Essay #2: Source Integration Paper Rhetorical Situation: You are a member of an academic community and you want to publish an article in a prestigious newspaper to discuss a specific and compelling issue your academic group faces. You have spoken to the chief editor of the newspaper, and he has asked you to further educate him and his team on what exactly is the issue, and what is the current state of research and discussion on the issue? Assignment Overview Your task is to write a well-developed essay to uncover the issue that exists in your chosen academic community. Use minimum five sources to support your claim. At least three of these sources should be academic, peer-reviewed sources from the University databases. The other two can be credible web sources. Don’t just create an imaginary issue. Do your research and try to understand the actual problem being faced by an academic group of your interest. Once you understand the issue, your task is to explain that issue to your audience. Try to avoid an argumentative tone. Be more informative. Use your sources to educate your audience about what research shows to be the current state of the issue. Put the five sources into conversation. In putting the sources into conversation with each other, the paper might explore five types of relationships: 1. Agreement/Similarity (do most of your sources agree on what is being said about the issue? If so, what is the factor that most sources agree upon? 2. Disagreement/Contrast (Is there any discrepancy of thoughts? If so, what is it that the sources disagree about?) 3. Corroboration (a source provides evidence that supports the argument of another source) 4. Contradiction (a source provides evidence that undermines the argument of another source) 5. Cause/Effect (a source explores the causes or effects of something that is observed or identified in another source) Understanding and locating these relationships in your sources will help you develop your paper. In simple words recognizing and showing these relationships in your paper is what the assignment is asking for. Assignment Outcomes Identify and effectively describe a specific and compelling issue for a particular academic community. Identify academic and non-academic sources and reference them appropriately. You are required to use three peer-reviewed, academic sources and two credible and reputable web sources. Effectively summarize, paraphrase, and quote material from academic and non-academic source material using APA guidelines Accurately identify and analyze relationships between sources Organize an effective review of the literature on a specific issue Compile a proper references page using APA guidelines. Your paper should have title page; but, the essay summary page is not required. What is an academic community? Academic means, related to education. An ac ...

Annotated Bibliography This is a major assignment in the course. The annotated bibliography is a key component of the scaffolded process of research writing. It demonstrates your ability to identify appropriate scholarly sources in different media; it encourages you to reflect on the materials you have read in your research; it hones your ability to summarize arguments by distilling the most important information from a scholarly source; and it directs your readers towards more sources on the topic that may be interesting or helpful for them. The annotated bibliography should be undertaken only after your research questions have been approved and you have conducted a broad initial survey of potential sources. Assignment: Compose an annotated bibliography of FIVE scholarly (peer-reviewed) sources related to your research question. Your sources must include scholarly book chapters and scholarly articles, and it may include scholarly sources on the web. Your bibliography should use APA or MLA citation style, and each of your annotations should be between 150-250 words long. Please see the “Guidelines” below for more information. * Guidelines for the Annotated Bibliography What is an annotated bibliography? · An annotated bibliography is a list of sources (such as scholarly articles and/or books) that illustrates different points of view about a topic. It’s useful to think of an annotated bibliography as a presentation of “the conversation” that scholars are having regarding a specific topic. An annotated bibliography allows you see what research has been done about your topic, and how your research could fit into the larger conversation. The annotated bibliography is very often the point of departure for a larger research project or paper. What is the form of an annotated bibliography?* · In an annotated bibliography, each citation to a source is followed by an annotation—a brief (approximately 150-250 words) description and evaluation of the text. The sources in your annotated bibliography must be listed in alphabetical order. Use MLA or APA citation style when listing your sources. If you are not familiar with these citation styles, please consult a current research handbook or go to the DYC Library’s . · The annotation follows the citation. The annotation is a brief (150-250 words) summary and evaluation of the scholarly source. The annotation usually contains the following components: · A brief but thoughtful summary of the points of the scholarly book chapter, article, or web source that are relevant to your research question. · An evaluation of the source, where you critically assess the reliability or validity of the author’s claims. · A statement about how the author contributes to “the conversation.” *Note: Different professors may have more specific requirements for your annotated bibliography; always be sure to review these requirements and speak with your professor or with a Writing Center tutor if you have any questi.

Program code examples (known also as worked examples) play a crucial role in learning how to program. Instructors use examples extensively to demonstrate the semantics of the programming language being taught and to highlight the fundamental coding patterns. Programming textbooks allocate considerable space to present and explain code examples. To make the process of studying code examples more interactive, CS education researchers developed a range of tools to engage students in the study of code examples. These tools include codecasts (codemotion, codecast, elicasts), interactive example explorers (WebEx, PCEX), and tutoring systems (DeepTutor). An important component in all types of worked examples is code explanations associated with specific code lines or code chunks of an example. The explanations connect examples with general programming knowledge explaining the role and function of code fragments or their behavior. In textbooks, these explanations are usually presented as comments in the code or as explanations on the margins. The example explorer tools allow students to examine these explanations interactively. Tutoring systems, which engage students in explaining the code, use these model explanations to check student responses and provide scaffolding. In all these cases, to make a worked example re-usable beyond its presentation in a lecture, the explanations have to be authored by instructors or domain experts i.e., produced and integrated into a specific system. As the experience of the last 10 years demonstrated, these explanations are hard to obtain. Those already collected are usually “locked” in a specific example-focused system and can’t be reused. The purpose of this working group is to support broader re-used of worked examples augmented with explanations. Our current plan is to develop а standard approach to represent explained examples. This approach will enable an example created for any of the existing systems to be explored in a standard format and imported into any other example-focused system. We plan to follow a successful experience of the PEML working group focused on re-using programming exercises.
