Law of the Lid
Leadership is
like a lid or a
ceiling on your
organization.
To reach the highest
level of effectiveness,
you have to raise your
leadership lid.
Business growth
depends on the
extent the leadership
allows it to grow.
Leadership has
a multiplying
effect.
Law of Influence
Positional leadership
especially does not
work in voluntary
organizations.
Leadership is simply
about influencing
people. Cannot be
mandated. It must be
earned.
The very essence
of all power to
influence lies in
getting the other
person to
participate.
As soon as they
no longer believe
you can deliver,
they will stop
following.
Law of Process
I Don’t Know What I
Don’t Know.
I Know That I Need to
Know.
I Know and Grow and
It Starts to Show.
Leaders should
be constant
learners.
Leadership
Develops Daily,
Not in a Day.
It’s the capacity to
develop and improve
one’s skills that
distinguishes leaders
from their followers.
The process of
learning is
ongoing, a result
of self-discipline
and
perseverance.
Law of Navigation
Anyone Can
Steer the Ship,
but It Takes a
Leader to
Chart the
Course.
Charting A Course with A
Navigation Strategy
Predetermine course of action
Lay out your goals
Adjust your priorities
Notify key personnel
Allow time for acceptance
Head into action
Expect problems
Always point to the successes
Daily review your plan
Secret to the Law of
Navigation is
preparation. When you
prepare well, you convey
confidence and trust.
Leaders who are good
navigators are capable
of taking their people just
about anywhere.
Law of E. F. Hutton/Addition
Leaders add
value by
serving others
along with
serving
themselves.
Adding Value, Changing
Lives – four guidelines for
adding value to others.
Truly Value Others
Make Yourself More Valuable
To Others
Know and Relate to What
Others Value
Do Things That Others Value
Leadership isn’t
about how far we
advance ourselves
but how far we
advance others.
Are you
making things
better for the
people who
follow you?
Law of Solid Ground
The
foundation
of
leadership is
TRUST.
Character Communicates
A PERSON’S CHARACTER
QUICKLY COMMUNICATES MANY
THINGS TO OTHERS
Character Communicates
Consistency
Character Communicates Potential
Character Communicates Respect
A leader build trust
by consistently
exemplifying
competence,
connection and
character.
Law of Respect
Greatest
potential
pitfall-
relying on
talent alone
“PEOPLE NATURALLY FOLLOW
LEADERS STRONGER THAN
THEMSELVES”
Good leaders rely on respect
Good leaders understand that
l leadership is voluntary
As soon as respect is lost,
influence over people will
be lost
“When people
respect you as a
leader, the follow
you”
Law of Intuition
“every
person
possess
intuition” It is based on facts and
instincts as well as other changing
factors like employee morale,
organizational momentum.
It is the ability to “smell things”.
It is either natural or must be
nurtured.
“people are intuitive
in their area of
strength”
Law of Magnetism
“who you
are is who
you attract”
It is also a call to action to know
weakness and seek
to grow out of them.
The things you don’t like about your
organization is what you don’t like
about yourself.“If you want to grow
an organization grow
the leader”
Law of Connection
“ leaders
touch a
heart before
they ask for
a hand”
To truly connect with
people you have to value
them learn about them
and then adapt to who
they are.
Change yourself in order
to invite them.
“you develop
credibility with people
when you connect
with them and show
that you genuinely
care and want to
help them”
Law of the Inner Circle
“ a leader’s
connection is
determined by
those closest
to him”
We must surround ourselves
continually with people we admire
and respect
Potential for growth is stunted when
we keep weaker people than
ourselves with us“ you show me your
friends and I’ll show
you your future.”
TO SUCCEED YOU
MUST EMPOWER
OTHERS
The Law of
Empowerment
Why do we fail to empower?
DESIRE FOR JOB
SECURITY
RESISTANCE TO
CHANGE
LACK OF SELF
WORTH
Great leaders are both highly
visionary and highly practical
Mission
gives
Purpose
Vision
gives a
Picture
Strategy
gives a
Plan
The Law of the Picture
Followers Are Always
Watching What You Do
It’s Easier to Teach What’s
Right Than to Do What’s Right
Work on Changing Ourselves
Before Trying to Improve
Others
The Most Valuable Gift a
Leader Can Give Is Being a
Good Example
The Law of
the Buy-In
The leader finds the dream
And then the people
The people find the leader
And then the dream
Law of Victory
We are
humans and
we love to win.
We hate to
lose.
The unity of vision doesn’t
happen spontaneously
The right players with
proper diversity of talent
don’t come together on
their own
It takes a leader to make
those things happen
True leader has to
ensure that the team
wins. He can’t ensure it
from the very beginning
but he can ensure is to
follow a correct path to
follow to reach there.
Law of Momentum
Leaders don’t give
up. They never
lose their
momentum. They
always know how
to get their things
going
Examples are Walt
Disney and Colonel
Sanders. There wouldn’t
have been a KFC or
Disney world had they
given up in the middle.
Sanders started his
dream at the age of
65 and got turned
down for 1009
times before getting
the first yes for his
franchisee idea.
Walt Disney was turned
down for being
unimaginative. After we
went bankrupt he was
turned down 306 times
before getting financing
for hid Disney World
project
Law of Priority
A leader has
Plan Bs
because he
knows that
Plan A hardly
works out.
Activity Accomplishment
A leader is the one who climbs
the tallest tree, surveys the
entire situation, and yells
“Wrong Jungle!”
A leader should learn 3
Rs:
1) What is REQUIRED
2) What gives a
greatest RETURN
3) What brings the
greatest REWARD
Law of Sacrifice
The cost of leadership:
Leaders must be willing
to give up more than
the people they lead
The Higher the
Level of
Leadership, the
Greater the
Sacrifice
Effective leaders
sacrifice much
that is good in
order to dedicate
themselves to
what is best.
Law of Timing
Good leadership timing
requires many things –
a. Understanding
b. Maturity
c. Confidence
d. Decisiveness
e. Experience
f. Intuition
g. Preparation
Wrong action + wrong time
= Disaster
Right action + wrong time
= Resistance
Wrong action + Right time
= Mistake
Right action + Right time
= Success
Law of Explosive Growth
To Add
Growth, Lead
Followers – To
Multiply, Lead
Leaders
leaders who develop leaders
impact people far beyond their
personal reach. Every time you
develop leaders and help them
increase their leadership ability,
you make them capable of
influencing an even greater
number of people
You can grow by leading
followers. But if you
want to maximize your
leadership and help
your organization reach
its potential, you need to
develop leaders. There is
no other way to
experience explosive
growth.
Law of Legacy
Choose Who Will Carry on
Your Legacy –
Too often leaders put their
energy into organizations,
buildings or other lifeless
objects. But only people live
on after we are gone.
Everything else is temporary.
Know the Legacy You
Want to Leave –
Someday people will
summarize your life in
a single sentence. My
advice: pick it now!
Live the Legacy
You Want to Leave
–
to have any
credibility as a
leader, you must
live what you say
you believe.
Make Sure You
Pass the Baton –
If you don’t make
sure you pass the
baton, you will
not leave the
legacy you desire.
In Summary
Your value is measured by your succession
You must know when to make a move
You must find a way for the team to win
You must empower others to remain an effective leader
You can’t move people to action unless you move them with emotion
You need to earn everyone’s trust, and their buy-in
You become more effective by being a better leader
Thank You
