into the project.
After arranging your pictures in way that you want, click on the Save Project button
and then click on the Next button.
 Step 3: Add a titles to your pictures.
If you want to add titles, quotes, or other statements on the pictures, type what
you want on the screen in the text box. You can also change the colour, font
size, and font type by clicking on the Select Font button.

5. After adding the titles, click on the Save Project … button and then click on the Next
button.
 Step 4: Narrate your pictures and customize motion.
Here you can add your own audio and decide how you want your pictures to
move and change.
Movement: By default each picture is displayed for five (5) seconds before
changing to the next. You can change this amount for any picture by clicking
on the Customize Motion… button.
After choosing the motions and transitions set, click on the Close button to return to
the project window.

6. If you want to record click on the picture to which you want to add your narration and
then click on the record button. After adding the narration for that picture click on the
stop button.
Once you have the movements, transitions, and narrations set, save your project and
then click on the Next button.

7.  Step 5: Add background music.
Now, you can add background music that plays during your story, by selecting
from music saved on your computer or by creating new music. Clicking on the
Select Music allows you to choose a piece of music saved as a digital file
from your computer, a network folder, or the Internet.
Create Music button allows you to adjust or customize specialized prerecorded music by choosing the genre, style, bands, mood, tempo, and
intensity of the music. Click on the first picture of the project and then click on
the music button. Try playing with the options, making adjustments; until you
have the background that you feel goes with your story, and then click the OK
button. The music will spread across the whole project. Now, you should
adjust the volume setting of the background music.
After selecting background music, save your project and then click on the Next
button.

8.  Step 6: Save your story.
Now you have to save your Photo Story project file as a movie (*.wmv). In
this stage the program will take the project file (.wp3) and create a separate
movie file. While Photo Story gives you several options I would suggest that
you use the Save your story for playback on your computer. You will need
to go into the Settings… in order to select one of the built in options. I would
suggest that you pick from the Profiles 1-4 for computers, understanding that
the larger screen setting will cause the movie to have a larger file size. If you
want to create a Video CD or DVD and play your stories on a television you
should choose those options. You will then need to import the movie into a
DVD/CD Video creation program to actually burn the videos onto a disc. The
smallest file size would be the one for e-mail, but this one would also have the
least clarity.
Now click on the Next button to start the building process, in which the program takes
your project and turns it into a movie file.
