The Origins of
gaming
- 1967 - Gaming consoles had started from a man named Ralph Baer who was a
German born television engineer. His design was to create a console that would work
with a television. Him and his colleagues had made the schematics to allow two
people to control squares on the television screen from the console they had made.
They had added a light gun which had eventually created 12 game for the first
console “The Brown Box”.
- Before the consoles their were such things as an arcade machine which had
originated from 1952 from a man called A.S Douglas he had created the first
graphical computer game. This was programmed on a plat form which was called a
EDSAC. This was a vacuum tube computer.
S
The origins of
gaming continued.
S To have a working console you would require a game. The game Era
had started with the Vacuum tube computer with a game called Tennis
for two. The game was introduced in 1958 on October the 18th, it was
showed at the annual visitors day at a simple lab. The game had
created the task of creating a console which allowed two people to
play one one console at the same time, this is where controllers were
introduced into the idea. The two controllers allowed two people to
play the game on the platform at the same time with creating their own
dot on the screen. Games didn’t always start with high graphics with 3
dimensions, this is where we needed to start from the beginning with a
2D platform and game. The game Tennis for two was just a start as it
was the origins of games and people realized they needed top branch
off of this game to get further into technology and create a better
gaming experience for people and evolve gaming to a whole new
level.
The leaders of the market.
Microsoft – Xbox -
S The current leaders of the console gaming market would be the very
three holders which had changed the gaming industry what it is today.
S The first holder would be the well known Microsoft which is the most
well known gaming brand out to this date for their famous Xbox. Xbox
had changed the face of gaming in 2001. Xbox was in the dark until
November of that year where its release had rise to the ranks of the
PlayStation 2 and the GameCube. A year after release is when it really
hit the stage as it had introduced an add-on named Xbox live. Xbox
live had online capabilities which had allowed people to play with each
other around the world who also had the add-on. Xbox had milked the
money by charging a fee for the Xbox live add-on. This where they
had gotten the ranking, the profits and took the lead over PlayStation.
The leaders of the market.
Sony – PlayStation 2 -
S The PlayStation 2 had been released in North America
on October the 26th, and that is when the gaming industry
had moved to the next generation of gaming. The Play
station had been able to sell so many consoles that it was
at the peak point of the most sold consoles in the world.
As of 2011 over 144 million Play station 2’s were sold
which was truly outstanding. PlayStation wasn’t the only
ones starting on next generation gaming dream cast
were also on the horizon and they had a one year
advantage over Sony, but Sony pulled it together and
created the masterpiece of the next generation of
gaming.
The leaders of the market.
Nintendo - GameCube
S The GameCube had been released in 2001 on the 18th of
November as they had taken over some of Microsoft's
competition to rival with Sony on the PlayStation, but the
GameCube was created by Nintendo which was named
sega dream cast, so this product was what Sony was
trying to bear, but did it?
S Well the GameCube had only sold 21.7 million over the
course of its release up to 2011. So the market did not
really compare, but profits were still made for Nintendo
and what they had created was still something amazing.
Hand held!
S The Gameboy is the most well known hand held gaming
device up to date as it currently is the most selling hand
held device up to date. It was also created by Nintendo
who are more known for the Gameboy rather than the
current device, the Nintendo Wii. The Game boy had
started as a simple 8 bit device, which you could barely
make out what's on the screen to this date, but when it
was released for the first time in 1989, it was truly a sight
to behold. Now in 2012 we have hand held consoles
which have advanced over the years and now they have
the capabilities o hold around 2gb of flash memory which
is incredible to this date as this was in the new hand held
console the Nintendo 3DS.
