PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The ECU monitor is a device designed to monitor the sensors and operation of the vehicle
engine management system and assist the driver with performance information and useful
diagnostic information when a fault occurs.
In addition to these functions, several features are included such as water injection control
for enhanced vehicle performance.
The monitor reads its information directly from the vehicle ECU via a bi-directional serial
communications link and updates the display data approximately five times every second. The
user is able to create screens with the data that they wish to display depending on personal
preferences. The unit also records peak data such as RPM etc.
In addition, the user can set their own alarm limits which when are exceeded, can turn on an
external warning lamp.
Information is displayed on a 2 line by 24-character display and is controlled by 4 buttons.
The unit does not interfere with the operation of the vehicle in any way (Except ECU
reset/Fault code reset functions).



ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
After the unit has been installed, the communications cable must be attached to the vehicle.
This must be connected only with the vehicle ignition power off and after a period of one
minute has elapsed. This is due to the fact that the engine management electronics remain
powered for a short while after the ignition has been turned off on some vehicle model types.
The OBD communications connector is located directly below the steering column, recessed
into the lower dash panel. This is the same on left and right hand drive vehicles.
Simply locate the connector and plug in the communications cable taking care that the cable
is out of the way of the pedals.

                                  The connector only fits one way round. When the unit is
                                  connected correctly, on some vehicle models the unit will
                                  power up for a short while and then turns off
                                  automatically. For connection of additional external
                                  equipment/features, please refer to
                                  http://www.psi3.co.uk/products.html#. EcuTeK do not
                                  supply these additional sensors. You can purchase these
                                  directly from Psi3.

Do NOT make any connection to terminals on the rear of the unit unless otherwise instructed
as this may cause damage to the unit and/or car.

                                  If you feel that the OBD connector is obstructive or could
                                  be damaged when entering or exiting the vehicle then
                                  remove the vehicle’s “male” OBD socket from the lower
                                  section of the dashboard and make the connection under
                                  the dashboard out of the way.
                                  Removing the vehicle’s “male” OBD socket can be difficult.
                                  Looking from the front into the socket, the two locking
                                  tabs are located at each side and can be pushed back to
                                  release the socket from the lower Dash Board panel.
UNIT START UP
When the vehicle ignition is turned on, the unit will power up (may take a few seconds to
react). These first screens show the unit’s serial number and software version then a custom
message which can be set by the user will be displayed.
Should the unit fail to communicate with the ECU, the unit will display GOODBYE and turn
itself off.
If this happens after several attempts, please email sales@ecutek.com with details of your
ECU number.
Please ensure you have read and understood the POWER OFF and STANDBY MODE as
described below before contacting your supplier.

POWER OFF and STANDBY MODE ISSUES
The power for the unit is supplied from the vehicle normally via the 16-pin connector. Some
model year vehicles have permanent power to the OBD socket and some are powered only
when the ignition switch is on.
The unit has a time of day clock, which is maintained by this power. The clock will forget its
time settings if the power is removed. To get over this, a separate power supply for the unit
should be connected to the where the RED wire enters the connector of the back of the
monitor. (After removing and insulating the original wire). This new supply MUST be fused
with a 1-amp fuse.




On some cars the ECU remains powered for up to 2 minutes after the ignition has been
turned off (usually on vehicles where the power is permanently on). This is a problem, as
should the monitor unit continue to communicate with the ECU, the ECU would NOT switch
off due to the way the software in the ECU is written. This is beyond our control so the
following solution is used. Once the unit has detected the ignition switch is off, the unit will
go into power off mode and display the GOODBYE message. The unit will now wait 2 minutes
before checking the ECU for the ignition switch has been turned back on. This time allows the
ECU to fall asleep naturally. This means that if the ignition is switched off then switch on
before the two minutes has expired; the unit will NOT automatically turn back on until the
two minutes is up. The unit may be switched on at any time by pressing any button on the
panel if this situation should arise.
OPERATING MODES
There are 3 operating modes as listed below...


