Editor's Notes

  1. -Must be admitted to upper level before you go.-*COSC 364 (Safety) and COSC 381 (internship seminar) are pre-reqs to internship. 381 will be offered in an abbreviated format for students abroad (but would like to do away with this), and 364 can be fulfilled via OSHA 10-hour certificate (can get online)—the problem with doing away with these options is students who want to go the semester they are admitted to upper level. Ideally however they wouldn’t go that semester.-**This is true, but if following flow chart exactly, you will be three hours short of 120 b/c you are only getting 3 hours of internship rather than 6.-9 weeks of class, 1 week spring break (probably align with TAMU spring break) and 9 weeks of internship for Visa Requirements-Requires 15 hours/week of class, in addition to spring break, there should be some time for travel, but difficult to say because we must defer to our -Ideally, much of these contact hours will be with guest lecturers, site visits, Barristers and Solicitors, Insurance Adjusters Etc.
  2. -Exchange Rate was about 1.6 last time we were there, that will significantly effect the cost.Costs basically inclusive of everything except additional meals, and personal travel/sightseeing/souveniers-Air Fare you purchase on your own, so you can travel early or stay late, or fly on miles/points and save money-SAPO fee includes health insurance and emergency funds-Housing = 2 or 3 bedroom apartments with kitchens in Zone 1 or 2 (central London), with roommate from TAMU-Cultural Events = bus tour of city, visits to sights, theatre events-Texas Tomorrow, 529 plans, all apply—benefit of doing a faculty lead study abroad is that it is just like you are at TAMU in terms of finances-Department, College, and University all have study abroad specific scholarships, and more government financial aide available, so fill out study abroad FAFSA.- Of course in states if you get a paid internship, you would being paid for the 10 weeks.
  3. -Bus Tour of London & Walking tour to all major sights-Architectural Walking Tour-Backstage Tour of National Theatre& Night out at Theatre-Tower of London (Castle & Palace)-Day Trip to Wales Gower Peninsula
  4. -Meals, think about what you would spend/day. $50/day = $6000 over 18 weeks, $25/day = $3000 over 18 weeks. Of course, you would have to feed yourself if you were here in the states, so this isn’t really an additional cost, but you will probably spend more in UK. -exchange rate, and if it costs $5 in the US it probably costs 5GBP in London so about $7.50 -on “holiday” want to try new things, might not cook as muchAlso anticipate being in housing with kitchens, so you can save if you cook for yourself/yourselves.-Remember, you will have long weekends to travel in and around Europe.
  5. -If you want total control of your internship, don’t study abroad on this program. -Had a student intern outside of London at a position he found through parents connections. Had to pay expenses for visa provider to visit the site, and his living expenses for the internship. -Continuing to develop our connections and internship sponsors.
  6. -Plan is to make this an annual study abroad-Summer is 5 weeks, does multiple locations, but still Law 1 and Law 2 or one of those and technical elective
  7. -Online visa application does ask about criminal activity, including traffic violations. No one had any problems as a result. Some people didn’t put in info about traffic tickets, and some did and explained them.
