Roles:
Illustrator
Your
job… is
to
provide
an
illustration
for
the
section
of
the
book
your
group
is
reading.
You
can
do
this
in
one
of
two
ways.
First,
you
can
draw
a
specific
moment
from
the
story.
This
is
a
“snapshot”
of
a
funny,
scary,
emotional,
or
interesting
point
in
the
selection.
Secondly,
you
can
choose
to
do
what
is
called
“Travel
Tracer”.
This
is
done
by
drawing
many
smaller
pictures
that
show
the
different
settings
of
the
selection
you
read
(kind
of
like
a
comic
strip).
Travel
Tracer
focuses
each
picture
on
the
settings
throughout
the
section
and
shows
how
the
setting
influenced
or
changed
the
story.
Either
way,
make
sure
you
draw
in
detail
and
color
all
your
work.
Make
sure
you:
1) Use
half
a
piece
of
unlined
paper
for
your
illustration
2) Give
your
work
a
title
and/or
captions
3) Write
a
paragraph
of
about
(4
or
more)
sentences
explaining
WHY
you
chose
this
part
to
illustrate.
Think
about:
why
you
liked
it,
what
it
reminded
you
of,
&
why
it’s
important
to
the
story.
4) Paste
the
illustration
in
your
Lit.
Circle
notebook
underneath
your
paragraph.
Paragraph
Example:
I drew a “snapshot” of Gregor falling through the air after getting sucked
down the vent in his laundry room. I liked this part because he started out scared to death of
hitting the ground but after a while his fear went away. It is important because it shows how deep
under the Earth Gregor ends up. It reminded me of falling on a ride at Great America, except that
Gregor was doing it in the dark and I did it in daylight.
When
you
meet….
1) Read
why
you
chose
to
draw
this
section
of
the
story.
2) Proudly
share
your
illustration
with
everyone
in
the
group.
3) Have
the
group
grade
you
on
the
rubric.