NORMAL DISPLAY MODE

This mode is entered automatically when the unit first starts up. The screen that was last
displayed will be restored upon power up provided this has been displayed for at least 5
seconds. Use the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to scroll to the desired display.
The title of the selected page will be shown for a short while before the actual page will be
displayed.
These pages are described below:

DATA PAGE 1 - DISPLAYS UPTO 4 VALUES DECIDED UPON BY THE USER
(SEE DISPLAY EDIT MODE SECTION B MODE on how to change these)
Each data item display consists of an abbreviated description, the actual data and the units of
the data.

Example: BP 0.85 BAR (Boost Pressure 0.85 Bar)

Here is a list of selectable items. Not all are available on all cars.
" NO DATA" will be shown if used on such cars.

ID   Injector duration MILLISECONDS

NOTE:
Not all parameters are available on all ECU’s.
Different ECU versions dictate which parameters are available.

Exhaust gas temperature if not available, may display a value that NEVER changes. This is an
ECU problem not a problem with the Data Monitor!




DATA PAGE 2 – 7 Can be configured to the user preference.

PEAK BOOST
This page shows on the top line the peak boost pressure that has been achieved.
The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation
of the current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off.
PEAK COOLANT
This page shows on the top line the peak coolant temperature that has been achieved.
The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the
current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off.

PEAK RPM
This page shows on the top line the peak engine speed that has been achieved.
The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the
current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off.
PEAK SPEED
This page shows on the top line the peak road speed that has been achieved.
The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the
current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off.



DISPLAY EDIT MODE

This mode is entered from the normal display mode only if a data page is being displayed and
then the EXIT button is pressed and held in for more than 2 seconds.
On entry to this mode, release the EXIT button and a flashing arrow symbol will point to the
first data item on the first line of the display. During this mode, the display items will continue
to update from the car in the normal way but you cannot select a new page to display. Press
EXIT once more if you wish to return to the normal display mode.
Use the arrow keys to select 1 of the 4 currently displayed data items you wish to change. On
the selected item, press enter to call up a selection menu of items as described in the section
DATA PAGE 1.
Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list of items and when the desired item is found
press ENTER to save that item into the previously selected position. The unit will now
automatically return to the normal display mode.

Please note that not all items are available on all cars. If any item is not available, "NO DATA"
will be displayed in place of the data.
SET UP MENU

This mode is entered from the normal display mode by pressing the ENTER key.
When this mode is entered, a flashing arrow symbol will be showing and a list of options can
be selected by using the up and down arrow keys. Press ENTER to start the selected function
or press EXIT to return to the normal display mode. Once the desired function has
completed, the normal display mode will be returned to automatically. Some features are only
available on later versions of software.

RESET PEAK VALUES
Allows peak values to be reset to the current values read from the ECU.
WATER INJECTION SET
Allows the control boost pressure of the water injection output to be adjusted.
Use UP/DOWN arrow keys to change value and then press EXIT to save new value.
SHIFT LIGHT SET UP
Allows the shift light activation point control output to be adjusted.
Use UP/DOWN arrow keys to change value and then press EXIT to save new value.
SHOW PENDING ALARMS
Allows previously accepted alarms that are still current to be re-displayed.
(Please refer to ALARMS section)
ADJUST ALARM SETTINGS
Allows all user alarm set points to be adjusted. Use ENTER key to select the desired
item. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to adjust the value then press EXIT when correct
value is shown. (Please refer to ALARMS section)
RESTORE DISPLAY ITEMS
This allows the factory settings for the display items to be restored for all data
pages 1 to 4.
DISPLAY CONTRAST
This allows the display contrast to be adjusted. This may be required for extreme cold
or hot ambient temperatures. Use the arrow keys to adjust the desired contrast then press
EXIT to save new setting.
SET CLOCK TIME
This allows the clock time to be set.
Press the ENTER button to select either minutes or hours then use the arrow buttons to
adjust
the value. When the correct time is displayed, press EXIT to set the clock.
USER MESSAGE SET UP
This function allows the changing of the message that is displayed when the unit is powered
up.
Typically the drivers name and registration number are entered here but you are free to enter
what you please (up to 24 characters) Use the ENTER key to select the character to change
then use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to change the character (space, 0 to 9 and A to Z only).
Press EXIT to save the new message.
USER OPTIONS
3 options are available for the user to customise the monitor operation.
Press ENTER button to select the following options then use the arrow buttons to change the
 option. When complete, press the EXIT button to save and exit.
ROAD SPEED TYPE:            MPH display as MPH (ECU internal KMH)
                            KMH display as KMH
                            MPH +C display as MPH (no internal conversion)
                            KPH +C display as KPH (no internal conversion)

