 An anecdotal record is short objective description
summary of any event or incident writing down after the
event has taken.
 They are brief , objective and focused on specific
outcomes
Anecdotal Record( Based on specific observation)
Anecdote (Short Summary)
 It is used to documents unique behaviors and skills of
children.
 They are brief objective and focused on specific
outcomes.
 Informal device used by teacher to record the
behavior of students as observed by him from time to
time.
 A students’ verbal comments and actions in various
natural situation reveal certain clue to:
 Attitudes
 Interests
 Appreciation
 Habits
 Social Adjustments Patterns
These are types of behavior which we should focus
when keeping anecdotal records.
 It provides information regarding students
development over a period of time.
 The teacher able to understand his/her child
behavior ,personality pattern ,values and attitude in
realistic manner.
 Anecdotal record are important to include in
portfolio.
 The purpose of a classroom anecdotal record is to
learn some thing specific about child behaviors.
 Teacher maintain record of a child’s progress day- to
-day basis.
 Simple reports of behaviors
 Result of direct observation
 Accurate and specific
 Given context of child’s behavior
 Learning outcomes and aspects of development can be
assessed by:
 Observing students(Assessing interactions with other
students)
 Asking their peers about them( Assessing Social
relationship)
 Question them directly (Assessing Expressed interests.

 Time : 1 PM
 Place : Play Ground
 Situation : Game Period
 Behavior of the student : One of the student got excited and
started misbehaving with other students. He argued with others
and hit on students with stick.
 Other reaction : The body language of the student was
aggressive and he was very rude during the game period. He was
shouting on others and not listening to others voice.
 Suggestions:
 All the suggestions and instructions given to the student will
depends on his behavior
 Teacher must focus on him and he/she has to analyze students
problem.
 A counseling is needed for that student by teacher and
counseling process, teacher has explain the good things and
bad things for student.
 Continuous observation needed and the teacher has to increase
and decrease the counseling procedure according to responses
from student.
 Social Adjustment
 Reporting
 Outcomes
 Aspect of Personal and social development
 Depicts ( Describe) actual behaviors in natural situations.
 Facilitate gathering evidence on events.
 Can be used with very young and with low
communication skills students.
 It can be used for formative feedback.
 They can done without separating self from ongoing
classroom activities.
 Quality of record depends on the memory of the persons doing the
observing.
 May miss out on recording specific type of behavior.
 Limited one or two child at a time.
 The amounts of time required.
If teacher written down after few days of events he may not be accurate.
 The difficult being objective.
 Difficulty in obtaining an adequate sample behaviors
 All the teacher must record the anecdotal thee
behavior of the student. Good anecdotal record gives
the date , time, place and the actions occurred.

Anecdotal record in education

  • 2.  An anecdotal record is short objective description summary of any event or incident writing down after the event has taken.  They are brief , objective and focused on specific outcomes Anecdotal Record( Based on specific observation) Anecdote (Short Summary)
  • 3.  It is used to documents unique behaviors and skills of children.  They are brief objective and focused on specific outcomes.  Informal device used by teacher to record the behavior of students as observed by him from time to time.
  • 4.  A students’ verbal comments and actions in various natural situation reveal certain clue to:  Attitudes  Interests  Appreciation  Habits  Social Adjustments Patterns These are types of behavior which we should focus when keeping anecdotal records.
  • 5.  It provides information regarding students development over a period of time.  The teacher able to understand his/her child behavior ,personality pattern ,values and attitude in realistic manner.  Anecdotal record are important to include in portfolio.
  • 6.  The purpose of a classroom anecdotal record is to learn some thing specific about child behaviors.  Teacher maintain record of a child’s progress day- to -day basis.
  • 7.  Simple reports of behaviors  Result of direct observation  Accurate and specific  Given context of child’s behavior
  • 8.  Learning outcomes and aspects of development can be assessed by:  Observing students(Assessing interactions with other students)  Asking their peers about them( Assessing Social relationship)  Question them directly (Assessing Expressed interests.
  • 9.  Name: ABC  Date : 7 June 2020  Time : 1 PM  Place : Play Ground  Situation : Game Period  Behavior of the student : One of the student got excited and started misbehaving with other students. He argued with others and hit on students with stick.  Other reaction : The body language of the student was aggressive and he was very rude during the game period. He was shouting on others and not listening to others voice.
  • 10.  Suggestions:  All the suggestions and instructions given to the student will depends on his behavior  Teacher must focus on him and he/she has to analyze students problem.  A counseling is needed for that student by teacher and counseling process, teacher has explain the good things and bad things for student.  Continuous observation needed and the teacher has to increase and decrease the counseling procedure according to responses from student.
  • 11.  Social Adjustment  Reporting  Outcomes  Aspect of Personal and social development
  • 12.  Depicts ( Describe) actual behaviors in natural situations.  Facilitate gathering evidence on events.  Can be used with very young and with low communication skills students.  It can be used for formative feedback.  They can done without separating self from ongoing classroom activities.
  • 13.  Quality of record depends on the memory of the persons doing the observing.  May miss out on recording specific type of behavior.  Limited one or two child at a time.  The amounts of time required. If teacher written down after few days of events he may not be accurate.  The difficult being objective.  Difficulty in obtaining an adequate sample behaviors
  • 14.  All the teacher must record the anecdotal thee behavior of the student. Good anecdotal record gives the date , time, place and the actions occurred.
