Through Hero Miles Program and The Fisher House
Foundation, it's possible to help veterans be with
the ones they love. Donated frequent flier miles are
used to bring family to bedsides of injured
veterans.

A RIDE
Offer your neighborhood veteran a ride to their doctors'
office or their appointments. Organizations like
Disabled American Veterans offer free transport to
women and men travel to Veterans Affairs medical
facilities.

COMPANION DOG
FOR VETERANS
WITH PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder plagues countless veterans, and many
continue to deal with the ghosts of horrors they witness during their years in
the service. Organizations such as Puppies Behind Bars is one in which
prisoners train companion dogs for veterans with PTSD. Also, the VA offers
access to PTSD Coach Online.
5. KEEP VETERANS
OFF THE STREETS
Rather than allowing veterans fall victim to homelessness after years
of exhausting themselves on the battlefield. The Department of
Veterans Affairs' Stand Down program was created so that food,
shelter, health screenings, and resources are made available to both
unemployed and homeless veterans.
6. SEND A CARE
PACKAGE OR A
LETTER
Send a letter or a care package to needy or isolated
veterans. Operation Gratitude has issued more than 1.5
million individually addressed care packages to
individuals withing the military community.
7. HELP THEM TAKE
FLIGHT
The Honor Flight Network has helped veterans make the free
pilgrimage to the World War II Memorial on the National Mall
in Washington. The public can support veterans by acting as
volunteers and escorting vets to the memorial. Also, Honor
Flight helps to transport vets who are terminally-ill.
8. SHARE THEIR
STORIES
Veterans History Project helps to collect the important
stories of veterans so that its placed in the Library of
Congress. The Library of Congress is always listening for
the incredible words that these individuals want to
share. Encourage them to reach out and verbalize their
experience.