BOOST DISPLAY:              BAR (display boost as BAR)
                            PSI (display boost as PSI)

TEMPERATURE                 Degrees C (display temperatures as Deg Centigrade)
DISPLAY:                    Degrees F (display temperatures as Deg Fahrenheit)

MAP INPUT:                  ECU (Gets boost pressure from ECU if available)
                            EXTERNAL (Gets boost pressure from external sensor)




READ FAULT CODES

This function reads current and historic fault codes from the ECU. When first selected, the
current fault codes are read out and displayed (if any). Press EXIT to return to normal display
mode or press ENTER to read out the historic fault codes. Only the first 4 found fault codes
found will be displayed. Please refer to the FAULT CODES section for the meaning of the
numbers.

RESET ECU COMMAND

This function allows the fault codes in the ECU to be cleared (if cause has been repaired). On
some vehicles this also clears out the Fuel Lambda Learning tables and may make the cars
low speed drive stability and idle speed erratic for the first few miles of driving. Contrary to
popular belief, ECU reset does not improve the engines overall performance. The only
exception to this is when clearing faults after repairs when the ECU may have reduced
performance to protect the engine from damage.

FORCE POWER OFF

This function forces the unit to switch off immediately. The unit will not power up again until
any of the buttons are pressed.
NOTES:
Once turned off, the unit will ignore all key presses for 10 seconds.
The unit will NOT automatically turn back on. Press any key to power up again.
EcuTeK MAP SWITCH / USER TUNE FEATURES
MAP SWITCH CONTROL
If your ECU has been reprogrammed with an EcuTeK Map Switch program then by pressing
the DOWN and EXIT buttons will enter the USER TUNING CONTROL mode. The BOOST MAP
setting will now be displayed. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to swap from Boost Map A to
Boost Map B or visa versa. Then press ENTER to swap to the ENGINE REV LIMIT mode, again
using UP and DOWN buttons will swap between the NORMAL REV LIMIT and CUSTOM REV
LIMIT. Press EXIT to go back to DATA PAGES.



USER TUNE DATA
If your ECU has been reprogrammed with an EcuTeK User Tune program then this function
will allow overall trim of certain parameters. Depending on the configuration when
programmed by your EcuTeK tuner, some or all of the following parameters will be available:

Overall Ignition Adjustment in Degrees.

Ignition Learning Adjustment in %.

Open Loop Fuelling Adjustment in %.

Boost Pressure Adjustment in Bar.

Wastegate Duty Cycle Adjustment in%

Variable Valve Timing (VVT) in Degrees.

Idle Speed Adjustment (with or without Air Con selected) in RPM.

Rev Limit Adjustment from the standard Rev Limit in RPM

Manual override of Wastegate Duty and Target Boost pressure tables A and B.

about Map Switch / User Tune.

Some or all of the above parameters may not be available for adjustment. This is configured
when your ECU is reprogrammed by your EcuTeK tuner.


If your ECU has not programmed for Map Switch / User Tune functions then no adjustments
will be available.

