• We must have sorrow or contrition
• Tell God we are sorry
• Show we are sorry through action,
penance
• Resolve to avoid sin again
• God then grants us absolution

• Whole community is involved
• Priest administers the sacrament
• Healing as well as hope and support
• God’s grace and comfort are given to
those ill or suffering

• Unites them to Christ in His suffering
• Prepares them, when necessary, for death
and the hope of live forever with God
