  1. 1. Sitges is a town about 35 kilometres southwest of Barcelona, in Catalonia, renowned worldwide for its Film Festival and Carnival. The roots of Sitges' artistic reputation date back to the late 19th century, when Catalan painter Santiago Rusiñol took up residence there during the summer. Today, Sitges' economy is based on tourism and culture offering more than 4,500 hotel beds, half of them in four-star hotels. Almost 35% of the approxi- mately 26,000 permanent inhabitants are from the Netherlands, the UK, France and Scandinavia, whose children attend interna-tional schools in the area

  12. 12. The Sitges flower carpet festival is a beautiful and traditional competition called 'Concurso de Alfombras de Flores' and sometimes also called 'Arte Floral del Corpus Christi’
  13. 13. Many Sitges streets will be adorned with flower carpets. Catifa de Flors means flower carpet in the Catalan language. The carpeted streets are called 'catifes' and marked in yellow on the map of the Sitges Corpus celebrations
  14. 14. This Sitges floral carpet event has been declared a Spanish 'Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional' 
  15. 15. Sitges is renowned for its celebration of Corpus Christi. A deeply rooted tradition, a great number of its village streets are carpeted with intricate designs made of flower petals. Anybody is welcome to join in to help create these carpets

It is a modernist building of 1915 whose architect Ignasi Mas i Morell was also the author of the Plaza de Toros Monumental in Barcelona. It is one of the most emblematic buildings of the town also called as the house of the clock because it is the highlight of the building. The most characteristic element of its tower is the so- called "trencadís" or pieces of colored ceramics (resembling Gaudí's work)