If your ECU has been programmed with these features then select the User Tune function by
the ENTER and DOWN buttons to USER TUNING DATA and press ENTER.
The Unit will first scroll a warning message stating that you are entering USER TUNE mode
and that caution must be exercised otherwise damage may occur to your engine.

If you have no experience, understanding or knowledge of engine tuning please DO NOT
modify any of the USER TUNE parameters.
Please consult your EcuTeK Tuner for further advise on making USER TUNE Adjustments on
your particular vehicle.
EcuTek CANNOT be held responsible for any engine damage that may occur whilst adjusting
                            the USER TUNE parameters.




Use the ENTER button to scroll through the adjustable parameters.

Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to adjust each parameter by the required amount.

Pressing EXIT at any time will save the adjustments and take you back to DATA PAGES.


NOTES:
If the ECU Reset function is carried out or the vehicles battery is disconnected then all User
Tune Adjustments will be erased.




USER TUNE CONTROL

Select ENTER and use the DOWN button to find the USER TUNE CONTROL function and
select ENTER.
Now BOOST MAP is displayed. Use UP and DOWN buttons to swap from BOOST MAP A to
BOOST MAP B.
Press ENTER to change to ENGINE REV LIMITER use UP and DOWN buttons to swap
between NORMAL REV LIMIT and CUSTOM REV LIMIT.


NOTES:

CUSTOM REV LIMIT can be set in USER TUNING DATA and ENGINE REV LIMITER.
USER TUNE CONTROL can also be accessed by pressing the DOWN and EXIT buttons
together when in the DATA DISPLAY pages.



WATER INJECTION CONTROL

The water injection output is activated when the boost pressure is greater or equal to the
user setting. This is typically set just below normal running boost to provide additional
intercooling and performance with minimal water consumption. Connection to this output will
require an external relay. Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk for further information.


SHIFT LIGHT A ND ALARM OUTPUT

The shift light and alarm share the same output. The output will light continuously when the
engine speed is above or equal to the user setting. When a user alarm is detected, the output
will flash at a fast rate.
During an active alarm, the shift light will not function. Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk for
further information.
ALARMS OPERATION

Whilst the unit is powered, the unit continuously checks various inputs against user settings
to check for a possible engine problem. When an alarm is detected, the alarm/shift light
output will flash fast and a message will also flash on the display warning of the problem. To
accept the alarm, press the EXIT button. Should the alarm still be active after accepting it,
the unit will flash up and alarm warning message every few seconds as a reminder. The
alarm output is only active for alarms that have not been accepted. The alarm will be re-
displayed if the alarm condition is removed and then returns.
Alarms available are shown below

LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE VOLTAGE <= USER SETTING
HIGH BATTERY VOLTAGE VOLTAGE >= USER SETTING
BOOST PRESSURE HIGH BOOST IS >= USER SETTING
COOLANT TEMPERATURE HIGH TEMPERATURE >= USER SETTING
OIL TEMPERATURE HIGH TEMPERATURE >= USER SETTING
OIL PRESSURE LOW PRESSURE < USER SETTING



FAULT CODES
Depending on vehicle/ECU type, there are different types of fault codes for vehicles.
Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk/downloads/faultcodes.pdf for listings of these codes.

