China: A Closer Look -4,000 year old society -early ages ruled by dynasties - series of rulers from same family -first dynasty: Shang 1700BC, then the Zhou -The Qin Dynasty of 221 BC gave China its name; this dynasty united small states under strong central government; ruled by Shi Huangdi (also builder of Great Wall) -other dynasties: Han -in 1644 the Manchu people established the Qing dynasty; in 1911 overthrown, thus ending era of dynasties
