2. Adding Masthead
In order to create the masthead for my magazine
cover, I clicked on the ‘horizontal type tool’, located to
the left hand side. I dragged the mouse over the area
in which I intended to place the text and changed the
font to ‘Cooper Std’. I then changed the size to 132pt.
Having experimenting with various settings, I felt this
was the best size. I ensured the colour was white.
Originally I planned for black, however, this did not
stand out from the image.
3. Adding Barcode
I then decided to add a barcode. I searched for
‘barcodes’ in Google Images. After finding an appropriate
image, I saved the file and inserted it into Photoshop. I
then went to Edit>Transform>Scale, with the intention to
resize the barcode. Whilst changing the size of the image,
I ensured to hold down the ‘shift’ key in order to retain the
original shape.
4. Adding Main Cover Line
I then decided to add my
anchorage text, ‘the glittering
debut’, to the left bottom hand
side of my image.
In order for this to stand out, I
coloured the text white and
set the font type to ‘Arial
Black’.
To add the text, I used the
same method as before;
clicking on the ‘horizontal
type face tool’ and selecting
the area in which I wished to
write.
5. Adding Buzz Word
I then decided to add the buzz
word ‘exclusive’. Using the font
‘Arial Black’, in white, sized 30pt,
I constructed the text on the right
hand side of my image.
Following this, I decided to add a
backdrop to the text. I created a new
layer, and used the ‘rectangular
marquee tool’ to select around the font.
Then, selecting the ‘gradient tool’, I
dragged the mouse down, resulting in a
coloured layer. I then moved the layer
under the text. The text was now visible.
6. Adjusting Barcode
I decided to add the price, date
and website to the barcode, as
conventionally seen on
magazines. To do so, I took the
‘horizontal type tool’ and wrote
using the font ‘Avenir Next
Condensed’. Using the same
process as before, seen on the
previous slide, I added a
backdrop; this time I coloured it
white.
7. Additional Text
The last stage was to add further
text. Using ‘Arial Black’, again, I
followed the same process as
before; by selecting ‘horizontal
type tool’ and dragging onto the
desired area, I was able to write.
I then followed the same process,
shown earlier, of adding a
backdrop to the text. After this, I
decreased the size of the font and
wrote beneath the cover line.