IMPORTANT NOTES
These codes and cause are determined by the manufacturer of the ECU and not the monitor
unit.
Just because a component has been declared at fault, the true cause may be elsewhere.
E.G. wiring/mechanical.
Engine faults can exist without fault codes being generated.
Fault codes may not be generated by the ECU immediately upon the existence of a detectable
fault.
Fault finding should only be carried out by a competent engineer.
Fault finding on modern engines requires intimate knowledge of the engine and the correct
workshop information.
Use of the fault code information is at the users own risk.
We are pleased to help with any technical queries on our products but cannot offer tuning or
repair advice or the exact meaning of the fault code content.
Warranty
EcuTeK offer a one year, return to base warranty on all aspects of this unit. Should it fail in
any way please e-mail sales@ecutek.com with an explanation of the fault. If we require the
unit to be returned then please ship by tracked shipper and we will investigate, repair or
replace at our discretion.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The ECU monitor is a device designed to monitor the sensors and operation of the vehicle engine management system and assist the driver with performance information and useful diagnostic information when a fault occurs. In addition to these functions, several features are included such as water injection control for enhanced vehicle performance. The monitor reads its information directly from the vehicle ECU via a bi-directional serial communications link and updates the display data approximately five times every second. The user is able to create screens with the data that they wish to display depending on personal preferences. The unit also records peak data such as RPM etc. In addition, the user can set their own alarm limits which when are exceeded, can turn on an external warning lamp. Information is displayed on a 2 line by 24-character display and is controlled by 4 buttons. The unit does not interfere with the operation of the vehicle in any way (Except ECU reset/Fault code reset functions). ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION After the unit has been installed, the communications cable must be attached to the vehicle. This must be connected only with the vehicle ignition power off and after a period of one minute has elapsed. This is due to the fact that the engine management electronics remain powered for a short while after the ignition has been turned off on some vehicle model types. The OBD communications connector is located directly below the steering column, recessed into the lower dash panel. This is the same on left and right hand drive vehicles. Simply locate the connector and plug in the communications cable taking care that the cable is out of the way of the pedals. The connector only fits one way round. When the unit is connected correctly, on some vehicle models the unit will power up for a short while and then turns off automatically. For connection of additional external equipment/features, please refer to http://www.psi3.co.uk/products.html#. EcuTeK do not supply these additional sensors. You can purchase these directly from Psi3. Do NOT make any connection to terminals on the rear of the unit unless otherwise instructed as this may cause damage to the unit and/or car. If you feel that the OBD connector is obstructive or could be damaged when entering or exiting the vehicle then remove the vehicle’s “male” OBD socket from the lower section of the dashboard and make the connection under the dashboard out of the way. Removing the vehicle’s “male” OBD socket can be difficult. Looking from the front into the socket, the two locking tabs are located at each side and can be pushed back to release the socket from the lower Dash Board panel.
  • 3. UNIT START UP When the vehicle ignition is turned on, the unit will power up (may take a few seconds to react). These first screens show the unit’s serial number and software version then a custom message which can be set by the user will be displayed. Should the unit fail to communicate with the ECU, the unit will display GOODBYE and turn itself off. If this happens after several attempts, please email sales@ecutek.com with details of your ECU number. Please ensure you have read and understood the POWER OFF and STANDBY MODE as described below before contacting your supplier. POWER OFF and STANDBY MODE ISSUES The power for the unit is supplied from the vehicle normally via the 16-pin connector. Some model year vehicles have permanent power to the OBD socket and some are powered only when the ignition switch is on. The unit has a time of day clock, which is maintained by this power. The clock will forget its time settings if the power is removed. To get over this, a separate power supply for the unit should be connected to the where the RED wire enters the connector of the back of the monitor. (After removing and insulating the original wire). This new supply MUST be fused with a 1-amp fuse. On some cars the ECU remains powered for up to 2 minutes after the ignition has been turned off (usually on vehicles where the power is permanently on). This is a problem, as should the monitor unit continue to communicate with the ECU, the ECU would NOT switch off due to the way the software in the ECU is written. This is beyond our control so the following solution is used. Once the unit has detected the ignition switch is off, the unit will go into power off mode and display the GOODBYE message. The unit will now wait 2 minutes before checking the ECU for the ignition switch has been turned back on. This time allows the ECU to fall asleep naturally. This means that if the ignition is switched off then switch on before the two minutes has expired; the unit will NOT automatically turn back on until the two minutes is up. The unit may be switched on at any time by pressing any button on the panel if this situation should arise.
