Sailors, with 6,465 mobilized Reserves; and 192,652 civilians are serving in the Department
    of the Navy.

 286 active ships are in service. 144 (50%), including one carrier and two large-deck
    amphibious ships, are underway.

 10,634 Individual Augmentees, 5,698 of which are mobilized Reserves, are deployed on the
ground around the world in support of overseas contingency operations.

 Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.), Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert,
and the Chairman of the Board for Operation Sail, Mr. Jose Fuentes, kick-off the
commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 at a reception in Washington, D.C.

 The crew of USS Virginia (SSN 774) enjoys their first full day home after completing the
namesake class' first full, six-month deployment. Virginia, based out of Groton, Conn.,
achieved an impressive 85 percent operational tempo, the highest percentage for a submarine
    in the Atlantic fleet.

 The men and women of littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2) arrive at Naval
Station Norfolk. The crew will on-load fuel and stores, as well as conduct aviation
certification training, before departing for Fleet Week in Port Everglades, Fla., Apr. 17.

 USS Newport News (SSN 750) makes preparations to depart Naval Station Norfolk, Va., for
    a brief underway.

 Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) special agents provide crime scene investigation
and first responder training in Belize to 300 law enforcement, security, and emergency
personnel from 15 Caribbean Basin nations in conjunction with Tradewinds 2010, an annual
security interoperability exercise supporting U.S. Southern Command’s Theater Security
    Cooperation plan.

 USS Laboon (DDG 58), USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), USS Vicksburg
(CG 69), and USS Kauffman (FFG 59), along with Destroyer Squadron 24 (DESRON 24)
staff participate in Exercise Joint Warrior 10-1. The semi-annual, multi-warfare exercise
takes place off the coast of the United Kingdom and is designed to improve interoperability
between allied navies. Nations participating in the exercise are Belgium, Brazil, France,
Germany, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States.

 Commodore of Africa Partnership Station (APS) West, Capt. Cindy Thebaud, visits with the
Mayor of Dakar, Senegal, Mr. Khalifa Ababacar, for the first time, further strengthening the
growing partnership between the U.S. Navy and Senegal.
 USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), on station in the North Arabian Sea, launches 26
combat sorties, providing more than 213 cumulative hours of aerial support for Coalition and
American troops supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

 USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) patrols the northern Arabian Gulf in support of Combined
Task Force – Iraqi Maritime. The Sullivans is providing security and maritime domain
awareness in the vicinity of Al Basra Oil Terminal, which is the main source of Iraq’s oil
exportation program and an important economic link to the world.

 While forward deployed to U.S. Pacific Command, members of all-reserve SEAL Team 17
Bravo Platoon aid and assist the Republic of Maldives with Visit, Board, Search and Seizure
    training.

 At the request of Republic of Korea’s (ROK) government, USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49),
USNS Salvor (T-ARS 52), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit
ONE (MDSU-1) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit FIVE, Platoon 501 support
efforts to salvage a ROK Navy corvette, ROKS Choenan (PCC-772), which sank Mar. 26 in
the Yellow Sea, just south of the Northern Limit Line. The Northern Limit Line marks the
de-facto border of North and South Korea.

 Forty-five members of the Tokyo Japan-U.S. Association tour USS George Washington
(CVN 73) and have lunch at the officers club, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan.

 USS Hawaii (SSN 776) undergoes routine inspections and repairs during the first-ever dry-
dock of a Virginia-class submarine at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Hawaii. Upon
conclusion of the dry-dock period, Hawaii will continue preparations for the first Virginia
class Western Pacific deployment later this year.

 USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) conducts one of the biggest equipment and supply onloads
in the history of Naval Station Everett in preparation for embarking Carrier Air Wing Two
for its Tailored Ship Training Assessment.

 USS New Orleans (LPD 18) conducts amphibious operations off the coast of Camp
Pendleton, Calif., with embarked U.S. Marines and Indian Army personnel in support of

    responsibility.

 USS Freedom (LCS 1) departs Manzanillo, Mexico, the final foreign port visit of its maiden
deployment. During the four-day theater security cooperation visit to Manzanillo, Freedom’s
Sailors worked side-by-side with their Mexican Navy counterparts during a community
relations project at a local orphanage.
 Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Unit 8 perform EOD
procedures during a mine countermeasure drill at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort
Story. EODMU 8 is one of eight platoons currently receiving training at Explosive Ordnance
Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit (EODTEU) Two. Mobile units undergo training at
EODTEU 2 to maintain mission readiness.

 The Office of Naval Research tests the future movement of materials through a sea base with
its Large Vessel Interface Lift-on/Lift-off demonstrator crane aboard the maritime
administration ship SS Flickertail State (T-ACS 5) at Naval Station Norfolk, Va. The
advanced crane uses motion-sensing technology to control 20-foot shipping containers
throughout all six degrees of freedom while in a seaway with sea state 4 conditions.

 Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., begins construction of the P-8A Integrated Training
Facility. The first P-8A was rolled out of the factory in July 2009, and the P-8A will begin to
replace fleet P-3Cs in 2012. This $37.4 million facility will directly support fleet training for

Joseph Riley during Navy Week Charleston, S.C, and present him with an American flag that
    was flown aboard Pinckney.

 Fleet and Family Support Center, Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) holds a training class
on the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program. The program provides
sexual assault prevention and awareness education to NBVC commands and tenants on an
    ongoing basis.

 The Navy and Arlington Career Center (ACC) sign the Personal Excellence Partnership
Agreement, a formal partnership that will bring together Navy mentors with ACC students.
Signed by Steffanie Easter, Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower,
Personnel, Training and Education, it establishes a link between the Navy and ACC through
which ACC students will have the opportunity to work with naval professionals in the
Washington, D.C., area in several classroom and extra-curricular activities.

 Engineman 1st Class Carol Winkler at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and 132 other fans,
chime in and post a response to the U.S. Navy’s Facebook page post, “Every month we
spotlight the Navy's global operations on one day. Today is that day! Keeping in mind that
loose lips sink ships -- shipmates, tell us what you did today in the Navy!” Winkler writes,
“Hooyah! GO NAVY! Had command PT with the shipmates and then put the final touches
    on a FY 2011 budget... ”
