13. Study Design:
Randomized Control Trial (RCT) with Single
blinding.
Randomization:
Simple random sample
Objective:
To evaluate the effect of VAC therapy on
wound management outcomes in acute
traumatic wounds undergoing reconstruction
with STSG.
14. Materials and Methods:
Inclusion criteria: 100 patients of either gender over 14, who
had acute traumatic wounds, measuring ≥ 9 cm2 surface area
Exclusion criteria: Patients who needed flap
coverage as the primary intervention, and those with
diabetes, malignancy, bleeding diathesis.
Methodology:
Randomized by lottery method.
Patients were blinded to treatment modality allocation.
Maximum possible matching pairs by wound size, age and sex.
Initial debridement, C/S of wound. !0 days pre-treatment
All patients were treated with STSG. The outcome measures------
30. VAC therapy should be employed in the pre-treatment
of wounds planned to be reconstructed with STSG,
since it has marked advantages in the wound bed
preparation compared with the traditional normal
saline gauze dressings.