  • 4. OPERATING MODES There are 3 operating modes as listed below... NORMAL DISPLAY MODE This mode is entered automatically when the unit first starts up. The screen that was last displayed will be restored upon power up provided this has been displayed for at least 5 seconds. Use the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to scroll to the desired display. The title of the selected page will be shown for a short while before the actual page will be displayed. These pages are described below: DATA PAGE 1 - DISPLAYS UPTO 4 VALUES DECIDED UPON BY THE USER (SEE DISPLAY EDIT MODE SECTION B MODE on how to change these) Each data item display consists of an abbreviated description, the actual data and the units of the data. Example: BP 0.85 BAR (Boost Pressure 0.85 Bar) Here is a list of selectable items. Not all are available on all cars. " NO DATA" will be shown if used on such cars. -- No display (blank area) BP Boost pressure BAR IN Intake air temperature DEGREES C (this is not charge temperature) IG Ignition Advance DEGREES BTDC CT Coolant temperature DEGREES C ES Engine speed RPM BV Battery VOLTS TH Throttle position % (some cars have limited range E.G. 5 to 85 %) RS Road speed MPH or KMH (user selectable) AF Air flow meter GRAMMES PER SECOND LA Lambda sensor 1 LAMBDA RATIO KC Knock correction DEGREES (ignition offset) ID Injector duration MILLISECONDS TC Time of day clock EX Exhaust gas temperature DEGREES C OT Oil temperature (Available with software version 8 onwards) -Requires external addition sensors to be fitted.   • 5. NOTE: Not all parameters are available on all ECU’s. Different ECU versions dictate which parameters are available. Exhaust gas temperature if not available, may display a value that NEVER changes. This is an ECU problem not a problem with the Data Monitor! DATA PAGE 2 – 7 Can be configured to the user preference. PEAK BOOST This page shows on the top line the peak boost pressure that has been achieved. The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off. PEAK COOLANT This page shows on the top line the peak coolant temperature that has been achieved. The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off. PEAK RPM This page shows on the top line the peak engine speed that has been achieved. The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off. PEAK SPEED This page shows on the top line the peak road speed that has been achieved. The current value is shown on the second line along with a graphical representation of the current value. The peak value is retained even if the power is turned off. DISPLAY EDIT MODE This mode is entered from the normal display mode only if a data page is being displayed and then the EXIT button is pressed and held in for more than 2 seconds. On entry to this mode, release the EXIT button and a flashing arrow symbol will point to the first data item on the first line of the display. During this mode, the display items will continue to update from the car in the normal way but you cannot select a new page to display. Press EXIT once more if you wish to return to the normal display mode. Use the arrow keys to select 1 of the 4 currently displayed data items you wish to change. On the selected item, press enter to call up a selection menu of items as described in the section DATA PAGE 1. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list of items and when the desired item is found press ENTER to save that item into the previously selected position. The unit will now automatically return to the normal display mode. Please note that not all items are available on all cars. If any item is not available, "NO DATA" will be displayed in place of the data.
  • 6. SET UP MENU This mode is entered from the normal display mode by pressing the ENTER key. When this mode is entered, a flashing arrow symbol will be showing and a list of options can be selected by using the up and down arrow keys. Press ENTER to start the selected function or press EXIT to return to the normal display mode. Once the desired function has completed, the normal display mode will be returned to automatically. Some features are only available on later versions of software. Some features are only available on later versions of software. RESET PEAK VALUES Allows peak values to be reset to the current values read from the ECU. WATER INJECTION SET Allows the control boost pressure of the water injection output to be adjusted. Use UP/DOWN arrow keys to change value and then press EXIT to save new value. SHIFT LIGHT SET UP Allows the shift light activation point control output to be adjusted. Use UP/DOWN arrow keys to change value and then press EXIT to save new value. SHOW PENDING ALARMS Allows previously accepted alarms that are still current to be re-displayed. (Please refer to ALARMS section) ADJUST ALARM SETTINGS Allows all user alarm set points to be adjusted. Use ENTER key to select the desired item. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to adjust the value then press EXIT when correct value is shown. (Please refer to ALARMS section) RESTORE DISPLAY ITEMS This allows the factory settings for the display items to be restored for all data pages 1 to 4. DISPLAY CONTRAST This allows the display contrast to be adjusted. This may be required for extreme cold or hot ambient temperatures. Use the arrow keys to adjust the desired contrast then press EXIT to save new setting. SET CLOCK TIME This allows the clock time to be set. Press the ENTER button to select either minutes or hours then use the arrow buttons to adjust the value. When the correct time is displayed, press EXIT to set the clock. USER MESSAGE SET UP This function allows the changing of the message that is displayed when the unit is powered up. Typically the drivers name and registration number are entered here but you are free to enter what you please (up to 24 characters) Use the ENTER key to select the character to change then use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to change the character (space, 0 to 9 and A to Z only). Press EXIT to save the new message. USER OPTIONS 3 options are available for the user to customise the monitor operation. Press ENTER button to select the following options then use the arrow buttons to change the option. When complete, press the EXIT button to save and exit.

