2. Umm, what?
• Choose a body part (keep it PG!) that is typically
not focused on in traditional artwork, making it
the “central figure” or “portrait” in your work.
• Ideas:
– Eyes, eyeballs -Shoulders
– Ears -Hips
– Lips -Hair
– Hands, fingers -Arms
– Feet, toes -Legs

3. Body Part Art
• Keep your subject matter limited to only one part
(avoid whole faces or large portions of the body)
• Use color, size/scale, and repetition (multiple
images of the same part) to create visual interest
• Think of what you would like to communicate to
the viewer.
– How do you want the viewer to feel?
– What do you want the viewer to understand?

9. Any Questions?
• Make a sketch:
– Pick a part of the body
– Think of an interesting composition. How can you
alter it to make it more interesting to look at?
• Size/shape
• Color (unusual)
• Repetition
– Avoid realism; think of the abstract.
