Humans of New York is a photo series by Brandon Stanton that began in 2010 with the goal of photographing 10,000 New Yorkers. As he photographed people and collected their stories, he decided to get a story from everyone. The portraits often include background information about the subjects and what they are doing in New York. The strangers range from eccentric to everyday people, and their stories provide an interesting perspective on different types of people in New York.

1. Humans of New York
Humans of New York is a photo
series by Brandon which began in
2010. He planned to photograph
10,000 New Yorkers and put them
on a map but as he began taking
peoples pictures and collecting
quotes and short stories from them.
He then decided he should get a
story from all the strangers he
captures. He is a portrait
photographer where the images
themselves tend to tell a story. The
stories people tell along with the
image often included information
about their background, what they
are doing in New York or anything
they want to share. The strangers
he photographs range from
eccentric New Yorkers to regular
everyday people. I think his work is
interesting because it captures
stories from all kinds of people that
the viewer would not necessarily
expect.

2. Michael Kenna
Michael Kenna was
born in the UK in 1953,
his interest in art led to
him going to The
Banbury School of Art
where he studied
photography. In 1977
he moved to San
Francisco where he
felt inspired by the
amount of art galleries,
which allowed artists to
showcase and sell
their work. Kenna
travels the world taking
landscape
photographs in
destinations such as
Japan, Australia and
Brazil. His photos are
all in black and white.
The images are made
at dawn or in dark hours of the night with high exposure, Kenna says “you can't always see what's otherwise noticeable during the
day, with long exposures you can photograph what the human eye is incapable to seeing”. His images are interesting because on
the scenery in them and how they have been well captured only using shades of black and white. The exposure also makes them
look more vivid, adding to the appeal.

3. Alex
Stoddard
Alex Stoddard is a surrealism photographer from California. He discovered his passion for art at a young age. He creates dark,
narrative portrait images based on fantastical and fragility of the human experience. His images are interesting as they are not too
surreal that they look fake but the look believable and makes the viewer question the image. Most of his photos include himself in
them, making the images more personal making a contrast between reality and surrealism.