ROAD SPEED TYPE: MPH display as MPH (ECU internal KMH) KMH display as KMH MPH +C display as MPH (no internal conversion) KPH +C display as KPH (no internal conversion) BOOST DISPLAY: BAR (display boost as BAR) PSI (display boost as PSI) TEMPERATURE Degrees C (display temperatures as Deg Centigrade) DISPLAY: Degrees F (display temperatures as Deg Fahrenheit) MAP INPUT: ECU (Gets boost pressure from ECU if available) EXTERNAL (Gets boost pressure from external sensor) READ FAULT CODES This function reads current and historic fault codes from the ECU. When first selected, the current fault codes are read out and displayed (if any). Press EXIT to return to normal display mode or press ENTER to read out the historic fault codes. Only the first 4 found fault codes found will be displayed. Please refer to the FAULT CODES section for the meaning of the numbers. RESET ECU COMMAND This function allows the fault codes in the ECU to be cleared (if cause has been repaired). On some vehicles this also clears out the Fuel Lambda Learning tables and may make the cars low speed drive stability and idle speed erratic for the first few miles of driving. Contrary to popular belief, ECU reset does not improve the engines overall performance. The only exception to this is when clearing faults after repairs when the ECU may have reduced performance to protect the engine from damage. FORCE POWER OFF This function forces the unit to switch off immediately. The unit will not power up again until any of the buttons are pressed. NOTES: Once turned off, the unit will ignore all key presses for 10 seconds. The unit will NOT automatically turn back on. Press any key to power up again.

