Romeo sees Juliet at a ball hosted by her family, the Capulets, and is instantly smitten by her beauty. When Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, recognizes Romeo as a Montague, the rival family, he wants to attack Romeo but is stopped by Lord Capulet who insists Romeo be treated civilly. Tybalt is furious about Romeo and Juliet's meeting, believing their new love will soon turn bitter, while Juliet allows Romeo to kiss her and says she would rather die than marry another if Romeo is already married.
