Christmas is celebrated in December and is a time for joy, family, peace and love. Traditions include decorating an advent wreath with candles, Luca Day costumes and games on December 13th, planting wheat for fertility, making look-cakes and Luca chairs, and performing Bethlehem acting games. Foods made are fondant candy, beigli pastries, fish soup, stuffed cabbage, and dishes from the pig slaughter. Christmas is also represented through decorated trees, tables, poetry, and gingerbread decorations.

Christmas is the festival of joy,

remember to the birth of Jesus

4. 13th. December – Luca Day
This is the shortest day and the longest night. There are
a lot of belief of this day.
On this day should not be lent anything, it’s not allowed to borrow, because
they will be witches things.
On this day is not allow ad to whip or sewn, because hens will not give any
eggs in the few time.
The brooms should be hidden, for fear of to fly the witches with.
Luca chairs are to be prepared.
On this day girls predict who will be their husband, and which job will they
have.

5. Advent wreath
Advent is a period in the Christian Culture from the
fourth Sunday before Christmas till Christmas.
6. In the Catholic Liturgy is convenient those
advent wreath, witch has got three purple
and one pink candles. Nowadays there are
many kinds of wreaths.
8. Luca day wheat
On the day of Luca should be
the corn plant to be green at
Christmas. Than it will be given
to the animals to be fertility on
the next year.
We plant wheat in hope of rich harvest.
9. Luca chair
On the 13th of December mans begins to
hew out the chair, because they must to
be ready till Christmas.
According to volk belief, who bring
oneself on this chair, it can see, who
is the witch.
10. Look-cake
People cook cake with coin
inside, who find the only one
cake with the coin, will be
lucky and rich in the next
year.
11. Bethlehem acting games
It is the most famous tradition, which shows the birth
of Jesus Christ. It is a multiplayer dramatic game.
Children shows it in the church and in houses.