EcuTeK MAP SWITCH / USER TUNE FEATURES MAP SWITCH CONTROL If your ECU has been reprogrammed with an EcuTeK Map Switch program then by pressing the DOWN and EXIT buttons will enter the USER TUNING CONTROL mode. The BOOST MAP setting will now be displayed. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to swap from Boost Map A to Boost Map B or visa versa. Then press ENTER to swap to the ENGINE REV LIMIT mode, again using UP and DOWN buttons will swap between the NORMAL REV LIMIT and CUSTOM REV LIMIT. Press EXIT to go back to DATA PAGES. USER TUNE DATA If your ECU has been reprogrammed with an EcuTeK User Tune program then this function will allow overall trim of certain parameters. Depending on the configuration when programmed by your EcuTeK tuner, some or all of the following parameters will be available: Overall Ignition Adjustment in Degrees. Ignition Learning Adjustment in %. Open Loop Fuelling Adjustment in %. Boost Pressure Adjustment in Bar. Wastegate Duty Cycle Adjustment in% Variable Valve Timing (VVT) in Degrees. Idle Speed Adjustment (with or without Air Con selected) in RPM. Rev Limit Adjustment from the standard Rev Limit in RPM Manual override of Wastegate Duty and Target Boost pressure tables A and B. Please see our website http://www.ecutek.com/products/usertune/ for further information about Map Switch / User Tune. Some or all of the above parameters may not be available for adjustment. This is configured when your ECU is reprogrammed by your EcuTeK tuner. If your ECU has not programmed for Map Switch / User Tune functions then no adjustments will be available. If your ECU has been programmed with these features then select the User Tune function by the ENTER and DOWN buttons to USER TUNING DATA and press ENTER. The Unit will first scroll a warning message stating that you are entering USER TUNE mode and that caution must be exercised otherwise damage may occur to your engine. If you have no experience, understanding or knowledge of engine tuning please DO NOT modify any of the USER TUNE parameters. Please consult your EcuTeK Tuner for further advise on making USER TUNE Adjustments on your particular vehicle.
  • 9. EcuTek CANNOT be held responsible for any engine damage that may occur whilst adjusting the USER TUNE parameters. Use the ENTER button to scroll through the adjustable parameters. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to adjust each parameter by the required amount. Pressing EXIT at any time will save the adjustments and take you back to DATA PAGES. NOTES: If the ECU Reset function is carried out or the vehicles battery is disconnected then all User Tune Adjustments will be erased. USER TUNE CONTROL Select ENTER and use the DOWN button to find the USER TUNE CONTROL function and select ENTER. Now BOOST MAP is displayed. Use UP and DOWN buttons to swap from BOOST MAP A to BOOST MAP B. Press ENTER to change to ENGINE REV LIMITER use UP and DOWN buttons to swap between NORMAL REV LIMIT and CUSTOM REV LIMIT. NOTES: CUSTOM REV LIMIT can be set in USER TUNING DATA and ENGINE REV LIMITER. USER TUNE CONTROL can also be accessed by pressing the DOWN and EXIT buttons together when in the DATA DISPLAY pages. WATER INJECTION CONTROL The water injection output is activated when the boost pressure is greater or equal to the user setting. This is typically set just below normal running boost to provide additional intercooling and performance with minimal water consumption. Connection to this output will require an external relay. Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk for further information. SHIFT LIGHT A ND ALARM OUTPUT The shift light and alarm share the same output. The output will light continuously when the engine speed is above or equal to the user setting. When a user alarm is detected, the output will flash at a fast rate. During an active alarm, the shift light will not function. Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk for further information.
  • 10. ALARMS OPERATION Whilst the unit is powered, the unit continuously checks various inputs against user settings to check for a possible engine problem. When an alarm is detected, the alarm/shift light output will flash fast and a message will also flash on the display warning of the problem. To accept the alarm, press the EXIT button. Should the alarm still be active after accepting it, the unit will flash up and alarm warning message every few seconds as a reminder. The alarm output is only active for alarms that have not been accepted. The alarm will be re- displayed if the alarm condition is removed and then returns. Alarms available are shown below LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE VOLTAGE <= USER SETTING HIGH BATTERY VOLTAGE VOLTAGE >= USER SETTING BOOST PRESSURE HIGH BOOST IS >= USER SETTING COOLANT TEMPERATURE HIGH TEMPERATURE >= USER SETTING OIL TEMPERATURE HIGH TEMPERATURE >= USER SETTING OIL PRESSURE LOW PRESSURE < USER SETTING FAULT CODES Depending on vehicle/ECU type, there are different types of fault codes for vehicles. Please refer to www.psi3.co.uk/downloads/faultcodes.pdf for listings of these codes. IMPORTANT NOTES These codes and cause are determined by the manufacturer of the ECU and not the monitor unit. Just because a component has been declared at fault, the true cause may be elsewhere. E.G. wiring/mechanical. Engine faults can exist without fault codes being generated. Fault codes may not be generated by the ECU immediately upon the existence of a detectable fault. Fault finding should only be carried out by a competent engineer. Fault finding on modern engines requires intimate knowledge of the engine and the correct workshop information. Use of the fault code information is at the users own risk.
