stands for bravery, strength and valor, while the
double headed eagle represents the sovereign state

• Geography: It’s a country in Southeastern Europe. It is
bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the
northeast, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south
and southeast. It has a coast on the Adriatic and Ionian
Seas.

• Tirana became Albania’s capital city in
1920. The city is host to many public
institutions and public and private
universities, and is the center of the
political, economic, and cultural life of
the country.
• Durres is one the oldest cities in Albania,
the country’s main sea port, and the
second largest industrial city after
Tirana.
• Shkodra is one of the major cities in
Albania. It is an ancient city founded in
the 4th century B.C. and it was the
capital of Ancient Illyria.
6. POPULAR FOODS FROM ALBANIA
• One of the finest cuisines in southeastern Europe is
Burek. Burek is a pastry made of thin dough filled with
meat, vegetables and spices.
7. 5 IMPORTANT HISTORICAL EVENTS
•Middle Ages: Albania was under Roman control up to the 7th
century. It was occupied by the Bulgarian Empire in the 9th century,
where it eventually became part of the Serbian empire by the 13th
century.
•Ottoman Age: The Turkish Ottoman empire controlled most of
Albania by 1430. However, a revolt occurred against the Ottoman
sultans in the middle1400s. This revolt was driven by religion. The
Ottomans remained in control through the 19th century.
•Independence: In 1913, Albania was recognized as a country.
From 1913 to 1939, there were a series of short-lived monarchies and
republics. Albania was occupied by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany
in World War 2.
•Communist: Albania became a communist state from 1944 until
1991.
• Today: Communism ended in 1991 and the modern Republic of
Albania was created. In 1999, Albania was affected by the Kosovo
war and had war refugees flood the country.
8. ALBANIAN CLOTHES
Almost every region in Albania has its own traditional dress for
women clothing being particularly colorful and rich in detail. Fabrics
are made by weaving using clothes looms. To this day some
conservative old men and women mainly from the north traditional
clothing in their daily lives. Instead older women from the south
usually wear all black outfits.
